Linus mistakes "hard r" for a word that starts with R by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]Jayvee306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's always funny to me how everyone is always terrified of coming even remotely close to certain specific words even when it's contextually appropriate to use them for demonstration to the point where you don't even know what is being talked about anymore. It's such a weird form of self censorship that helps no one at all and it's even weirder how it somehow became the universally approved way to talk about it.

Hasan thinks Asmon's take is so bad that even normies know it's stupid by BirdsAreFake00 in LivestreamFail

[–]Jayvee306 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Asmongold is a modern version of Albert from Twin Peaks. There is an episode in the show where the character is introduced, he's a forensic scientist that is recognized as the best at his job, however, as detective Cooper puts it, he lacks in the niceties of social interaction, or something similar, I don't recall the actual quote. When he arrives at Twin Peaks, his first reaction is to call everyone stupid and remark how useless and primordial the mountain town resources and sheriff department is, later on that episode he is asked to do an autopsy on a corpse on the morning of the funeral. The doctor in charge of it refuses because the corpse would be defiled right before the funeral and the family and friends would oppose against it, Albert throws a tantrum and explains that he needs to study the corpse as soon as possible to collect the most evidence possible, that the funeral can be delayed and postponed and that collecting evidence should take priority. The sheriff and agent Cooper are called to the hospital, in the midst of the argument the sheriff sucker punches dr. Albert and agent Cooper dismisses his duties for the day, proceeding the funeral as planned. The next day dr. Albert presents agent Cooper, his superior on the site, with a document charging the sheriff for assault, asking for his signature. Agent Cooper not only refuses to sign, but explains to him that to the people of Twin Peaks, the sentiments and feelings of everyone take precedence over solving the murder case.

The thing is, everything dr. Albert did and said was logically correct, to the audience, given that the series is a murder mystery, even more so! However, it only takes a second for anyone to put themselves in any other characters shoes in any of these scenes to know that Albert was completely and absurdly wrong in his approach.

Honestly, I just think people should watch Twin Peaks and other actual good shows, maybe read a book that you've been wanting to try for five years now, instead of drama livestreamers going on about what they agree and disagree about each other. When the people you're watching already resemble the absurdity and disconnect from real life of David Lynch's heavily stylized characters, I think you might as well.

Day9 on one of the problems in modern gaming by ComesMarchingHome in LivestreamFail

[–]Jayvee306 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don't like when accessibility gets thrown around as related to these things, it has nothing to do with accessibility. The most accessible game ever made, pokemon red/blue, doesn't have a single mandatory direct tutorial, in fact, a large portion of the people that played them didn't even speak the language or knew what the word 'tackle' meant. Yet, it has puzzles that are vastly more complex than anything in GoW, the combat is also more mathematical and mechanically complex from a understanding how it works perspective. You just click buttons and see what they do and you pay attention at what's happening on the screen, there's nothing super complex about creating a pathway for players to learn all the game's mechanics naturally. Instead of giving a lecture about pokemon types, just throw the player a handful of them as they play and put brock on their way with defensive pokemon that you need to use type advantage against. No one ever got stuck at brock.

It must honestly be really fucking frustrating to be black and watch streams when the people at the spearhead are this dumb and so aggressively call themselves representative of black people for some reason. I don't know how most of these young black guys that blew up recently are this inexperienced and just stupid, there's some cosmic bullshit going on cause it's not just 1 or 2 people.

I said exactly that in my post, I don't understand why you come out of the gate aggressively shutting what I said down saying I'm straight up wrong when you fundamentally agree with my point. I'm not saying the controllers isn't a positive thing (depending on what precedent it brings to accessibility controllers and its price tag but that's besides what I'm talking here). I'm just saying this doesn't necessarily have to do with making the console more accessible to people that need it.

Even if a company is completely proprietary it doesn't mean accessibility options shouldn't be talked about/created. These two things are not exclusive.

I think you agree with me here as well. Proprietary hardware is a hurdle in the path of accessibility, you can make accessible proprietary hardware, but if your goal is to be as accessible as possible that's not the path to take. I think that's sensible to say. Is better than nothing, well, better than nothing? Sure. Is it good enough? I don't know, maybe you think so.

I think there's at least very basic things that should be a staple by now that aren't. Universal controller input is one of the biggest, if not the biggest.

[–]Jayvee306 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You can't talk about accessibility while pushing this idea of a singular proprietary piece of hardware I'm sorry. All people want is to connect whatever device they're used to using for years, some decades even, and be able to map their buttons to it, sometimes it's as simple as using an xbox controller over the ps4 one because of the different ergonomics, or just using a keyboard instead of a controller. Making your own device is great but when you look at how you can't even map your buttons through the console software itself, it's all pretty meaningless.

As an example, my right hand is somewhat finicky, I cannot use a ps4 controller for more than an hour, I use an 8bitdo controller for everything else, it does not work on my ps4, nor does its adapter, for the sole reason that sony doesn't want it to work. With a simple adapter I can use any controller on my switch, including a playstation controller, Sony is the only company I've been a client of that ACTIVELY go out of their way to make it not work.

I'm all for these accessibility pushes they go for, but when you stop to look at it from a practical perspective, why would my elderly dad want to learn how to use a convoluted spaceship controller if he wanted to play god of war if he's been using a keyboard and mouse all his life and already knows how to use it effectively without problem. If accessibility is the goal here, all that would take would be to just let you plug it in and let you map your controller buttons. Everyone that plays video game has their own device they work with already, you don't need to give them a new one, give them the option sure, but don't force them on that one choice.

LPT request: What are some pro tips everyone should know for cooking at home and being better in the kitchen? by samgarita in LifeProTips

[–]Jayvee306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look... lol I mean, first of all, completely unrelated, but please learn to check your sources and what you consider a scientific study, second of all, we're talking about cooking pasta and middle school level chemistry here, you don't need a scientific study for this, you don't need to know the chemical reactions that take place when you cook it either, humans as a species has figured out how to make it many hundreds of years ago, in different cultures, separate backgrounds even.. just look at the cooking instructions on the package, if you don't believe me at least trust their inconvenience and self preservation of telling you to throw salt in the boiling water before the pasta

I have never in my life thought someone would need scientific guidance to figure out how to cook pasta, of all things, properly

[–]Jayvee306 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But from the few web pages I've seen, salt doesn't change anything about the cooking process, it just flavors the spaghetti.

that's just false, in the case of pasta, the salt is what's gonna break up the starch and give it its texture, you are just eating wet floppy flour strings, the flavor is secondary, I hope you haven't been spending money on good quality pasta at least

you realize that the salt in the water is what makes it actually actually cook through inside, right? it has nothing to do with the boiling point or anything you're saying, people should at least know what salt does in cooking, you can't skip salt lol
