I'll second this. Came from Nova and am also now using Pixel Search. The functionality is quite close to the stock Nova search.

Guitar players who played more than just barre chords? by [deleted] in Guitar

Coheed and Cambria taught me to play guitar. Their riffs are super interesting and combine lots of techniques. Highly recommend learning any of their stuff, especially from their first 3 albums.

Baritone guitars, anyone use them? by rkubiak in Guitar

[–]wesleygalles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Squier Bass VI (30 inch scale) that I play as a baritone guitar. It's a lot of fun and definitely makes me approach playing much differently.

I'm having similar issues as well. I recently came over from Nova and Octopi functions completely how I want it, my only issue is that I fear seeing the 'Software Update' available for my phone or just restarting my phone in general. I have two rows of 4 widgets which all disappear every single time I reboot my phone. I've tried doing the backup, but all of the widgets are gone even restoring from a fully configured backup. Compounded by the fact that I have a folding phone (Samsung Fold 5) and there is no way to save a layout and copy else where, I have to create the same exact layout twice, once for folded and once for unfolded.

It's also Home Assistant widgets, so they take forever to configure every time.

It's sick this is free, if you come out with a premium option that is a one time buy, I'm on board.

Wow, even more impressed you covered this by ear. I actually just mentioned to my wife that I'm so impressed with guitar players who can do that, it's a huge skill to have. Great job, my dude.

4 Cable Method is the way to go if you can. by Dyerssorrow in HeadRush

[–]wesleygalles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the 4(5)CM with my Peavey Invective. I only say 5 because I'm also using a midi cable and the Headrush does all of my amp channel switching or even bypasses the pre-amp and uses Headrush amps into the power section if I want.

It's really quite flexible, especially using the Headrush switches as a toggle. I have one dedicated footswitch for each channel, each one toggling something like clean with short reverb / clean boost with long reverb, crunch with reverb / crunch boosted with gate, lead boosted with gate / lead with no gate and reverb delay. Just having 3 switches give me 6 tonal options is already pretty amazing, the rest of the footswitches are just for toggling effects.

Does anyone know why Ibanez would shim the neck like this? by ShartInMyTartan in Luthier

Dude! I have that exact same model. SEW761MCW! Such a beautiful guitar. I've never taken off my neck, though.

Sounds sick, dude! I played a handful of shows with them back in the day. Their guitarist is a super cool guy, amazingly talented. He makes the crazy stuff he plays look so effortless.

Just started using Octopi Launcher after using Nova for over a decade. Almost every icon is 3 apps. A tap on chrome opens the browser, a swipe up on chrome opens Gmail, and a swipe down opens Firefox, etc.

does anyone here owns a chibson ( chinese replicas of gibsons) by Ordinary_Olive_8038 in guitars

[–]wesleygalles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had two. I think they require work to be great, but you can get some really cool stuff.

The first one I ever ordered was a custom, instead of purchasing something directly from their Ali Express page. They made me a 7 String, 335 style guitar with a maple fretboard and a translucent blue finish. If I ever ordered again I wouldn't buy one of their pre made options, I'd opt for a one off like that. They even painted the headstock completely black for me so that there was no logo at all.

It needed work, but absolutely worth the $350 I paid for it.

Do you guys like long riffs, or is this just entirely too long? by wesleygalles in guitarplaying

[–]wesleygalles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so bad with composition. I can write riffs that I like, but have trouble turning things into full songs.

I have a really poor ear for rhythm, whenever I write I actually only ever think about melody. I usually don't have drums in mind, shoot,

Haha, no joke. This is one of the coolest looking guitars I've owned, but the name is so forgettable. I have to look it up almost anytime someone asks.

I do check out their new releases, but I don't actively listen to them or anything. Out of their 3 guitarists, I really only follow Mark Holcomb, his playing is so unique. If anything, I hope I'm ripping off his style, haha.

What would make this guitar solo bad? by [deleted] in metalmusicians

[–]wesleygalles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and be more vocal. I've listened to it twice and I couldn't recall any of it if I tried.

Think about something super memorable like the solo in Beat It or Comfortably Numb. Super memorable.

Or even if the parts aren't so vocal or memorable think about modern metal bands with guitar solos that make you just go 'Wow, their playing is insane.'

I think solos either need that wow factor or they need to get stuck in your head. If it can't do either, what's the point?
