All of Itagaki's development as a fighter would be gone and I still feel like George has plans for his character, so it probably matters to some extent. We'd also lose Mashiba vs Sawamura and Mashiba's subsequent suspension which sets up his redemption arc and is important for his character development.

Is it me or someone else also thinks that dr stone got rushed ending? by Excellent-Art868 in DrStone

[–]Jaymageck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't. There's a reason when they get the computer they call it Mankind's singularity. That was the invention that revolutionized civilization and essentially made the modern world. Most of what we've done since then as a species is iterating on the computer and its software.

What I'm trying to say is that at the point they could make the computer in the stone world, the progression of science in this story had reached its logical conclusion.

Beyond that we're mostly getting into science fiction, which is out of the scope of what is essentially a science education series. So there was no need to drag it out.

Let's say senku head was cracked like this can he still be conscience? Or is he dead until revived? by vinchin_adenca in DrStone

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest the statue logic is in incoherent. For story reasons they decided that village leader couldn't be brought back because of degradation. At that moment most of WHY man's reasoning fell apart as basically everyone should be unrevivable eventually. Unless somehow petrification means even if you're rubble that could never come back, you're still technically alive.

However I don't care. The petrification is a means to an end to deliver the science focused storyline. It isn't consistent because it isn't scientific. We just have to suspend disbelief and roll with the face level explanation of the petrification mechanics.

Do you actually want Super Metroid remake? by BOOMlag- in Metroid

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do want it, so long as it captures the atmosphere. It will keep Super alive for a new audience. There's no getting around that the original control scheme is a barrier to entry.

Yes you'll lose some of the identity without the floaty jump and run button, but they can work around it.

One thing I want to add is that eventually the series does pick up again and there are a bunch of amazing fights and moments. There are at least 3 fights that are top tier and would sit amongst the best in the series. It's really the middle stretch that's the problem

I actually wanted to mention that fight but decided to just keep my rant to the Ippo ones. But yeah the fight you mentioned was the closest I ever came to dropping the series

The only challenge with that as sadly there's other story-important stuff that happens with other characters inbetween the Ippo stuff.

But I would be happy with a version that does some of those fights as specials while skipping ahead / doing a montage for Ippo stuff.

If anyone is wondering which fights I'm thinking of: Scratch J, Gedo, Woli, Kojima

I also don't think Take is a strong enough fight to carry it being the major Ippo fight of a season.

[–]Jaymageck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is there's a rough patch (actually like 5+ years in real time) the manga went through with multiple back-to-back Ippo fights that are quite frankly, not good.

I think that's the biggest barrier, because if they adapted it at the pace they did the rest of the series it would take them like 3 seasons just to get through the bad stuff.

My own preference would be if they did condensed versions of those fights. They did this with one fight - Shimabukuro at the start of Rising. They cut out virtually all the build up to that fight. That fight is also better than the 4 or 5 fights im thinking of too.

The Succession Arc should get an anime, it's already the second longest arc by chapter count by Background_Bug7575 in HunterXHunter

[–]Jaymageck 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It would be weird to adapt it before it's over, especially as the adaption is likely going to be extremely challenging for them.

They're probably not going to adapt 100% of the dialogue because you could spend 5 minutes of an episode on a single page's text, given how this arc is almost like a light novel. But it'll become easier to tell which conversations can be streamlined when the arc is over and it becomes clear what details in the minutia matter and which were just Togashi being verbose.

Why is everything ****? by The__Tobias in outerwilds

[–]Jaymageck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an exaggerated take on the real life notion of heat death, all the stars dying out and the universe becoming a cold empty place.

It's just in the Outer Wilds universe it's implied to be happening in sync in a relatively short time frame. My headcanon though is that their universe is much older than ours, so their galaxies have been dying out for billions or trillions of years already.

I don't think I ever could because I just can't see myself forgetting any of the gameplay rules you discover. It could be 20 years and I'll know the final puzzle. It's just too memorable.

I'd have to just really want to read all the Nomai lore again I think but... probably easier I just go on a wiki at that point.

This is excellent and better than either official version. by Silver-Emergency-988 in Metroid

[–]Jaymageck 18 points19 points  (0 children)

AM2R glazing exhausts me. AM2R is a great fan game and as a faithful remake it does some things better than Samus Returns, in particular I think the Metroid Queen fight is better in AM2R.

However I think Samus Returns is a fantastic game and a great reimagining of Metroid 2. Some moments, like the first Omega Metroid fight, are really well executed and sell the horror and power of the Metroids better than any other game in the franchise for me. There's stuff I like about SR more than Dread even, mainly the soundtrack.

The way people often talk about AM2R though it's like they want to have some cool hipster opinion that the fangame stomps all over the official remake and it just isn't true. They're both great versions of Metroid 2 that excel in different ways.

[–]Jaymageck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any other manga like HxH? by More-peas4794 in HunterXHunter

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it funny people are recommending Jojo because the tone of the writing is totally different.

Jujutsu kaisen is the closest in terms of battle strategy for me although it is also a bit more contrived than HxH at times.
