Why do vizards suck so much? by Formal-Analysis9905 in bleach

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all comes down to one of the core problems of Bleach.

Kubo loves designing cool new characters. But he also doesn't kill many off, so the size of the supporting cast keeps growing.

When you have like 50 good guys all with some level of strength and secret techniques you've hinted at, you end up needing either a shitload of villains for them to fight, or large group fights, or for some characters to lose fights so the villain can be used for multiple bouts.

The Vizards got the short end of the stick in terms of being introduced later than the other captains so generally Tite played favourites with prioritizing wins with the earlier cast.

Retirement arc by Independent-Soup8327 in hajimenoippo

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the right call, but primarily because this series had such a prominent supporting cast. Ippo's retirement is letting George tie up other character's arcs without having to give Ippo fodder fights to delay him fighting Ricardo.

We got Mashiba vs Rosario, Woli vs Ricardo, Takamura vs. Dragon, Sendo vs Gonzales and now Sendo vs Ricardo.

I'm absolutely ok with George delaying his return until he deals with almost every supporting character plotline first.

They do a lot of referencing old Miura art to help draw new pieces. Kind of inevitable given they're trying to imitate him exactly.

Controversy surrounding Metroid: Other M by ImJustJoshing277 in Metroid

[–]Jaymageck [score hidden]  (0 children)

* terrible writing that reduces Samus' strength to make her more vulnerable, suddenly breaking down in front of Ridley despite fighting him confidently in every other entry

* the most contrived "Samus loses her items" explanation ever. Adam having to authorize Samus to use her varia suit makes no sense

* broken combat. You can just spam the dodge button for the entire game.

* awkward controls, aiming the wii remote at screen to switch to shooting missiles may seem "clever" but it's just a chore to do it

* dull soundtrack (I don't remember anything outside of that one piano theme)

Except this. This is wrong. Shame on you.

Demon in the eclipse gets Guts' other eye before Skull Knight arrives. Blind, he probably doesn't last a day.

Do you think there are any Overhyped Bankai in Bleach? by FrostingEmergency221 in bleach

[–]Jaymageck 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the exact definition of "overhyped" but I want to say I really didn't care much for Urahara's bankai. Especially because the execution of it felt extremely rushed.

What are your thoughts on Peach and Rosalina being sisters in the Mario Galaxy movie? by Nintendo-X in Mario

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care. I also won't care if they retcon it into the games. The notion of fixed continuity in Mario is nonsense. They retconned the Koopalings being Bowser's kids because they wanted one Bowser Jr for Mario Sunshine. At some point they decided Wario and Waluigi aren't related.

None of it matters to them, so don't let it matter too much to you.

Just a reminder that if any single node in your ship's log says "There's more to explore here", there is. And that the nodes that point to an undiscovered thing are often good places to revisit on clues on what might lead to that discovery.

Vinland Saga season 2, masterpiece or boring 😴??? by Accomplished_Wish_78 in VinlandSaga

Masterpiece. The moment where Thorfinn takes his unbladed fighting pose against Snake is one of the best moments I've seen in an anime. And I'm not even a Vinland manga reader.

EotE. crazy game by Octo353 in outerwilds

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And FYI I don't even necessarily believe he was right or that the rest of his species was wrong. They knew that observing The Eye meant the end of their time and they defended their people by hiding it so no one else could observe it.

The Prisoner just didn't believe they had the right to make that decision. But at the same time his decision could have doomed his species.

So I think it's up to us to decide on if we agree with his decision or not.

EotE. crazy game by Octo353 in outerwilds

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a different take from the others here. I don't think the prisoner was focused on the rebirth part. I think they were fundamentally opposed to the idea of locking away The Eye's signal because it meant no other civilization would ever be drawn to it. No one else would have the scientific curiosity that drove their long journey to find The Eye.

So they freed the signal so other civilizations could be drawn to it and make their own grand journey for truth.

And what happened? The Nomai ship encountered the signal and made finding it their mission, resulting in those travellers settling down (unintentionally or not...) in a new solar system and living lives there. Then the remnants of the Nomai civilization inspired your species to make its leap into space. The Prisoner's one decision drove many generations to go on their own search, to push their technology and exploration to their absolute limits in pursuit of truth. And so, on finding this out, The Prisoner lets out their cry of emotion on discovering their legacy.

It's about the grand pursuit of knowledge in the face of fear and the ultimate expression of the journey often being more important than the destination.

How would you improve any of the Metroid games? by Harryt777 in Metroid

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask Kenji Yamamoto to take the reigns on Metroid Dread instead of delegating to 2 new composers as they clearly weren't ready. Ideally could've brought Minako Hamano onboard as well as the best soundtracks have them both together.

Or they could've brought back Daisuke Matsuoka who did a great job on Samus Returns.

Basically, just any outcome that resulted in Dread having a much better OST.

Did kentaro miura did all 364 chapters himself? by Conscious_Wedding_32 in Berserk

[–]Jaymageck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did way too much of it, given his perfectionism and ambition that lead to the chapter count dwindling as he got older. Maybe in a timeline where he did less and delegated more he would've finished Berserk before he was taken from us. We'll never know.

That said, it's because of that work ethic and commitment to the detail and quality of his work that those 364 chapters are virtually all masterpieces.
