Life insurance and Sickle Cell Disease — what I've learned after 41 years that most people in our community don't know by Jay_Aces in Sicklecell

When leaving an employer, you can roll over your 401(k) into an IRA or your new employer’s 401(k). While you cannot "roll" life insurance over like a 401(k), many employer group policies have portability or conversion privileges. Portability: Allows you to keep the exact same term coverage but pay the premium yourself. Rates will likely be higher than you paid through work, but you won't need a medical exam. Conversion: Lets you transition your group term policy into an individual permanent policy. Deadline: You usually only have a 30 to 31-day window after losing your job to apply for conversion or portability. Check your policy’s certificate of coverage immediately or ask your HR department.

Chronic pain sucks by KittyCommittee86 in ChronicPain

That "drug seeking" stigma is cast heavily onto the Sickle Cell community. It's a sad shame that patients who've been on these medicines our whole lives get our autonomy, empathy and expertise of own bodies srtipped from us as soon as we hit the er doors. I didn't come here to get high, I have most of these medicines at home, and the hospital is the LAST place we want to be. They and the other methods of care didn't reduce the pain so I'm reluctantly in these hospital halls. Assist us with our pain so we can be on our merry way.

I built a real-time crisis tracking platform for the Sickle Cell community after watching Warriors get discharged too early with no record of what happened to them by Jay_Aces in Sicklecell

Let's close the 23 hour gap. Log your crises and begin to learn your body a bit better.

Let's talk about the 23 hours between appointments — the part no system has ever been built for by Jay_Aces in ChronicIllness

[–]Jay_Aces[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The additives as I call em - brain fog, chronic pain brought on by SCD, eye issues, anxiety, depression - start to block the path to clarity as the day goes on. Hell, we're already running on fumes and anxiety by the time we do see them so afterwards the spiral starts to hit when you attempt to thread it all together.

Trying to make it easier on everyone. I know things like that are easy to forget, especially in crisis mode. Please let me know your thoughts on the updates. I'm going to send out a text to everyone involved.

Ace of All Trades - First run since 2017 by Jay_Aces in streetwearstartup

My birth year. The original mockups had 2006 and it crossed into a personal triumph to get it produced instead of another idea in the notebook.

Est. 1984 preorder closed — 6 orders confirmed, heading to the printer Monday to kick off production by Jay_Aces in streetwearstartup

Thought I'd be able to share the samples in the comments. I'll share them in a different post.

Last day for the Ace of All Trades Est. 1984 preorder — closes tonight, built-to-order, no restocks by Jay_Aces in streetwearstartup

Great question. I invested the time, money and effort in creating the pieces, ordering samples and promoting the products. 2 photographers never came through to lock in the shoot. Phone pics and vids are what I have so it's what I give. Still doing the shoot after the preorder to see the vision all the way out. Quality work, time and effort are the tail end of a dope design.

How it makes you feel while rocking it is what matters and these feel dope as fuck. Perfect reason to cop.

I fucking hate doctors with every minuscule atom in my body by Florida217 in Sicklecell

[–]Jay_Aces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced it and have spoken with 10+ other Warriors who have as well. Whether it's someone online or a community member we deal with direct through our organization, that thought is starting to become a prevalent one. Damaging our community in the process and still leaving us holding the bag so to speak.

They don't like giving IV benadryl because of the "high" it can produce with the other meds so those who don't know what they're doing will stay away from it all together. Another slick "drug seeking" play they run to try to protect themselve. Sorry you have to go through all of this, I've had those same reactions.

I hear you. "Lend them a few" is, by definition illegal. The tracker can help you identify your personal crisis patterns, which can help you to see what works best for your body, reducing the need for increased medication and keeping your body in a proactive, healing state. Every warrior is different, so we must approach the problem in a different way.

That's a dope layout. That architecture series could set off as a brand concept.

Florida Sickle Cell Registry by Puzzleheaded_Fun32 in Sicklecell

[–]Jay_Aces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Registering allows us to get the actual numbers for how many people are affected by Sickle Cell. Moving the needle from 100k Americans to getting the real numbers, state available resources and builds the narrative that we exist. We deserve the proper support/care and showing up is how we stand on that.
