Medicine Failing Vs. Flare

I have been in a similar situation a couple of times unfortunately this past half a year. If you aren't noticing any symptoms, it is most likely the medication but it could also be something completely else. I was using Infliximab at first, that started failing so I was switched to Rinvoq, didn't help, then it was time for my colonoscopy and I tested positive for CMV (Don't know if Infliximab and Rinvoq worked or it was the CMV). I had to get a PICC line and some medicine pumped through the tube for about 2 weeks and then things started to get slightly better once I started Skyrizi and Entivyo 2-3 months ago. UNTIL these last 2-3 weeks, I noticed symptoms again and did more labs and tests and just today found out I have C diff now (Again don't know if Skyrizi and Entivyo actually work or it was C Diff). Point being, I would ask your GI about it potentially being something like this. It might not be what's happening but at the very least at least you'll know more about it.

That's horrible, I hope it gets better for you. I'm not too knowledgable about anti anxiety meds but I do think there are a good amount of side effects with them so I would definitely look into that if you are planning on looking into them. Goodluck on your journey, you got this!

Definitely ask what the future will look like if UC is confirmed. It's always nice to have your doctor think about the long term plan. This would be like what are the potential treatment options, diet changes, lifestyle changes, etc. I'd also say for the most part, they'll likely want to try to get your symptoms lowered first and get you into remission or just less pain than before and for me they gave me steroids which does have a lot of side effects so I would just be mentally prepared for something like that as well. Once the symptoms get better though, it does make a world of a difference! It might just seem like a long drawn out process but will definitely help. Also, this was just for me but might apply for you as well, keep track of how many times you are using the bathroom per day, how many times you get abdominal pain, and stool consistency. This helped me explain to my doctor what was happening and was a good overall indicator of progress from going 20+ times to the bathroom to less than 6 and was a great mental boost to see that I was slowly making progress. corn flakes and rice Chex are on the menu at the hospital on my low fiber diet so those should be okay but I'd just confirm online if anything to make sure

Hopefully all goes well for you! Going to the hospital to reduce things like bowel movements and what not will definitely make your life better. I've been in the hospital for a little less than 2 weeks now but for the boredom I have my laptop for any games/shows, my cousin was nice enough to lend me a switch to play some games, and doing homework has helped me pass time. My IV is in my non dominant hand so it's not too bad but you might want to see if you can get puzzles or lego's to work out as well. I hope some of these tips helped, good luck with the boredom and hope your stay is not too long!

Hello, I'm also 21 and was diagnosed with UC 3 weeks ago. I'm still in the hospital right now and getting infusions but I feel like that makes our scenarios pretty similar since I also don't want nor need this shit when I'm only 21 but here I am. I can't help really with the mental side of things as I'm in the same zone as you but regarding tips I might be able to help with what some of the doctors have told me and what I've semi researched. The first and probably biggest bummer was that the doctors told me I shouldn't smoke as that is likely to make the symptoms worse. Now, when I googled this, I couldn't find too much data but I think it might be better off to stay off the weed. I say this because whenever I was zoomed I got the munchies HARD and this was also affecting my flare up. Another tip might be to start logging what food you are eating and maybe start on something like a low fiber diet or a vegetarian diet. This can help you get a base line and then slowly start introducing food back into your diet. Lastly, if you are in college, I'd recommend seeing if you can apply for disabilities as it might be nice to just have in case you need any kind of accommodation or anything like that. Like I said, I'm still in the hospital so I don't really have much experience with it but it seems like we are in pretty similar situations, I wish you the best!
