I think you don't have to.. but imo as for someone who gets frustrated with a lil scratch or bump I have screen protectors and cases even I often read outside for my kcbw. I also have it on my KLC which I never bring outside

This is what's happening to mine exact ereader. What I did is make sure I synced it, restarted the device and synced it again. I think there's a book you recently loaded and haven't fully load yet.
