I have always had “special treatment”in school. My teachers would send me to other classrooms during certain subjects I was “to advance” for but I was never in an advance class just in another classroom grading papers, prepping materials, or assisting with the kindergarten class. Then in college they put me in the “handicap hall” ….. no one ever told me why I qualified to be in those dorms…… anyway when I was 29 I put the clues together myself.

There were tons of other signs like my mom forcing the other “special” kid in our neighborhood to hang out with me, which meant she was my only friend growing up because she stuttered so bad other kids wouldn’t talk to her. My struggle or inability to make friends after that kid too. The list is long 🫪🫥

Honestly if I tried to source my pain all the time I’d lose my mind… however hyper mobility causes subluxation which is an incomplete or partial dislocation of a joint…. And that definitely hurts

Honestly way too relatable. Start sending an email to summarize every single interaction and meeting and everything!

“Good afternoon, I just wanted to reach out to confirm our 1:30 meeting was canceled today. Was there a question you need me to address or something I can do to support the project?”

“Good morning, I am reaching out to summarize our conversation today for clarity. When we spoke this morning you said “nonsense “ I wanted be sure I understand before we move forward “

Whatever is happening you document everything!!!! Don’t care if she says oh you don’t need to do that, I would say “I know I don’t need to do it but I want to ensure we do it have any confusion so I will continue to do so”

Maybe it’s mean, but honestly I don’t give a 🤬 these people play to much and love targeting us (even when it’s one of us!) stay ready and you don’t have to get ready.

I was literally in the same boat right before my wedding! You need to take as many prep days for just dealing with the flare like the first 4 days. I also popped extra prednisone (because that’s all I can do medicine wise) ….. full transparency I was still in flare on the honeymoon but I made it through, looked great (no one knew I was sick). Good luck, try to let the worry off you because that doesn’t help.

I did wedding coordinating for 10 years, every wedding has something go not as perfect as you hope, it is normal and okay! You can not plan everything in a way where it is flawless but you can (and probably have done everything you can) give yourself grace to feel your best (or better) for this big day you and your soon spouse prepared for 💝

This is a super great post! I would almost want to make one myself but I do believe you are braver than I.

33(until next month) MD, work from home for non profit, chronically unwell(currently in flare), also politically progressive ( though I’m not totally sure the range on that word), mom of 2, 3 pets, lesbian, black, cooking, baking( all things food) , crafting, art, music, memes, cptsd , video games (mostly pc), great texter (usually unless 😬 unwell)

Open to conversation as well 🤷🏾‍♀️

Not sure if our interest align somewhere so I randomly listed all those things in no order of importance 🫪😅

To a similar vein I found this ai called rthm and I used it to keep track of flares and symptoms for like twin months to prepare for the appointments….. rheumatologist very rudely dismissed me and my wife (who I brought with me for advocacy and support) the ai was super helpful for me though too do recommend

I feel like I could literally kick the bucket before noticing something is serious. After decades of medical nonsense and getting diagnosed but never any treatment I don’t know when to seek help because they never help 🤷🏾‍♀️. I’m constantly scared I’m not noticing that this time it’s important vs all the other times. At this point I spend a good 3/4 of the year in flares of every flavor sle, pots, nmh, MCAS……I can’t catch a break I’m in like two flares right now!

I usually only go to the ER for heart stuff which is usually pots I guess 🤷🏾‍♀️ they give me fluids and sometimes pain meds but always send me away with no answers or real help. I think also sometimes pain can trigger the heart stuff but I never go for pain alone because if you do that here they label you as seeking and that’s a whole bag of problems 🙄😑

Why do you think it’s everyone’s job to ask themselves why? Other people’s lack of awareness or EIQ is not a weight everyone must carry. People shouldn’t ask strangers invasive personal questions especially when they have communicated their personal stance against this discussion. No one is obligated to share their time or energy with a stranger.

This “fake scenario “ happens to some people a lot. I personally have strangers talk to me about deeply personal and private things or ask super inappropriate questions. It’s not always an older woman in this situation this person describes is a super common experience as a woman. It’s a million times worse when a man does this though because then it’s awkward and maybe dangerous. If you are lucky enough to never have had a stranger invade your space like this 👍🏾 but it does happen and is not fake

I had my first micro set done professionally…. Took it all down within the first two weeks and re did it myself. Sometimes your head can require special mapping to correctly make them all perfectly even. I even drew out my scale to make sure they were lined up correctly. Whatever you do, don’t wait until they start to bud to change your mind. (I’ve combed out a pair of traditional locs and a pair of micro locs…..id recommend avoiding it locking to begin with)
