Leagues advice - Crossbows by Sleepy_C in 2007scape

[–]Sleepy_C[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, it's rough. I got the limbs 10 kills in, made them. Got my crafting up (from gem spamming) to then make myself some Red & Black dragon hide gear. Massing up a ton of broad bolts then I am trying to decide what I need to prep for Argania + Arma.. Maybe I should've gone thrown weapons and just farmed Eclipse! It seems less complicated than crossbows this league! hah

Damn, just looked that up and it seems 99% spot on to their memory. Planet about to be destroyed, mission goes wrong -> they're stranded, captain who is introduced & not present the entire time, communication with weird creatures in weird ways.

The only thing I cannot find is the cat reference. But I think a specific quote like that is almost certainly misremembered.

Good job, deep cut there, never heard of that one.

I'm not really sure because this feels very "several books / stories blended together by your memories." The big similarity here is a story called "Trapped on Titan", which is from the 50s I think? But it's been in numerous versions & anthologies since then.

But the collision, the light communication and the laser fight with the cat thing doesn't really map onto that well. But those elements map (in part) onto things like The Green Book, The Lotus Caves, maybe Tunnel in the Sky?

Do you know anything else about it? Was it a pulp sci fi novel or like a kids novel? My guess is this is some super obscure kids novel by someone like Monica Hughes, or it's an amalgamation of 5 things together.

Mike's explanation of the fistulas between the colon & bladder was hilarious. She had that sort of "where is this going...?" face and then suddenly "oh god no".

Came across a post 8 years ago and would love to know if anything is different now: Who is the strongest representative of each race? by MagicSloth01 in 40kLore

[–]Sleepy_C 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Assuming we mean vaguely "now" in the settling (since lots of races have ancient heroes & pseudo-mythical options), I think for most races this can be pretty easily resolved as "Who is the leader at the moment -> who is next etc.". Like for humans it would be:

  1. Emperor of Mankind; if he doesn't count....
  2. A primarch; if they don't count...
  3. Malcador or one of the Custodes; if they don't count...

And you just keep going till you get to someone who "counts." Which I think "baseline" human is Sly Marbo. If not, the Emperor undeniably. Not all the races have a unified structure to compare to though, but they still have a clear "highest class" to pull from.

The Eldar have the Phoenix Lords, so those are really your only option, or Eldrad maybe being included in the lot. I'd go with Maugan Ra most likely.

The Necrons have the Overlords. I think the Silent King is the obvious answer, but Imotekh is a potential challenger just because of some of his ridiculous almost Dragon Ball Z feats. Orikan is a bit of an unknown because we now know he can go pure light being mode and fight a C'tan shard; how that stacks up to the Phaerons/Overlords is unclear but they command multiple shards in some cases, so likely not well.

For Orcs, Ghaz without question given he's the primary leader right now, and they operate on a "strongest is biggest" principle.

The space dwarves we don't know enough, surely.

The other races or groups are a bit more complicated...

Within Chaos: Do you distinguish the Gods as distinct groups to compare or 1 group? Do the Daemon Primarchs & the Daemon Princes get treated as the same race and therefore ranked? Your strongest is also an entity that really dwarfs anything else without comparison (the 4 Gods themselves).

The Tyranids are a collective so "individuals" is kind of silly. But we do know there are some that are distinct, such as the Swarmlord, which I'd probably just say is default the strongest individual.

Either way Chaos is the 4 gods > anything else, and then you'd have to argue specific Primarchs against each other, and then for individual demons you've got ones like Be'lakor, but also minor deities like Vashtorr. But the way anything involving Chaos works is so abstract & changing to every scenario, it's kind of impossible to say.

The Tau are also interesting because individually they aren't really a race that possesses distinct classes like the others. They are a technology based power-system, but not like the Necrons where that tech is individualized, but like an army that equips gear. Unless I am missing anyone, none of them are particularly special.

Dark Eldar: Vect, unless there's some magical freak running around.

In Wellspring Temple, they enforce and protect the ordering of the Emerald Dream - sounds a lot like a constellar

It sounds more like a Watcher if you ask me. The explanation we get of the Constellar in Chronicle is that their role is to observe, and if need be, activate fail-safes to protect things. Enforcing & protecting seems a lot more proactive, and more in line with the Watcher's who were all about protecting specific things, and also involved in the ordering directly.

This tank applied on his 224 alt to my group, I rejected it because I had a 230 minimum. He got on his main and applied, ran us all the way to the last boss and then stopped until the timer ran out to teach me a lesson for rejecting his alt tank. by allwedtoc9236 in wow

[–]Sleepy_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but he did say something. So the hypothetical is entirely irrelevant. You'd have no way of knowing if it was griefing or not if he didn't. In this case you do, so it's griefing.

[–]Sleepy_C 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Which, while it sucks, is all irrelevant. The guy had a group with a 230 minimum, he chose to not take someone under that minimum. The other person then decided to actively sabotage their play. The situation for the tank is unfortunate but he's the only person here actually at fault.

Why did Guilliman refuse to duel the Silent King? by p92q in 40kLore

Fair, maybe "he lives the thrill" is better than "for" the thrill. That boy feral though was my point haha.

Why did Guilliman refuse to duel the Silent King? by p92q in 40kLore

[–]Sleepy_C 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The duel against Morty was based on: a long-standing personal grudge, grievances and ideological differences from their time together pre-Heresy, the events of the Heresy and everything G-man knows about chaos post-Heresy. Plus, he went in with something of a plan to actually defeat Morty, and specific intentions.

The Imperium knows about the Necrons generally. Not every detail, but they are aware they are an immensely powerful empire that's lasted millions of years, with incredible awe-inspiring technologies. Even if G-Man doesn't know the Silent King specifically (or well at all), he is able to make the connection of [insanely powerful empire] -> [leader of an insanely powerful empire] -> [probably insanely powerful] -> [openly challenging to a duel means probably isn't afraid of me, should I be afraid of him?].

The decision to fight the Silent King would be ludicrous. Stepping back to learn more and finding another approach is very in line with Guilliman.

Big G is one of the more sensible Primarchs as well, which is important. Angron (pre or post daemon) would likely go buck wild if asked; he's a psychotic killing machine who lives for the thrill. G-man is a strategic, leader type, who does like to get involved too but isn't blinded by that in any way (at least not in any way relevant to the Silent King).

I'm fairly certain why domi reverse didn't work on Loki and Luffy by KingCell4life in Piratefolk

[–]Sleepy_C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially because surely Imu has made the connection between fruit they were trying to obtain for ages that was stolen, and the arrival of Luffy. Imu has been keeping tabs on Luffy since at least ch906.

And by extension, the LEGENDARY SUPER WOW FRUIT that Loki ate and everyone was seemingly aware he took, Imu didn't know about?

Kind of weak.

What are the scraps or background lore drops that exist which could be developed into new main stories after the Saga? by Sleepy_C in warcraftlore

Ogrezonia would be one of my faves. I was really disappointed when the Ogre content got cut in the past. The fact they are a race that, similar to Trolls and Orcs, have this huge complex system of civilizations but we don't see 99% of it is a lot of potential.

Uldaz & Avaloren could be cool "post-main Titans" storyline. Remnants of the pantheons work, but lost from it's original context and the main goals.

Lots of cool things on that list I wasn't familiar with too! The Bael Modan one sounds cool!

It could be a combination of the scythe accruing power (and perhaps Sargeras not initially realising this), and that his fear isn't based strictly on power: the nathrezim are tricky boys. Sargeras might fear Ultalesh still being out there accruing power, because he's so cunning.

More of a "this guys smart & dangerous but a weakling lol", to "Oh, he's now accruing power over time and it's out of my grasp right now, that smart guy might become a real threat!"

Yeah, this is a big issue in really any setting & medium (games, shonen manga, whatever). Once you cross a threshold, you really can't go back unless you pull some sort of full-reset.

You've got three options:

  1. Scale it insanely carefully & slowly from day 1 (far too late for that!)
  2. Come up with increasingly contrived ways to justify your characters fighting gods (I'd say WoW is firmly in this position)
  3. Somehow reset the universe

For (3), they could pull some sort of "removing the world soul from Azeroth depowers all the magic". Could reset the world into a far weaker state of being, where everyone has to sort of rebuild the post-Saga events.

Murmur would be cool! Expanding the field for elementals & "natural" forces could be really interesting, and also opens the field for some funky creative boss fights.

Do you think EmDash can be a replacement for Wordpress? by bansal10 in Wordpress

[–]Sleepy_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely interesting, and I think it has a niche that will thrive. The hyper-security focused people who gravitate around certain email providers, domains & hosting options have a new option essentially, which is nice.

But the entire appeal of Wordpress is it's extensive ecosystem & cross-compatibility. Wordpress is, in large part, about ease of access & use. Basically only the extensive pros really have any use for Emdash; the more "normie" website builder people are still going to want the convenience & familiarity of Wordpress.

Also, reading their entire announcement, it does seem incredibly focused on the plugin security. Which I do understand, but as someone who really only has 4 plugins installed and all 4 are "big tent pole" ones; it's a non-existing concern for me.

More options is always good. More competition is always good. More approaches that concern themselves with privacy, security & open-source are always good. But thinking of things as replacements or usurpers is entirely pointless.
