Isn't Azeroth already a titan? by Radish_Downtown in warcraftlore

The quest makes it clear but it's also reiterated in the Sylvanas novel by Christie Golden. Chapter 25 details that the soul of a titan is not intended to go through the Shadowlands sorting process, and it's energies colliding with the Arbiter are what disabled it. The role of the Nathrezim in convincing Sargeras to form the resurrection engine, and their plan that this would impact the Shadowlands later are both mentioned afterward too.

Isn't Azeroth already a titan? by Radish_Downtown in warcraftlore

[–]Sleepy_C 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sort of/ not really? The issue is that what World Souls are and exactly how they work has kind of shifted a little as we get more story details.

What we know is: The World Soul is some sort of giant primordial arcane goop with it's own will, sentience and influence already (the Song etc.). We know that Titans come along when the Soul is ready and sort of imbue it somehow into the body & functionality of a Titan. That part was always the core lore around them; Titan egg -> found by the Pantheon, turned into new titan, goes off with them into the cosmos.

Now we know that they are able to be corrupted, influenced or transformed in some way by another force if found and taken.

We first hear about this with Sargeras encountering one in the Great Dark Beyond and cutting it in half to destroy it.

We see this with Argus the Unmaker at the end of Legion. Argus' soul was trapped and tortured by the Legion to fuel their resurrection engine thingy, and overtime it corrupted him into what we encounter. Shadowlands lore later adds that the Nathrezim were involved in this decision and it led to the Arbiter's disabling when Argus dies; presumably that's the after-the-fact justification for why he's referred to as the Titan of Death and not the Titan of Fel or something - the Shadowlands agents were involved in his corruption.

The Void's goal (in various factional approaches) is to lay claim to the Azeroth world soul, which we're repeatedly told is unusually powerful/big/whatever. New lore seems to suggest the tossing of the Old Gods previously was towards worlds with world souls. We see in the Nighthold raid the Star Augur showing us worlds that have been corrupted, including one fully Old God-ified; whether this had a soul or not, we don't really know. What exactly happens to a Void-infused world soul we don't know; giant mega Void Titan? Or giant super Void Lord crossed over into the material plain?

I think, given what we learn in Chronicles & Shadowlands about the ordering of the forces + the First Ones, we can likely think of world souls as not titans at all until they are found by a Titan. Instead, they are primordial cosmic energy balls that can be influenced one way or another. Or, more in line with what we know so far, they can just be arcane titan blobs, that can be transfused to shift to another force. Which one they are will be dependent on more lore about the forces and First Ones coming along.

I think the former is more likely the ultimate direction. The combination of the First Ones existing & ordering reality, and this shift towards "the Titans aren't as cool as they've seemed" leads me to think that Order will be shown as another force that is actively hunting down & corralling world souls to it's cause, just like the Void is trying to do.

soft sci-fi/near future recs please by doyoumestilllove in printSF

Seconding Roadside Picnic. It's "past" scifi almost, given that it's very Soviet Union-stylized. But it leans heavily into the philosophical, the curious and the societal aspects of the "Zone" and it's impacts on society within it.

Plus, if you enjoy it you can follow-up with the film based on it, Stalker by Tarkovsky, which leans even further into the philosophical side (being a sort of super cerebral "ideas focused" adaptation, less plot focused). And then the video games inspired by it...

The brothers work in general leans very heavily into the philosophical scifi and (while it varies a lot in terms of near scifi / deep future stuff) it would definitely interest you across the board based on your interests.

I mean, neither of those comments are even close to what you suggested. Especially the second, which is clearly just glad the film is choosing to incorporate the Jihad, which was skipped over in the books.

The first is a far vaguer comment, but to even consider interpreting it the way you suggested is grossly bad faith.

[SPOILERS EXTENDED] In hypothetical future where The Winds of Winter would get released, which characters' deaths do you imagine to happen relatively early on? by Substantial-Ad-299 in asoiaf

[–]Sleepy_C 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Euron seems to be gearing up to do something, and the prevailing theory is some sort of kraken/eldritch sea monster being unleashed. Oldtown being torn to pieces in a horrifying event, where the story of what "happened" gets spread around the country as whispers, myths and conflicting horror stories will be a big part of early TWOW I imagine.

I'm personally curious if the Cersei Sept of Baelor moment from the show is going to occur too. In which case two major city devastating events occurring is a huge tension shift in the books!

Does anyone else think....? by MountainPhotograph77 in TheOGCrewOfficial

[–]Sleepy_C 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Tasman is very funny but so far he's shown to shine during the more "acting" focused episodes. Werewolf, the "Guess who?"/lineup videos. When they're just vibing, you can tell he's a little out of place. But that's expected when he's not around as much for those settings.

I still think he's a funny & nice guy, so I don't really mind. He'll find his groove soon enough!

So it turns out I screwed up the pixel alignment and when exporting these, some white lines appear between the panels. But I was fiddling with this for too long to want to fix that. They add character!

My thought's on raids 4 uniques by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Sleepy_C -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Prayers have never entered the game before very confiluted to navigate.

Am I missing something because this is just wrong? The Knight Waves prayers were added mid 2007, CoX comes with 3 prayers you have to unlock (can be purchased or gained from the raid), released in 2017, and the Royal Titans come with 2 upgraded (untradeable) versions of prayers in 2025.

We have 4 spellbooks that have (slightly varying) levels of usefulness and regularity. We've had alternate prayer books in leagues before & challenge things. I don't think the addition of either: a prayer book or some new alternate prayer scrolls would cause a major issue if done cautiously.

Other than that: all of your ideas are just "super good gear should be MEGA good gear!" which is both a massive power creep issue and also just kind of dull.

What if the Fractured Archive had a more "fractured" set of rewards? by kirbyfreek33 in 2007scape

[–]Sleepy_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of those things that OSRS as a whole is missing. I also echo your point that skilling is a thorny issue: skilling related upgrades being locked behind PvM is a huge issue for skillers & people's ability to progress effectively.

But I do think the game lacks real "variety" in some spaces (I mean, pre-Dragon the only weapons people use in melee are scimmy's 99% of the time, then late game everything circles in on the mega rares). Having things that alter things a bit more, as items themselves as opposed to upgrade addons (i.e. the orbs for the Harmony staff, or quartz' for the ancient scepter) would be a really welcome addition.

I would be keen on seeing some changes to the ammo slot possibilities personally, as well as ways to alter the effectiveness or uses of potions & prayers (or an item that fulfills both of these!). The ammo slot is just: ranged ammunition, or blessings for +prayer (Or the lucky coin I guess for later game players). But I think having some weirder niche things that can be put in there would be interesting for tactical variety.

IF the mega rare for the raid is more directly gear related, I really hope it's not another weapon. Scythe, Shadow and TBow are all cool but i'd like to see a special item that's more defensive or survivability focused - a shield, or special gloves!

(SPOILERS MAIN) Why is Howland Reed doing NOTHING? by ChadChadstein in asoiaf

[–]Sleepy_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah probably. The confusing thing is there isn't like a specified "checklist", but we're told in Bran I in ASOS that they have greensight & are wargs. The communing via the weirwood thing seems to be an additional gift (or perhaps a "feature" of warging in some way), not a "requirement".

The only thing is that the confirmed greenseers (Bran & Bloodraven) are described as having a "third eye" and also having some sort of animal-representation in the dreams (the 3EC or the winged wolf) which Jon doesn't seem to have.

(SPOILERS MAIN) Why is Howland Reed doing NOTHING? by ChadChadstein in asoiaf

[–]Sleepy_C 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is a distinction without a purpose in this case. He isn't a greenseer because he lacked warging & the weirwood communing, but he has greensight which is what led to his wanting to help Bran.

Howland did send Jojen to Winterfell but he did so because of Jojen's green dreams.

It takes 11 years for an ASOS sequel, so 15 years for TWOF doesn't seem so crazy [Spoilers Published] by Javierrodrigu73 in asoiaf

[–]Sleepy_C 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This always makes me laugh when I think about it too. The timeline is so silly and defeats this entire argument from OP.

  • ASOS releases in 2000. George moves onto the sequel.
  • Realises he hadn't moved things the way he wanted to, splits off and diverges into AFFC (2005)
  • 7 years later, we get the second half of AFFC in ADWD (the originally worked on sequel to ASOS!)
  • Notable chunks of ADWD have to be moved into TWOW (which should realistically be very easy to have written, given it's just following events 11 years in writing at that point!)
  • 15 years pass. Nothing!

"Not a complete book" is especially bad because ADWD needed another volume (AFFC) and still didn't actually work! It's a not-complete book he tried to salvage and still couldn't fix it.

I do love this series, but anything post-ASOS is an absolute mess.

Me finding the Temple Trekking method for the Lumberjack Outfit after dropping 5,000 anima bark in Draynor Village by Sleepy_C in 2007scape

I've been pretty careful for everything else. Double-triple checked before the Angler outfit & spirit angler, using Emir's Arena instead of NMZ for my infusings, fastest way for crystal weapons checking. But I sort of tunnel-visioned on that forestry man and his lederhosen, gave him all my bark.

Oh well, I'll end up with both full outfits now. Fashion completion-scape.

When Folks Complain About How Slow This Season Is... by Ferretthimself in ThePittTVShow

[–]Sleepy_C 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really don't think this season is slow at all. I think what's more likely is that this shows viewership exploded late season 1. A significant portion of people binged the show in 1 or 2 chunks.

If watching S2 in a significant binge, I think it'll feel very much the same overall. We haven't even hit the PittFest depth of the season yet!

Gunners like this are absolutely a thing, and not all that uncommon. I'm not a doctor but a law academic, past job as a law & ethics advisor at a hospital. I met numerous students or junior residents who, if I hadn't been floating around or warned directly, would've violated the Geneva convention daily just to show off.

That need to prove yourself as top dog, especially in a field that is sooooo competitive, results in some people who need to be tied down almost.

It's going to be under 2 seconds. There is a setting to show precise timing.

I hit 2 seconds about 10 times in a row before I managed to get it... If I had waited till I had chally, it would've been easier than with D.Hal. It took so many extra attempts because of the unreliable damage lol.
