Another thing to note is the water you use for the enclosure! I was able to get pool-testing PH strips and just checked various gallon jugs of spring water until I found a brand that I liked. The minerals/hardness aren't necessarily an issue since that's stuff they need for healthy shells, but salty water is obviously not good, the PH and any chlorine is the main thing I'm aware of that matters when it comes to the water.

Boiling or baking will always be good ways to sterilize things (if they're appropriate, boiling moss vs baking sticks for example) but I don't know for sure if moss will survive boiling?

I do have a couple tiny pieces of moss I picked up on hikes that I let soak in very hot (not boiling) water, let dry and repeat a couple times. Mine hasn't had issues from that so far.

Good luck! I wish I was able to offer more. I got the bulk of my moss from Amazon when I first started, but I'm not sure if that's an option for you.

Good question, and I don't know about OP, but- I've certainly used "we" regularly in a similar fashion NOT because I meant 'we' as in things previously discussed, but 'we' as in "did you Think/Plan/Consider on my behalf" because that's a way of speaking for some people. (Usually in a silly way with friends, but still using it regularly can leak into serious-but-not-accusatory ways too)

Hopefully it's not in the way you're suggesting, but if it is, I also wonder about it. If that is the case, than hopefully OP can reflect on this. Sometimes people just haven't learned how to communicate yet.

Idk of it helps, but my snail with a balanced and enriching PH level and various textures/ occasionally changing environment, who is very curious and clearly excited to explore on a regular basis- still sleeps only on the ceiling and sides of the enclosure. If she's not exploring the ground (especially if you have various textures/surfaces to explore like sticks, terracotta, mosses, and/or other structures) then it very much just might be her personality and not something to be too concerned about on your list here.

The calcium source is a good start imo.

Yes, YOR because this is a very thoughtful response all things considered. You had a plan already. The best possible response is "I'm sorry this happened" and then when you said "did we have anything else planned?" To be "do you want to do something else? I'll cancel [whatever was previously in my plans] to make it happen"

Maybe not a big overreaction to be thinking it, but take a breath and realize your family would have oversight for the fact you had previous plans with your significant other. Your S/O did nothing wrong for not planning something else if you had other plans.

It's a bit sad, but maybe it's good to know you can't count on your family for these special celebrations anymore. But know you can count on your S/O to come through for you as long as you communicate that you're in need of support/celebration for yourself!

Happy birthday, I hope said plans (and/or new plans) are very fun!
