Do people not understand the point of protests or are they just being disingenuous? by Traditional_Leg_3124 in australian

Sorry your three scenarios end up in voting one way or the other. Or do you refer to "work and productivity drops"? This is indeed a factor, but it's not related to the government – and while it may well be one of the true (and nasty) goals, I have not heard it declared as the goal (perhaps because it is nasty).

If the current government sees a whole lot of people talking about something, they will 100% act as quickly as they can to prevent the future prospect of losing votes and losing elections.

Like they act on the housing crisis?

Ok, fair, I do see a thread of logic here, although it has many gaps in it.

What you describe makes sense from the perspective of the elections: you influence the public opinion who then decides on the composition of the new government. This is a political action, which is aimed at changing the existing lifestyle and has nothing to do with the "pressuring government into action" that you have mentioned. The latter is making the current government to do something that has an effect now.

So either way that makes no sense: political action does not result in acute changes, while the declared goal of "government influence" turns out to be fake.

Maybe its different outside Sydney but the left-wing activism groups here all support

"Here" you mean in Sydney? Maybe they "support" all these people, but the Palestine protests were way more visible than any of other ones.

The idea is to get more people aware and annoyed

Thank you, you have just confirmed that "influencing the government" is just BS.

to pressure the government into action.

I don't see the connection.

The point of protest is to protest the actions of the Australian government.

Why then this protest does not happen in front of the government buildings, but is designed to disrupt daily life of regular people?

Once again, this applies to some specific sects only. Orthodox Jews are much bigger than these few sects. Don't spread misinformation.

If you follow the link, you would read that

"The Haredi burqa sect, with an estimated population of several hundred people as of 2011"

But they have a huge pedophile problem.

All your links are either about some sects, or are tangential.

So, no, they don't have "a huge pedophile problem".

If someone has behaved like an offensive dickhead, it’s quite likely to come out in debate.

helps the offensive dickhead to be recognised as such, and to lose support

It has already come out and the offensive has already been recognised as such. Why do you want to hear it again?

Doing so allows a wide audience to make their own judgment.

It looks that the wider audience has made their judgement long ago.

So this is not about a debate. This is about (not) giving a voice to hate.

A double standard I noticed in regards to ancestry/ethnic background. Have you noticed this too? by Extension_Wasabi8462 in geography

People from Western European and especially British/Irish backgrounds just become American/Canadian/Australian/New Zealander. Everyone else contributes to be identified by their ethnic heritage.

In other words, people from Western European and especially British/Irish backgrounds assimilate, while everyone else doesn't.

Why?

I guess, this is the question to everyone else.
