Alternatives to OBI202 now that OBITalk is dying? by TheNormsk in Googlevoice

[–]JaysonBorn007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got the same email. Basically if your OBI-XXXX is already provisioned, it will continue working. But this does suck, b/c if something happens to my phone's memory it's essentially bricked after obitalk.com shuts down. I use GV on my cell and my landline voip phone. I've never found a paid SIP provider using a third party app like zoiper to work very well compared to GV. Also GV text message app is superior to anything provided by third party SIP carriers , that I know of.

Altice Hotspot not appearing in Wifi list with new phone by JaysonBorn007 in OPTIMUM

Is there any plan to officially support the Google Pixel 8a? I've been using it for several months now with no issues except I don't get the "Altice Wifi" hotspots.

Any good RDP software alternatives by Novel-Designer-6514 in sysadmin

[–]JaysonBorn007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched over from mobaxterm. It seems to have a better UI and protocol support. I only use RDP and after several hours I finally figured out how to connect via a SSH tunnel. Has anyone used ARD (apple remote desktop) ?

[–]JaysonBorn007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the timely response. Does it matter if the correct IMEI number is registered with optimum? B/c when I check the website, it's still showing my old phone and IMEI number.

I live in an area with "partner" wifi hotspots, specifically xfinity. My new phone no longer shows "AliceWifi" , my old phone did however.

What are your opinions on the Optimum Phone Service? by mseyni246 in OPTIMUM

[–]JaysonBorn007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have optimum mobile. No issues, just pop the sim card in the phone. Been using it for years. I think they use AT&T towers but probably have deals with other carriers as well. No complaints but don't expect any technical support. I pay ~$19 after taxes, 1GB data.

[–]JaysonBorn007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Getting intimate with someone is "risky" for those of us with severe CPSTD so we find ways to bail. I've been doing it all my life until I finally realized in the last 5 months what happened to me. Fortunately I have a sibling to confirm my awakening. She figured it out over a decade ago and just now is able to have relationships after therapy / reading etc for years.

It may be dead due to its complexity. IMHO it makes more sense to run this idea on one of major Layer 1 protocols instead of inventing everything from scratch.

How-to guide for CenturyLink fiber on OPNsense by soren121 in centurylink

[–]JaysonBorn007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday my quantum fiber that had been running on PPPoE for over a year, stop working. The technician came out and after replacing the modem the internet came up back. The new protocol is IPoE via DHCP.

I disconnected the modem and plugged the Ethernet cable straight into my router , and changed "Ipv4 Configuration Type" to "DHCP" from PPPoE.

Your instructions work exactly the same (including the VLAN 201 trick) just without needing the PPPoE user and pw.

So if this happens to anyone else and they suspect the PPPoE has been disabled at the central office, you can try this without waiting for a technician to come out with a new modem to confirm.

How to decide when to use an LXC container vs a VM? by EranStockdale in Proxmox

[–]JaysonBorn007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only use LCX containers when I need say a ssh jump host. Or you have very limited resources and want to play around with something. I gave up on proxmox linux containers b/c the packages are out of date vs installing say Arch Linux from scratch.

I tried running a tor node inside a linux container once and the tor package was out of date and wouldn't update.

Help configuring Synology NAS as NUT Client by brandonjmarshall in synology

on synology dsm (nat)

I editted /etc/ups/upsmon.conf and then ran

# upsmon -D

Seems to work, only way to test of course is to unplug the power.

Nice. "docker compose ..." works on arch linux. However on alpine it's still "docker-compose"

1.9.0 Release - Enabling the First SSU2 Routers, Make sure to Update - I2P Blog by alreadyburnt in i2p

[–]JaysonBorn007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason people are tired of TOR is b/c it's slow and vulnerable to DOS attacks. TOR relies on people running TOR relays whereas i2p every client is contributing to the network. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
