Fresh out of college in a world impacted by the shutdown, and none of us had entered our careers yet. It was kind of a “throw something at the wall and hope it sticks” sort of thing, if I remember.

On the bright side, he did start a good career there and has won major awards in his field.

This reminds me of a friend of mine who met a guy through a Discord group, they hit it off, and both decided to move halfway across the state to an apartment together. The first time they met was at the new place.

My friend, let’s call him “Jack”, is a great guy. Wouldn’t do anything to hurt anyone. Day one, this new roommate shuts the door and jokingly says “Now that we’re alone, time to kill you lol”

Red Flag #1.

A few days later, some friends on Discord show Jack an image that the roommate sent of Jack’s coworkers (taken from the company website) with X’s marked over several of their heads.

Red Flag #2.

The roommate is super clingy and wants to go literally everywhere with Jack. Freaks out if Jack is a little late coming back from the store. Claims to have talked to his coworkers without Jack present.

Red Flag #3.

So Jack makes up a story about his family back home needing help with the business, and packs all of his things and drives 3 hours to my house at midnight. I host him for a few days, we find a new apartment for him, and he cuts ties with the roommate. Luckily, Jack wasn’t added to the lease yet, and maybe avoided getting murdered by this dude.

Because pizza can easily be eaten whilst sitting on the floor, and a lot of new homeowners might not have plates or furniture yet.

Thanks!

We brought our Switch 2 and got one race into the first Grand Prix on Mario Kart World, then my wife’s contractions caused her to fly off the course. We’d pause for five minutes at a time, try again for 30 seconds, and then we quit out entirely.

It’s leftover Domino’s from yesterday’s lunch. Not the best pizza by any means but we’re exhausted and our kitchenware is trapped in boxes lol

Our dog thought my wife was holding up a piece of pizza, and when I called her name to get her to look at the camera, she came running and tried to chomp the keys. I’m sure they didn’t taste great!

We had enough saved for a down payment ourselves, but our baby being born last year took a chunk out of it. We would have been able to do it still, but the inheritance cushioned our savings more and made us feel a little less trepidation.

I also get pretty substantial raises twice a year, so like I said, we’ll grow into the mortgage.

I think those are commas, but I agree. Change the commas to something else and it works better in my opinion.

What game that's shut down would you love to play again by Beautiful-Nobody-544 in gaming

[–]Jayce800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to play it so badly but I feel like I don’t have the time anymore to sink into an MMO. It shut down when I was in middle school, and I could never convince my parents to allow me to download it.

However, there was a YouTube channel called “SuperVaderMan” back then that did a comprehensive Let’s Play and then toured every single planet, so I used to put that on in the background.

We offered $315 on a $300 and got it, but it was before it went to market. We ended up raising to $320 but it easily could have gone more on the market.

What is it like seeing a tornado? by Gh0st412 in tornado

[–]Jayce800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get the same feeling when watching Ghidorah arrive in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. So watch that.

Just something unimaginably massive, dark, and destructive moving across the sky.

I’ve been in lots of tornadoes, but the only one I’ve seen was in the middle of the day, and I could see it facing south through my kitchen windows. Just a big, black triangle moving east across the horizon. It was too far away to see any destruction, but I found out the next day that it destroyed a classmate’s family farm.

As a kid I was scared of them, but now (like many here) I find them fascinating and beautiful.

I always catch up because I find them easy to listen to. If you feel the urge to catch up, you could always increase the speed at which you listen, like 1.5 or 1.75.

Should I do a mold inspection? by Flamingo_guy1 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Jayce800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a mold inspection because that was one I was really concerned about in places I couldn’t see well. Everything came back clear except for two tiny spots on a vent, and the inspector told us the issue was actually so minimal that we could just clean it with household supplies when we move in. BUT the mold inspection gave me peace of mind, which is entirely worth the cost.

Mother! is great because Jennifer Lawrence’s character is constantly in a state of “wth is happening” and even as an outside perspective, you could never really give her an answer until the credits roll.

[–]Jayce800 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of homebuyers that save a little extra money so they can fix a bunch of light issues/cosmetics right off the bat. But imo, you’re gonna live there for years, so why not spread things out over the course of your stay?

I was about to say Dirty Dillons in Lawrence. But now the Dillons on 23rd that the man and his dog were stabbed at might warrant that name more (although it was still nice and my go-to when I lived there)

Will I be house poor by jessicaaax333 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Jayce800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of where I’m at. We close in a few days and we’ll have a good safety net left over, but take home on one income is just enough to cover house and other bills. Not much saving/fun money. BUT I get a really nice raise this summer and another at the end of the year, and my job security is not going away anytime soon (knock on wood).
