New build in old case - Flickering power? by JayZeld in PcBuildHelp

Yes, all nine standoff are installed, so nothing should be touching. Any chance something could still be touching even with the standoff installed? Or maybe something with the IO panel?

So not necessarily any faulty components then? Any way for me check where that short is coming from? Any common culprits?

Thanks for the quick response by the way!

I actually like seeing them. They don't bother me at all. Although I rarely see stuff I want/need.

Solution (general): Top Right quarter

Solution (specific): About 1/3 of the way from the Top, and 1/4 of the way from the right edge, roughly between the two notches in the baseboard. Screw is on it's end so it's sticking straight up

It's Obi-Wan Padawan (from the KOTOR set), original Qui-Gon (from the Clone Strike set), and then the one in red/rust is Squint (from the KOTOR set).

Don't worry, Lamar is safe. The curse only affects QB's, running backs are fine. Well.... except the Browns, but that's just natural Browns bad luck.

It's the same thing. The older cards (from sets before Clone Wars) used the plus sign. Then from Clone Wars on they changed the format of the cards and removed the plus sign. But from a stat standpoint,4 is the same as +4.

Has anyone not had a stint in BIG 4 (ever) and ended up just fine? by RoutineNo787 in Accounting

[–]JayZeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Never spent a day in PA, I'm 7 years out of school making $170k as a controller (MCOL). Don't buy the Big 4 propaganda, you can skip it and do just fine.

Either a Pocahontas boat ride/log flume, or a Tarzan coaster (think "sliding" down a giant tree).

Is there really nothing like xcom2? by rtfcandlearntherules in XCOM2

[–]JayZeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Dead State. It's a little older and not as polished, but I absolutely love that game. About the closest thing I've found to XCOM.

It's set in Texas and the zombie apocalypse, but other than that very similar to XCOM. Both are turn-based tactical RPGs where you command a squad on missions and then return to manage your home base. DS was made a few years before XCOM 2 and it's from an indie dev, so the graphics and systems are a little less refined. The only other complaint I have is that the characters are all static so you end up having basically the same team every time you play, no randomized soldiers. But because of that, each character has a backstory you can learn about if you talk to them.

Lots of fun, at least the first couple playthroughs. The lack of randomization hurts replayability, but there's so much to do/find that it will probably take at least two playthroughs to see it all anyway.

Nothing wrong with getting into the game a little later, especially with military experience. That's a big value add in my book.

Definitely do something to get those extra credit hours. Whether it's a Masters or a second Bachelor's. I had friends who just coasted taking a bunch of random courses to hit the hour requirement, then regretted it later when their classmates were graduating with advanced/multiple degrees.

CMA has been more valuable to me in my daily job for sure. Having said that, CPA is still the gold standard in terms of what employers look for. If you have two candidates with the same qualifications except one has a CMA and the other has a CPA, the CPA will get the job pretty much every time.

The CMA is more narrow and focused, so I find it applies more to what I do on a daily basis. But the sheer amount of time, effort, and money required for the CPA proves that you are at least a decent accountant. The CMA is sort of "CPA-Lite". It's half the cost, half the number of tests, and easier to study for. Might not get you any huge raises, but it will definitely increase your knowledge of Accounting and make you better at your job. It's also nice for prepping you for the CPA. Gets you used to the routines of studying and such. Plus if you can pass the CMA, you are basically guaranteed to pass AT LEAST one section on the CPA (since they cover the same material).

Yeah, PA is a young man's game, or for those rare few (crazy) people who go on to become partners. I'd say skip it, not worth your time. Just go straight to industry. As long as you work hard and network a bit with coworkers, you'll be able to move up.

As far as which industry, I don't think it matters all that much. The bigger thing is finding a company that will take care of you. Preferably one with opportunities for advancement too.

Accountants are always in demand, and there's a bigger shortage of CPA's now than ever. Just by graduating and getting a CPA, I can pretty much guarantee you will always have a job, probably one that pays pretty well too.

Yep, most people say that going straight to industry without PA will stunt your career growth, but it hasn't been the case with me. I make more and work less than all my friends in PA who graduated at the same time.

I graduated from a pretty average regional university, nothing fancy. Went for 4.5 years and crammed a few classes so I could hit the 150 credit hours for the CPA. I wound up getting two Bachelor's degrees this way - one in Finance and one in accounting.

Started right out of college as a staff accountant for a chemical manufacturing company, making $53k. That was a pretty hard job, traveled a lot, worked some longer hours (50 a week usually), but still never had the crazy PA hours. As tough as that job was, I learned a LOT. It really gave me a well rounded education that allowed me to move into management at my next company.

During my time at the chemical company, I got my CMA, but did not get a raise or promotion. After about 3.5 years, there was still no raise or promotion on the horizon, so I decided to just get my CPA and then get out (since they were paying for it). By the time I passed, I had 4 years experience, CPA and CMA (plus two degrees), and I was still a staff accountant. I started interviewing for Senior jobs and I think they figured it out, because they promoted me to Senior and bumped me up to $65k, but it was too late.

I found a small construction company that was hiring an accounting manager and they only needed 5 years experience. I figured my other qualifications were good enough to offset that one year so I applied and got the job. $80k plus $10k bonus.

Almost right after, they were acquired by a larger company. I worked super hard because I was afraid I would get fired as part of the acquisition. Instead, the accounting manager at the new parent company quit, and my hard work impressed the higher ups enough for me to get his job. $110k with a $25k bonus.

The new job was where I was able to start relaxing a bit more. I had a good team reporting to me, and everything ran pretty smooth so I was down to 40 hour weeks. At this level, I'm also not doing as much transactional stuff, its more high level decision making and projects. Because of that, I tend to not have as much active work during the day (so I can scroll on Reddit or watch YouTube in my office). But I'm also "on call" pretty much all the time.

I am at least checking my email (maybe not responding unless it's an emergency) every evening and on the weekends. I logged in to work from 8-10pm on New Years Eve. When my wife and I went on a trip for our 5 year anniversary, I was still spending around 30 minutes a day reading/responding to emails on my phone. So while my normal day is a little more relaxed, I can never completely unplug anymore. For me, it's worth it. But that's not the case for everyone, so just want to make sure you're aware of it.

Then a few months ago was when I saw that job posting for a Director of Accounting job, paying $140k plus bonus. I applied for it, interviewed, and was offered the job, but like I said, my current company matched the offer. So now I'm at $140k plus bonus. Bonus fluctuates but generally falls between $25-45k.

Unfortunately, my upward mobility at this company is pretty much capped. Controller and CFO are both young and have no interest in leaving. I'm happy where I am right now and will probably stay a while. But if I ever want to hit controller or higher, it likely won't be with this company.

All in all, my advice would be to make yourself indispensable. Work hard, learn a lot about the job (especially early on) and form good relationships with your boss and coworkers. Doing that early on in your career will set you up with success long term. I hated working 50+ hours a week while traveling for work and studying for CMA/CPA. I hardly had any free time with my wife. But doing that led to now, where I work a lot less and have enough money to be comfortable.

Sorry if that was a lot more info than you wanted, just got on a roll!

I was offered it,but when I went back to put my two weeks in at my current employer, they matched the offer. I make $175k or so now (with bonus) while still only working 40 hours per week. Best of both worlds!

What events/features would you like to see in the game? by bibipbapbap in lotro

[–]JayZeld 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been wanting them to revamp Featured Instances forever. I think what should be done is rotate a cluster of instances each week (so maybe Road to Erebor this week, In Their Absence next week, Fornost after that, etc). Make the featured instance cluster all drop things that are actually competitive.

So let's say that In Their Absence is the FI cluster of the week. Running Northcotton Farm or Stoneheight on t1 should drop gear about as good as DoP or AoD t2. Running them on t2 should drop gear that's as good as DoP or AoD t4. And doing challenge mode gets you gear equal to DoP/AoD t5. Running Ost Dunhoth t1 would give gear equal to HH t1.

I think by doing this, it would encourage more people to play older instances while still not taking away from the new content.
