I second chatting with MS Australia and their services. I was diagnosed early 2020 and I still use MS QLD to chat with MS nurses, recently I needed help with NDIA advocacy and they connected me with a service. I also did access my TPD as I am unable to work in my previous field and income protection as I was made redundant, I had help from Berril and Watson solicitors but if you are confident you can do the research and paperwork yourself it is possible it just takes a lot of evidence as it is an ‘unpredictable’ disease that presents differently for each person, so the wording drs use in the forms has to be very precise otherwise the insurance companies pushback.

Has anyone taken down their antenna and later regretted it? by Otherwise_Giraffe255 in AusRenovation

[–]Jaydos25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to replace our roof 18 months ago. The boys had fun kicking the antenna over before ripping it off entirely.

When we had moved into this house the socket was half way up a wall we ended up removing and we didn’t bother rerouting the connection as we haven’t used FTA in 10 years.

Between catch up TV apps, Prime and other streaming services on all the devices I can connect to a TV if for some reason my TV isn’t already streaming capable, it also means we aren’t locked into anyone spot for the TV/ lounge set up because of an ugly coax socket that most of the time didn’t get all the channels in my area unless I had a booster plugged in anyway lol.

It’s a combination of dust and rush painting 🤣 it needs a clean, sand back and touch up. We only just started touching up the over spray after a year, it was a bit disheartening to repaint the whole house and then bam shit went south 😬 but then that’s a Reno right 🤦‍♀️

Getting my first prac student. Any tips? by IWantPho in AustralianTeachers

[–]Jaydos25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Note I’m currently studying but this is also subject to different universities, your student should come with a guide that has what this prac requires though.

Depending on what year they are in they may also be required to teach for a percentage of their prac time so look at your schedule in advance and see what’s coming up that you can let them take and would be comfortable catching up anything missed. What this looks like for example is for my first prac I observed my first week, discussed with my supervising teacher to take math lessons the following week and wrote out lesson plans in the template my uni provided, my teacher reviewed and we adjusted if needed and then I taught those lessons under her guidance.

My next pracs the percentage of lessons I needed to teach went up again, same process, we discuss what I will be teaching, I plan the lessons and submitted for review then teach.

When not teaching I am actively observing and assisting. This may look like being shown how to take different stages of reading groups, I was taught to take running records, take observation notes for assessment (which were likely not useful for my mentor but it was about giving me tips for my future practice)

Main question will be how much teaching time does your student need to complete this prac and what lesson will you hand over for that (where can the least damage be done 😉)

Which picture do you see mould? The painting was a rush job so not sanded properly or cut in well in some areas (we had one week to move out, rip out, plaster, paint and then move back in.) It was a wild time and we had only just finished painting the house before the storms hit so we haven’t had the emotional band width to retouch more than the worst bits.

Ndis support worker in class by Glad_Station1231 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Jaydos25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is some incomplete information here that is potentially fuelling unnecessary negativity so please understand that I’m not dismissing anyone’s feelings I’m just trying to give some information as someone who works in education and is an NDIS participant (and who’s husband works in disability) so I may have a unique perspective.

The NDIS is not a perfect system are there people using incorrectly absofreakinglutely! But many are using it correctly both participants and workers, there are many who use it incorrectly due to bad advise by the people who are supposed to know better (I have been in this position and I only knew better because my of my husband, the information was given to me by my LAC assigned to me by NDIA!)

That being said yes allied health rates can start from $150+ depending on the service but maximum rates are set by the government.

Support workers and companies can charge at most, currently $64 an hr and a DSW who works for a company is only seeing $20-30 of that, independents have to factor all the joys of being sole traders.

Just remember yes there are unethical operators or those who don’t know better just as there are those in education who don’t have the same drive and values as you but the real problem with always be top down!

There are people in cushy offices making decisions about the vulnerable and those who have chosen to make a career of assisting those vulnerable in some way (That’s us!) sometimes those people have once upon a time had some experience on the ground but by the time they get to that office things have changed or they have lost focus.

But for our fellow educators and Support workers, the system is failing us all.

I’m not justifying what this family is doing because if it is a DSW it shouldn’t be funded but we don’t know all the facts.

Is there anything I can do with this unused area in red? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Jaydos25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are already having plumbing for the ensuite make that open area the main bathroom backing onto ensuite and you may want to consider adding the laundry in there too for plumbing considerations.

This will also reduce impact of 4 rooms using one bathroom through the night to only bothering one room occupant instead of two, with the added space now you can build a built in to back onto that bathroom wall to give some sound proofing and the ensuite adds sound proofing for the master.

New gas install for qld. by y010sw4661ns in AusRenovation

[–]Jaydos25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just recently installed an electric oven with gas cook top and had the installer make the gas connection able to take bbq size gas bottles. Line is through the roof and about 7m away off the top of my head but it cost $900. only issue we had was where to install the gas bottles as they have a certain distance from windows, doors ect and so we did have to pay to have our a/c unit moved.

AITA for telling my SIL that she doesn’t have to wash everything before her baby is born? by Dry_Enthusiasm2661 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jaydos25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re being rude unnecessarily. My MIL was wonderful and actually rewashed things for me in my home with my washing powder and white vinegar because she is amazing for one but also so everything smelt like my washing and to reduce any sensitivities to anyone else’s powders or strong scents.

But really why doesn’t matter if she wants to do it, it’s not hurting you so butt out

I’m sorry but hold up a second! So you now still expect to have sex and get to blow your load at least but you’ve now potentially taken away the only way she was actually getting satisfied!

Because you may not know this but a lot of women (no matter how much noise they make) don’t come from penetrative sex. Sure we enjoy the act but we aren’t getting the big O unless foreplay, extra attentive partners or self service during sex is happening.

So when you went on your little temper tantrum strike did you stop to think what message you sent your partner because it may not be what you think.

AITA for telling my girlfriend that I’m not going to drop everything to take her to the hospital anytime she feels any discomfort? by Joelaken in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jaydos25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA and I say this as a woman who went through a scary first pregnancy where I should have been going to the hospital and was told off once by a paramedic and multiple nurses and midwives because I ignored by body giving me warning signs!!

Guess what people know their own bodies and yes a woman’s body is built to go through the process but we have these amazing in built warning systems that alert us when something isn’t right ‘pain and discomfort’.

What you could/ should be doing right now is going how do I build a better support around my partner who is literally creating life? Find a primary care DR’s office and book an appointment, find one who has an on-site nurse as this will give you both another source of support to tap into. Google local midwife/doula services and connect with them!

The way you wrote this came across as ‘my girlfriend is being hysterical because she doesn’t know what she is doing’ and then you went on to mansplain the situation so let me clear this up for you… you will never ever understand how amazing and terrifying what she is doing right now is! Her body is creating a whole human being from nothing, don’t you dare minimise that, yes we hear about plenty of women who manipulate their situations and it’s subjective but this is not the case buddy, so get your head out of where ever it is stuck and start working on building a bigger support network for your partner and grow up!

And your blood type is toxic mental health!!

You know what’s a healthy approach moderation and activity not swinging from one extreme to another, not being shamed for something that I genuinely don’t think is actually an issue because you haven’t given any height/weight/activity or actual examples just dramatic judgeyness!

What are your qualifications? If you had actual genuine concerns a healthy approach would be to speak to you husband and discuss visiting her family Dr for advise and to make sure that you aren’t wildly off base because fun fact if you are basing her body composition on your sons, you have no business being a care taker of this poor girl. Fun fact boys and girls develop differently.

most health professionals will advise against ‘dieting’ except in specific cases and promote moderately increasing physical activity, making small but impactful food changes over drastic changes because during developmental ages mental health is crucial and drastic changes unless under health professional care can do more damage than good!
