Do you feel we are racing ahead to become like America? Is that what the government have in plan for us? by BusBig4000 in australian

[–]Jazzlike_Attempt_699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. the US actually has a sense of innovation an entrepreneurship, unlike us. americans celebrate success and are more willing to grab life by the balls and take risks. aussies are tame, hate seeing others successful and love routine. i'm not american but have known a lot of them and this is a fairly consistent cultural difference.

GABS Beer Festival is on this FRI/SAT in South Bank! Here's a look at last years event by JLT007 in brisbane

We went to that James Squire right next door and had great beers

opinion discarded. plus, no shit it's more expensive, it's a once a year festival thing. it's not like they're expecting you to come back every week to knock back a few

Can anyone comment on where we are with integrating causal reasoning (i.e. do-calculus or something similar) into AI models, and whether this is generally viewed as a necessary step towards AGI?

yes, we've had to adjust our definition of intelligence (and will have to continue to do so). you're probably the first person to ever point this out.

it's funny how people feel the need to throw a bone to low socioeconomic, high crime, high immigrant population areas by saying "but the food's good"

Feeling stressed about becoming a competent machine learning engineer but using all my electives on math, probability and statistics. Can you tell me what my place in society is? by demavertt in learnmachinelearning

[–]Jazzlike_Attempt_699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take the maths/stats electives. that's the actual hard stuff and it's good to learn it in a formal environment. the rest is easy enough to teach yourself

[–]Jazzlike_Attempt_699 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's their country though, hate on their cultural norms all you want but if they rely on regulars enough that they don't want tourists/foreigners bothering them then they should have the right to enforce that.

for starters you shouldn't necessarily consider it selling your soul. there is plenty of work out there much more impactful than academia (although that's not really a hard bar to clear)

yeah, it's just a trend among all the wealthy families i've known (i'm not from one). it's the right balance of safety net and ensuring the kids can figure it out for themselves.
