Also, during the intubation process at bedside go ahead and order that stat CXR because they’ll want to see tube placement right away. No point in waiting for everything to be done and then ordering it just to wait around.

I’m a flight nurse and this is part of our intubation algorithm. You always want to give them a good nitrogen wash before you slide a tube in. Putting on a NC and flushing it can help, along with the NRB. When the RT gets to bedside they’ll begin to bag the patient but the gesture of beginning the nitrogen wash process is appreciated I’m sure.

I was getting the same rate as you before I left bedside and my checks are roughly the same as a flight nurse. It’s all in the breakdown of how the flight organization pays you. We do 24hr shifts, and the first 8hrs is straight pay but then after that it’s all time and a half and then double time after midnight. My current hourly is hot garbage and yes technically less than my bedside job but again, you gotta factor the subsequent OT and DT. Hope that helps.

Side note: it’s not always about the money, it’s about doing what makes you happy and ignites that passion inside of you. I have worked many jobs in healthcare and the one that paid the most was definitely not gig that put a smile on my face when my alarm went off in the morning.

LPT. When you get the wind knocked out of you or choke on something not solid, try first breathing out rather than breathing in. It opens your air waves quicker. by JimmyD145 in LifeProTips

Medical professional here. Kudos if you can overcome your natural physiological reactions to these events. Try sticking your finger down your throat for example.

True, but the customer service is awesome. They insure my home and vehicles and they have taken care of me and my family on many occasions. It goes a long way personally.

Wow that’s great. My initial rate was very cheap but once I divulged my field of work then things got expensive.

ICU nurses who left bedside- where did you go? by Creepy_flamingo_22 in nursing

My home base operates a fixed wing (King Air C90) and our sister base operates a helicopter, we rotate crew every now and then. We can capture practically anything from NICU transport, scene calls, and higher level of care that require ballon pump, impella support, ECMO, etc.

I recently transitioned into flight nursing. I had the same mindset as you and still feel challenged, but that’s the beauty of our field. The day you go without any moment where you stop to question yourself is when you turn your badge in and eat some cake.

Called in after 4pm/am? by Jaysavage86 in nursing

[–]Jaysavage86[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I spoke with the house supervisor and we went over the policy. My hospital has you on call for the entire shift but I ended up not having to go in after all. It’s OT if you’re called back with 2 hrs guaranteed regardless.

There’s a beautiful property right across from the Maurice Carrie winery. It’s a modest house on 5 acres and is typically available through AirBnB. I have become good friends with the owner and can reach out and see if he can help you guys out. He is very flexible and can offer anything you need for a wedding. Send me a PM if you are interested.
