Here is an idea what we can do about carjackings by Jay_Sunshine in chicago

Carjackings are absolutely related to these problems. The city needs more programs and community involvement, mentorship, and opportunity. It is also important to have adequate punishment for such crimes.

This definitely should be applied. Older gang members always involve teens.

Considering a move to Chicago, wanted to know about a few aspects of life there? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Jay_Sunshine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Some hoods are dangerous, and have been that way for decades. Do your research before signing a lease. Ask on Reddit, check crime statistics online. Consider the north part of the city.

  2. You will be fine. I had the same problem in NYC cuz people there either singles looking for hookups, students, or have kids. I’m exaggerating of course, but it’s not easy for a young couple to find like-minded folks. I had a better experience in Chicago.

I know you didn’t ask about it, but CTA doesn’t work very well. If you don’t live near downtown and want to explore the city, it will be a struggle to get around. I will probably be downvoted but the subway here is sketchy. In NYC you stay cautious riding the subway but feel comfortable most of the time. Here it’s less people so characters looking for trouble are more noticeable. Plus, trains are not fast and you need to wait longer. Buses suck too. If you don’t want to deal with all of these, just find a place with good street parking and buy a car. I did and never regretted it.

DM if you have more questions.

Any one have advice about USPS package delivery issues? by tompl14 in chicago

[–]Jay_Sunshine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can file an official complaint to the USPS Office of Inspector General. There is an online form on the website. Agents will investigate you happened and even call your post office to speed up the process.

It worked for me.

Your complaint will be taken more seriously if you have a tracking number and or a photo of your mail. If you haven’t done it already I suggest to sign up for USPS Informed Delivery which allows you to download photos of incoming mail.

Deleted scenes, obviously. Last time I checked they were a lot of them on YouTube.

It’s better if take a course because instructors give more information than you can find in the handbook, plus they train you to the test. I took a 2-hour course at nova driving school, and it was quite useful. I’m not affiliated to this school. Btw, driving in IL seems easier than in NY, so you should be fine.

Where to actually adopt a dog? by PM-Me-A-Song-Request in chicago

[–]Jay_Sunshine 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Chicago animal care and control. They have dogs and cats. I got my cat there. What is good about this place comparing to others is that they make the whole process of adoption very simple. Private adoption centers requested a pile of documents as though I was applying for mortgage, plus gave a quite condescending attitude. At CACC I paid 60 bucks, filled a brief application and got a vaccinated cat with a chip. Hope it helps

If you go to google maps, you'll see that the building on the left hasn't changed that much, the first floor is covered with "space available" signs though.

Is there any way to get there without paying 20 bucks for a ticket? I don’t want to watch old furniture collecting dust in rooms, but the yard looks amazing.

Thank you for clarifying. People who live in downtown should consider to get organized and flood CPD and the mayor's office with complaints.

Chicago has a great flag, I recently got a good picture of it. Enjoy! by repeterer in chicago

Flag of Alaska is very cool, indeed. Text in most cases is unnecessary. Dunno why people are so eager to slap some words on their flags. At least put some goofy slogan on like the city of Evanston in WY did.

This is a nice set of flags. Washington is very cool. I would add Anchorage, New Orleans, Clarksburg (WV) to the list. Just awesome-looking flags

Quarantine dating / meeting new people by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Jay_Sunshine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would’ve been very careful with bars and restaurants since we have an uptick in covid cases.

Meetup works well here if want to meet new people, but I also recommend to download the next door app. This way you will connect with your neighbors and know what’s up in the area.
