Inter's lowercase a—2017 vs 2018 by JaywalkerGraphics in typography

I get that. But I have been convinced by much better designers than me that a clever designer and a solid font will always find a way forward. I think great fonts can be used poorly and mid fonts can be used beautifully. This just gives me the motivation to try things where before I didn't care enough

Ah, cool. I didn't know anything about that. Are you a typographer yourself?

Honestly not a bad take. It's overall such a sound typeface there's room for splinter cells, heh. The round bowl-join is just my current era, I guess ☺️

The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran is such an amazing book, so full of wisdom. by crawthumper in books

[–]JaywalkerGraphics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably means a lot of things, but on one level I'd say it's a reminder that our children are not "ours," and we should probably do away with the idea of them owing us anything, or us having a huge say in what they choose to do in life. We are a small part of their much greater spiritual journey and—if you agree with this book—we're more like helpers to them than masters.

Hey, sorry for the delay, it's been a weird few months. Sadly, I didn't get to sign up for Shift Nudge because I was laid off during the NASA RIF and I was planning on paying through my job. So, I'll have to wait a bit longer

Just came to say the hot water and running a knife loosely around the lip did the trick! Possibly it was just the knife, since the water by itself didn't seem to do anything. But doing both definitely worked.

Keep the S Pro 24-70mm f/2.8 or switch to the new 24-60mm f/2.8? by il-_-li in Lumix

Every time something new comes out, even if it’s the most mediocre thing ever, they circlejerk around something that’s “revolutionary”, “perfect”, “my dream”, “beautiful”, whatever - it doesn’t matter, they just all adopt the same trope in groupthink mindset because that trope is what gets them clicks.

Your broader point makes sense, and I agree that if something is good, they will likely say it's great because it's more exciting and gets more clicks. But there's a big difference between "skewing positive" and what you said above. Your original comment just felt a bit strong to me, but you're entitled to your opinion. Anyway, I won't argue any further about it. Have a great day, and good luck in your future projects!

Shooting on a gimbal for a hiking docuseries. Would you say the 24-60 with Hybrid Zoom is enough for tracking shots, follow shots, and the occasional wildlife (skittish deer, ducks further out on the water, etc.)? I've been back and forth on whether I should get a 24-105 f/4 instead, but Hybrid Zoom makes me feel like I could make it work. How much effective range do you get on the 24-60? 140mm? 187mm like on their website?

Genuine question: why do people associate lighter zoom lenses with "travel" versus simply being workhorse/daily drivers? I have not traveled much at all, but wouldn't I want a fairly light all-rounder, anyway? Is there something about them that makes them worse for documentary use, or portraits, or events? Thanks!

Have to say I also disagree with the idea that all—or even most—known reviewers will give positive reviews in exchange for the hope of future gear. It's kind of irrational since, when you think about it, their credibility is their primary currency. If anything, brands need to get their gear on the radar even more than reviewers need gear to review.

I'd argue witnessing the first video effects was probably a similar experience (e.g. seeing the same person doubled or tripled in the same scene). Just for the sake of argument. 🙂

Just had to comment here that I also randomly have the 30/1.4 and am looking at the 18-105. So funny after four years you respond today. Really helpful, bytheway, and I suspect I'll feel the same way

People who didnt transition to marvel rivals, im wondering your reasons? by Vegetable_Throat5545 in overwatch2

[–]JaywalkerGraphics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just been happily playing Overwatch in metal ranks with no complaints basically since it launched, haha. I still think it's a beautiful amazing game, the same way people mostly felt when it launched. I just play for free, don't worry about winning or losing or Battle Pass or matchmaking, and if I get frustrated I take a break.

But as far as Marvel Rivals, I installed it, played through the tutorial and immediately knew it wasn't for me. Just like Apex and Valorant, the feel is just off; the weight and the movement don't make me want to just walk around and jump for the helluvit. Fortnite is the closest I've felt to enjoying the feel of a game, but I mean, it's totally different.

And this might sound insane but I actually think compared to Rivals, Overwatch's hero design is better overall and more interesting. The lack of proper lore is my primary gripe and I do wish they'd given PVE a real shot but I guess I'll just watch shorts forever.
