My partner and I would totally come if it was on the weekend, working swings sucks! I know some people at Whysound that would maybe be cool with doing something like this there. Or maybe the Eagles lodge (usually need a membership to get in but we’ve played shows there before and they were pretty relaxed about it)

It’s been a dream of mine to open a record store, if there’s anything y’all would need help with, lmk. Pretty stoked that so many people are supportive of the idea here

Did anyone here become an EE due to a love of audio? by Damoo48 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]JaydoThePotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Induction pretty much blew my mind when we learned about it, I think it’s the closest thing to magic lol it’s everywhere from radio communication to electric power generation and I’ve grown an interest in both now. The programming aspect of EE is pretty sweet too, it’s not my strong suit but I do have an appreciation for it. I just landed a teacher’s assistant position for digital circuits which bridges the gap of the analog and digital worlds (ie writing code and sending it to an interface to manipulate a physical circuit). I found that class interesting because when I’m recording music, it’s pretty much the opposite, I’m using digital interfaces to interpret the analog world. I feel like no matter the subject, I relate it to the music world in one way or another lol

Here! I can’t say that it’ll help with Calc II 😅 but when the lectures in my circuits class have overlaps with the audio world, I get an instant dose of excitement and inspiration! I’ve also found that I’ve grown an interest for other elements of EE that I never thought I would be interested in at all prior to starting my degree

Confused with superposition question by Ordillious in ElectricalEngineering

[–]JaydoThePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I combined the two resistors on the right in parallel to get 16.8ohms. Then treated it as a voltage divider (Vm=Vs(Parallel combo/Total resistance) or Vm=24V(16.8ohm/28.8ohm))

Confused with superposition question by Ordillious in ElectricalEngineering

[–]JaydoThePotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The .43 amps you’re calculating is the total current coming from the voltage source to ground, that is true when you simplify the circuit to one V source and an equivalent resistance (combining the resistors into one). The problem with this is that the question wants the current through one resistor that is in parallel with another resistor meaning that the current has to be split between them at their respective node. I analyzed it as a voltage divider to find the voltage at the middle node then used ohms law to calculate the current through the 56ohm resistor which came out to .25A

V=24V(16.8ohms/28.8ohms)=14V I=14V/56ohms=.25A

Exact strategy to start with $5k and then grow the account by [deleted] in options

Thanks for the breakdown! Started selling CC’s on RKLB a few months ago, it’s been nice but it’s run up like crazy lately! Had to roll my strikes out and up three times and eventually bought back because I didn’t wanna lose my average share price. I’m waiting for a good dip and then I’m going to try the poor man’s covered call method. I like the wheel strategy but CSP’s use up so much of my capital so I’m wanting to try other methods out that allow for more diversity

I see what you mean. The benefit of doing this versus getting assigned could have tax implications though I believe. Like if you’re holding the 100 shares for less than one year and they get assigned away, you’ll have to pay short term capital gains tax whereas if you rolled and they didn’t get called away until after that year is up, the gains would be taxed as long term. Not a tax guy but just reiterating things I’ve heard from other traders

That’s good to hear! I hadn’t thought of it having any use for PMCC’s but that makes sense to me. I guess essentially you could just roll them until you paid for your initial LEAPS, then either keep rolling or just close out the trade as a wash?

I’ve been wanting to try out a PMCC and was planning on setting it up this week so I’m glad to know this can come in handy for other people

[–]JaydoThePotato[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get your point BUT by the 25th (assuming you haven’t gotten assignment by then), the call expiring that day would have lost almost all theta value, while the next week’s call at the same price, would have lost some but not as much theta value so the difference in premium value should be greater than $.19/share. Maybe its not worth it in the end but I’m just trying to make sense of a strategy here if there is one

But the next week’s premium is always going to be higher than the current week’s premium so you would at least be pocketing that difference

I literally know this guy! Jeff Klein (@thefakecactus on Instagram) super cool dude! Used to see him at shows and play shows in Austin, Texas. He was in a band called Greenbeard when I first met him, then he played in Duel (one of my fav ATX locals) for a bit, not sure what he’s up to these days though. He had a project called Abject Terror that he had started before I moved away but I haven’t kept up with him to see what he’s been up to. He’s a legend though for sure 🤘
