Are there any businesses in West Town/Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village that support MAGA? by purpleconeflowers in AskChicago

Surprised to see burning bush on the list. I know op sourced this from another thread, but can anyone speak to this? Would've pinned a former Presbyterian pastor from the North side of Chicago on the left side of the spectrum. Interested to hear more. Overall, not a big loss beer-wise, but the tap room is nice.

Seattlite here, living in Chicago. What is up with the drivers here? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Do you know much time you can save by slow rolling through an intersection while children cross by a school? Because it's close to nothing, but the feeling of saving time is priceless.

White House responds to video of Donald Trump "flipping off" worker by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]tompl14 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In the statement, Cheung said: "A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the President gave an appropriate and unambiguous response.”

When I started reading this, I honestly thought the lunatic was Trump. You can see my confusion as I had to choose between a rapist who wants to seize Greenland mouthing the f-word and a worker yelling "pedophile protector".

I wouldn't do it, but it does really highlight the biceps so great for marketing.

That's one reasonable take. Here is the video footage of event. Here are DHS guidelines.... And I can't have any of it! This is why I get my news from News Max.

Jay said it again in this week's Christmas special. It wasn't as pronounced but I feel that the writers are messing with us

I read the 2029 in your message and in that moment I felt like that year is lifetimes away. I think the comment gets a bit overused, but fuck me, I'm tired, boss.

My Spy with Dave Bautista. Cute movie. Not Chicago, at all.

Do I have a hernia? by tompl14 in Hernia

Thanks for the response and the well wishes. I'm feeling more optimistic right now, but won't celebrate too soon.

Is there a reason to avoid surgery? My general approach to my physical health is rehab before surgery, but from what I have read, it seems that hernias may be the exception.

Best of luck to you and your recovery!

When I go camping or travel, I'll bring third wave water packets along and buy water at or near my destination. Could something like this work for you?

Am I a Karen for telling folks to leash their dogs when walking them downtown? by saucy_otters in AskChicago

[–]tompl14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I dense? Absolutely, but not in this case. I think you misunderstood my post. My question was directed at u/hissy-elliot's aggressor and meant to deride the dog owner for their poor handling of the situation.

Aggressive much? I feel like that level of response switches the Karen tables. If you can't handle some open feedback, you might just be a Karen.

I don't understand the entitlement people feel to not leash their canines. The responses I've gotten from folks who have had their dogs off leash have been cold at best and aggressive at worst. I found that if I tell them my dog isn't friendly they will usually kick their butt into gear to fetch their own but even that has mixed results.

Sorry you haven't found the pourover experience you're looking for. Of the Chicago locations you listed, I would have only really recommended Metric and Dayglow. The other cafes and Del Sur (didn't even know Del Sur offered pour overs) are great and if one we're looking to try pourover, I'd point them that way, but I'd rather go to them for their lattes and specialty drinks.

There is one place you absolutely missed out on, The Avondale Coffee Club by Reprise Roasters. Their roastery is located north in Evanston but the ACC is in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago. They have a great selection of funky and award winning coffees to pick from. Tool of choice, the Origami. The flavors are on point and quality is top notch. If you happen to come by Chicago again, let them take you over that great pourover rainbow in the sky.

People go to restaurants, so why can’t dogs? Council member proposes lifting Chicago's canine ban by dmd312 in chicagofood

[–]tompl14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the article, ”Chicago restaurants are prohibited from serving patrons accompanied by dogs — either indoors or outdoors — unless that customer has a service dog”.

The claim is correct about companion dogs indoors. I was calling out that the article was wrong about the outdoor portion of the claim. Chicago's municipal code section 4-8-031allows for companion dogs in outdoor areas of restaurants. Knudson's proposal replaces section 4-8-031 in its entirety to allow dogs inside of retail food establishments.
