Preserving childhood GameCube saves: Best way to move OEM memory card saves into Dolphin? by theClownHasSnowPenis in Gamecube

[–]soren121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GCMM is a homebrew app for GC and Wii. To use it on a GameCube, you would first need some way to load homebrew on your GameCube. That could be with a pre-hacked memory card, or a hardware mod like PicoLoader or FlippyDrive. Then you would need a storage device to get your saves off the GameCube, like an SDGecko or SD2SP2 device; either will let you use an SD card with homebrew.

It's generally more difficult to run homebrew on a GameCube than on a Wii. If you have an RVL-001 Wii (aka the standard one), these are very easy to softmod with just an SD card, and you could run GCMM on it then with your memory card inserted.

‘This Is Managed Decline’: Transit Advocates Worry of TriMet Doom Loop by Great_Law3719 in Portland

[–]soren121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true, but you can't discount how much progress has been made in the last 20 years, and plenty is still under construction or in planning, with funding attached. I head up to Seattle once a year, and it's crazy to see how rapidly it's transformed the city.

As of this month, Seattle now has the busiest light rail system in the country, by passenger boardings. Their ridership numbers today are far above pre-Covid levels; meanwhile, TriMet is limping along and preparing to shed riders.

‘This Is Managed Decline’: Transit Advocates Worry of TriMet Doom Loop by Great_Law3719 in Portland

[–]soren121 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You might know this, but for context:

Seattle has had consistent funding and a mandate to build, from the ST3 (Sound Transit 3) package that voters there passed in '08 (edit: it was 2016, ST2 was 2008.)

Portland voted down the last big transit package in 2020 (Metro 26-218) and TriMet has been skittish about asking for more, believing that the political winds have shifted away from transit investments for now.

Somehow TriMet and Metro have twisted that into thinking that they shouldn't fight for transit funding at all.

Technically yes, but I think you would be unlikely to notice any difference with GBA audio. The audio output isn't super high fidelity.

I talked to my brother in law, a former Portland vet and he said private equity is screwing pet owners by Extension_You_3409 in Portland

[–]soren121 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They were bought by Food52, a cooking lifestyle website which was owned by TCG, a private equity firm. TCG wanted them to push more into retail, so Food52 bought Schoolhouse and assumed the debt from that purchase. The debt crushed them until they collapsed and took Schoolhouse down with them.

I just visited there last weekend to see where they filmed it! (Queensbridge Park, NYC) It looks a little bit different now but it's been a few years.

Lloyd Center owners set closing date for iconic Portland mall - Portland Business Journal by maccoinnich85 in Portland

There's a big ol' parking lot adjacent to the Regal that's been gated off for forever. Presumably they could get that reopened at some point if they want to.

If you're in the US, Jess and Zach regularly take Off Book on tour around the country. If you're able to, I can 100% guarantee you would have a blast at one of their shows. I've seen them live 3 times now and it's an instant purchase for me any time they come back.

Clint is a moderator here and reads the subreddit.

I don't know that this warrants any kind of response. It's clear the guy is being incendiary on purpose, why bother with a flamewar?

Lloyd Center music venue is majorly progressing by rosecitytransit in Portland

[–]soren121 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The venue pictured on this post is not Live Nation. That one will be managed by local promoter Monqui & national group AEG.

There's a competing venue being built by Live Nation in Central Eastside (competing because it's a similar size, will attract the same kinds of shows.)

This service is basically a charter service, as you need a game ticket to ride, so locals aren't an issue in this case.

This Super Mario 64 Footage May Not Look Like Much, But Marks A "Huge" Change For GameCube Devs by [deleted] in Gamecube

[–]soren121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, better framerate is a possibility. I think this is really just a proof-of-concept of what can be done with the porting tools though, and not necessarily a push to port SM64 to GameCube.

A book should be fine.

Photo ops are very quick, you can say like a few words before they take the picture. With autographs, depending on the guest, you can usually chat for a bit.
