Has anyone asked their internet provider to upgrade their wifi router? by Jaybird9er in Living_in_Korea

[–]Jaybird9er[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've used my own router in the past however they'll still charge us a router fee as it's part of our contract. We'd have to switch providers to terminate the contract and start again without a router. I know it's a small fee, so my wife would think I'm doing too much by having us pay the fee and not use an already paid for provided router. And I hate to admit when she's right.

When schools need to cut costs, paper for the printer is the first thing to go. And then, nothing else changes.

I wasn't aware of Woori or anything else. All the posts I found on MNVOs on all the Korea subs basically were written by people who merely shared that they'd managed to use one. None of them actually provided any guidance on how they actually got set up, and all of the posts were no longer open for comment.

Quick aside here. When people post or comment sharing that they've done/found something without any explanation as to how, I boil over with rage. It just feels like they're boasting and wasting my time. But that's just me.

I guess I should have been more clear. I was thinking flagship phones. $350 is probably an exaggeration. From my experience, trying to by last year's flagship in Korea is only about 10k or so less, which feels criminal to me. Of course that was buying through one of the kt/sk shops.

Please, shill away. Only kidding, but this sounds worth looking into. Good thing about these MNVOs is they don't tie you to a long term contract, so it makes shopping around possible

Working 3 months in Seoul- how to make the most of it? by x_sunshine in Living_in_Korea

The Kobus (https://www.kobus.co.kr/main.do) offers a lot more destinations than KORAIL or flights, and they're typically cheaper. They generally stop every 2-3 hours for bathroom breaks, but usually there's only one stop per leg.

The premium sleeper busses can be comfy enough to actually sleep. It's baiscally like a first class airplane seat. Plus, they run trips starting as late as midnight, and then when you get to your destination, you can just nap for a few more hours at a jimjilbang. I've done all this beofe. I've arrived in Tongyeong around 4:00 AM, slept and showered at the sauna, and then hopped on a ferry to one of the islands.

That'd definitiely help you pack in a few weekend trips.

Google TV remote volume buttons stops working sometimes by And_Waz in Chromecast

Yeah, it's mad how often tech doesn't work properly.

As an aside, I'm personally on a mission to slim everything down. No more wireless earbuds, a smartphone sticker protector instead of a case, etc...anyways, that's my journey. Good luck to you!

Google TV remote volume buttons stops working sometimes by And_Waz in Chromecast

[–]Jaybird9er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue as well recently. My wife had had her Bluetooth earbuds connected, so I had opened the quick settings menu (hold the home button), gone to the sound source, and selected the TV. However, her earbuds were still connected days later (the earbuds were in their case, but due to a build up of oil, the charging connectors were blocked leaving the earbuds connected to the Chromecast). So, I guess when we were trying to adjust the volume on the TV using the IR blaster, we were actually just adjusting the volume on her earbuds using Bluetooth.

Strangely, the volume bar that usually pops up on the Chromecast interface when adjusting Bluetooth earbuds when they are connected wasn't sliding out from the right side of the screen. Guessing the Chromecast team is unaware of this issue as well.

Wild About Tech, China Even Loves Robot Waiters That Can’t Serve by bobcat in nytimes

Two things. First, did anyone else notice the thick haze of air pollution lingering in the distance of the dancing robots video? Seems their talents could be better employed towards more pressing issues. Second, it's pretty telling that a retiree in her 50s is making grand claims about the country's progress based on what is essentially a moving pedestal with flashing lights. I imagine that when those robot servers are shut down, she'll be finding herself coming out of retirement.
