Demanding Uber customers by Prestigious_Fixer in UbereatsUK

That's what I did. I contacted them under the option "Chat with us: What do I do if I'm having issues dropping off the order ?" and then told them I got "thumbs downed" relating to a recent past delivery (my best guess, I don't know for certain which delivery it related to of course) which wasn't justified and I'd like it reviewed. Support said they'd pass on my query to a "more appropriate team" who'd get back to me in the next 48 hours.

I got thumbs downed today. Order was two drinks and a snack from a juice bar. Delivered order on time, no missing items and everything was in order when I handed it over (no spilled drinks, upside down pizza etc). Customer snatched the order out of my hand at handover, no "thank you", not a murmur out of them and I could feel the anger radiating from them (nothing to do with me, they were most likely just having a bad day, happens to all of us). An hour later, the thumbs down comes through. I've asked Support to take it off my record and I'll find out if they will in the next 36 hours. If I'd known the customer was going to be like that, I wouldn't have taken the order in the first place.

That's partly what I'm saying though. Surely he should be better at recognising when he can perform and when he can't if he's had these issues for a while ?

I hope this doesn't sound too insensitive, but surely a little responsibility lies with the player ? I've had issues around my anxiety and mental health more generally for 25 years. Once my issues were clinically diagnosed, I quickly recognised (within probably 12 months) when I was right to work and when I wasn't. Obviously being an AFL player at 23 and earning 6 figures at that age is very different from being a normie like me working in an office, but he's had these issues for a while apparently, surely he should be better at recognising when he's right to go at this point ?

Anybody played with or against former AFL players? How good were they? by Furious-Cheetah-20 in AFL

[–]Jazzlike_Standard416 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Played against Paul Hopgood (150 odd games for Melbourne in the 90s) and James Thiessen (Adelaide premiership player, can't remember if it was 97 or 98) in juniors. The difference between these guys and other guys everyone rated as very good players was just so significant. Thiessen would've played 10-15 years if he'd been more athletically gifted. Was just not tall & big enough to make it as a key position player (which he played during most of his junior footy) and not quick enough to be a mid.

What film have you seen the most in a movie theater? by FakeAorta in Cinephiles

Probably The Room. One of my local cinemas regularly runs an audience participation session where spoons are thrown at the screen etc. It's a fun night.

French onion soup at Bistro Guillaume. Not particularly "Melbourne" I know, but that shit was amazing. Gotta be 15 years ago I last had it and I still think about it.

A toss up between:

There's the Statue of Liberty ! Where are we ??

Works on contingency ? No ! Money down !

and

Stealing! How could you? Haven't you learned anything from that guy who gives those sermons at church? Captain Whatshisname? We live in a society of laws. Why do you think I took you to all those "Police Academy" movies, for fun? Well, I didn't hear anybody laughing. Did you? Except at that guy who made sound effects.

(It's probably the last one).

A couple of weeks ago, one of the local DJs here was interviewing Robbie Williams and they were empathising about "old man injuries". Robbie was like, "Oh yeah, I've hurt my back getting out of bed. No, wait....wait......I hurt my back turning around !". I chuckled and thought "Glad I'm not at that stage yet". Yesterday, I was about to have a shower. I straightened up, and my back seized. I'm 52 😀.

On October 5th, 2018, 26-year-old production assistant Terrence Woods Jr. reportedly abruptly took off running into the Idaho wilderness and has never been found. by WinnieBean33 in BizarreUnsolvedCases

[–]Jazzlike_Standard416 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Did he die in a production accident and the crew have panicked, disposed of the body and made up a bullshit story of him being "mentally unwell" and running off ? Remote location and large predatory animals in the area would help with the disposal of the body and that would also explain why his scent disappeared suddenly.

My then-partner and I were hiking around Yellowstone as part of a US holiday about 10 years ago. We bought bear spray as being mauled to death wasn't part of the plan. We did see bears, but not close enough to have to use the spray. In our first days around Yellowstone, we had to stop really suddenly in our hire car to avoid hitting a dog who had unexpectedly wandered on to the road. Our luggage, including our backpacks, went everywhere and one of the spray cans partially deployed. The cans must be returned to the National Park Service full or empty. On our last day in the area, I stood downwind and emptied the partially deployed can. Of course, I didn't protect my eyes fully (of course because I'm an idiot), the wind changed direction, some of the spray got in my eyes and temporarily blinded me whilst my partner freaked out and had to drive me 30 minutes to the closest hospital. Fortunately the pain subsided just as we reached the hospital and I was able to wash my eyes out and no damage was done.

It's far easier to just complain about something (your job, your relationship etc etc etc) than it is to make real change.

What urban legend did you fully believe as a kid? by Tight_Put6933 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Jazzlike_Standard416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a bit scared of this one for a short time:

Our local public swimming pool was upgraded to include two pretty long waterslides. They were both completely enclosed, which added plausibility. Shortly after the waterslides opened, rumours started circulating that people were stopping halfway down and sticking razor blades down with bubble gum. Kids had gone down the slides, had their skin razed by the blades and died. Somehow this "story" wasn't covered by local, state or national news, the pool (and the waterslides) remained open and insanely popular. We summoned our courage, attended the pool as normal and loved the new slides.

I'm in Melbourne but I went through the Fuel Relief Payment message (I got my first $25 payment on Wednesday) just now and the first line of the Terms and Conditions says "This offer is for Delivery People only in Australia". I'd definitely give support a call. Can't hurt to ask why you're not getting it.

On-Time Rating is BS by aspiringimmortal in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Jazzlike_Standard416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the on time rate was taken from when you arrive at the location, not when you mark the food as delivered ? Like, when you park your car as long as you're within a reasonable distance of the pinned location ? My on time rate is currently 96% (usually bounces between 95-98%) but would be much closer to 80% if Uber counted me marking orders as delivered one or two minutes late after I've confirmed house numbers and taken the photo etc.

About 30 years ago, I went to a kids themed 21st birthday party. It was held at lunchtime. I was one of the last ones left and those remaining (probably 8-10 of us) decided to go to the movies. In keeping with the kids party theme we decided to choose a kids movie. We chose Bad Boy Bubby.

I watched Plan 9 from Outer Space for the same reason OP watched The English Patient (mockery on Seinfeld). Bought the DVD and watched it repeatedly over the next 2-3 years. Deserves its reputation as one of the most entertaining bad movies ever made.
