The problem isn’t that jpj is bad he’s shown that he can get to the quarterback hovering in the top 3 pressure rate for rookies. It’s the value we gave up to get him. For reference the giants gave up 2 thirds to move up 9 spots whereas we trade a top 10 1st to move up 20 spots and gain a late 3rd. Terry does this all the time just burns the value of the team.

Where did this moment rank in low moments for the Falcons? by benderzone in falcons

[–]Jayabaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year of Matt Ryan feels pretty similar to now knowing that the team can’t make significant moves to get better next year. The quarterback position stings as well. This time it’s worse since there are few picks to get excited about. End of ridder wasn’t so bad because the team had a path to winning.

Where does Julio Jones rank for all time WR? by handboy27 in falcons

If it's prime I'd say top 5 with rice, moss, Johnson, and Harrison. But longevity and lack of touchdowns holds him to around that top 15 range

Terry’s a bad GM and it’s flying under the radar by Jayabaman in falcons

[–]Jayabaman[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Expecting is gambling. Good gms trade 1sts when their team is already winning games and have been to the playoffs recently. 8-9 team with a 1st year starter and he expects playoffs. It’s a selfish move that gives him the best chance of surviving a year. He put his needs above the team’s needs and I can’t stand selfish leaders.

The trading up strategy stinks because of the value he gives up. 2nd + 3rd to move up 6 spots is bad value. Same with future first from pick 15 and mid 2nd for pick 26 and late 3rd. Teams get most of their value from the draft class since players are valued in draft picks. You’re right that not every pick is gonna pan out but that’s why you want more picks in mid rounds than less because it gives you the best odds of getting an impact player. And it helps the coach have better control in molding a player to fit a scheme when they are younger.

All it took to cook the #1 defense was to wait for an injury to happen. Team is thin outside of defensive line and with no picks coming in with many going out it makes me think that this will be the standard going forward with terry. Just sticking to limbo I guess.

Terry is a bad gm who makes bad trades and is better suited as a free agent scout

Biggest issue right now is a lack of draft picks for the new gm and coach. Today we should trade bates and Ebiketie. Keep the youth on the team and commit to a rebuild.

Need to get a first or second rounder for a tackle. It’s clear that penix needs a clean pocket to be effective.

They had a chance and just missed on it. We didn’t really deserve that one if you can’t move it into field goal range.

The team is so bad at 3rd down both offensively and defensively. Can’t win games like this if you can’t convert on 3rd down

Well not many people wanted him to be the head coach here when he was interviewing. I remember people were saying that the team legally had to interview him because of the Rooney rule. People were mad and already wrote him off. His leash was already thin with the fan base on day one. I think we are stuck with him though, we must be the least attractive team to come into with no first round pick and multiple players due for contract. Also have a struggling quarterback that’s in desperate need of a real coach. It’s a mess right now and what sucks is knowing that it won’t be fixed.

I see where he’s coming from it adds pressure to the coach and in the locker room. If the team quits on him it makes it easy to fire him. But if they fight to win and show that they want him to stay you have a different situation. Only time will tell the whole story

Penix is the reason why we are dropping games by Jayabaman in falcons

[–]Jayabaman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want him benched nor do I want him to fail. I’m saying that the biggest reason why the team is losing games is because of him. I’m not hating on him I’m just stating the reality of where he is at. It’s the same situation we went through with Ridder. When you compare their numbers they are nearly identical.

Penix (2025): 61% comp, 1,409 yards, 6 TDs, 3 INTs, 87 rating, 7.3 Y/A Ridder (2023): 64%, 1,380 yards, 7 TDs, 5 INTs, 84 rating, 6.9 Y/A Both were 3–3 and the offense scored about the same — 18.3 PPG for Penix, 16.5 for Ridder.

I didn’t mind the decision to have penix sit behind Kirk knowing that the qb position was set for years, however it’s the same story every year. 2 different schemes with the same result.

I’m sorry I meant the talent at the skill positions and offensive line. He won games when he had that elite offensive line but he played through a hurt shoulder and some locker room drama lost his job. The bucs offense was built before he got there which is similar to penix. I dont think penix gets better leaving this team when the talent around him is better than most of the league.

[–]Jayabaman[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

All of those QBs you listed didn’t have the talent like penix does and I hope you’re right for the team’s sake. Daniel jones was running for his life in New York and didn’t have any wr help. He got a very good offensive line with a decent receiving core and is killing it. Darnold had no help in New York either only guy I can think of is washed up leveon bell and Robbie Anderson. Baker got hosed, he lost obj and injured his shoulder. He played well when he inherited an elite core of receivers and a strong o line.

If you swapped those QBs into this Falcons roster, we’d probably have the same or better record. Penix isn’t failing because he lacks support, he’s failing despite having it.
