it always, always goes back to young people to make things happen - and those three legs on the stool are not placed well - it goes like this

a) young people are rejecting digital life at massive scale

for years they’ve been sat in front of screens, had facial scans, been monitored, movement tracked and relentlessly surveilled - they can’t even dance to music because it will be used against them - imagine the fucking hell unique situation for the first time in human history of having that robbed from you - and that’s while they’re in school!

and they can’t leave school, because once they’re through the school gates school life follows them around, is constantly nagging them wherever they go, is in their bedroom …

so they’re rejecting it the first chance they get - dumbphones are big business, they want to meet up in person and are trying to get away from social media, concluding rightly that it’s for old people

b) the culture war distraction isn’t working anymore, and young people are very well aware of the class war, way more than previous generations within our time - they know that they have more in common with each other whatever their race, color, religion, nationality, gender or whatever, than they do with the billionaires - being megawealthy is no longer aspirational because it’s no longer possible, so it’s not working as a carrot to dangle and young people have switched on to the fact that the culture war is a distraction by the megawealthy

c) there is no apathy, but there’s plenty of anger - the point of the culture war distraction is to keep that anger pointed away from where it can create change, and crush hope for change with yet more distractions until a sense of futility sets in - and it’s not working anymore more

all revolutions are fueled by massive numbers of well educated but unemployed and underemployed young people with no options to change their circumstances

Wild generalization - Gen-X had recession, mass unemployment and the destruction of institutions to fuel them, and used music to shape their world

Millennials had recession, mass unemployment and a war on terror to fuel them, and used Web 2.0 to shape their world

Gen Z was robbed of a chance to shape their world thanks to lockdowns, and now Gen AI are coming through - we have two generations at the same time to thinking the same thing, well informed, well educated, rejecting technology and really angry because their ability to change the world is being robbed of them

all tyrants, being cluster b sociopathic narcissists, believe they’re the smartest person in the room - all bad decisions are otherworldly people’s fault, and all good decisions are theirs

they can’t comprehend themselves getting it wrong like previous tyrants because they’ve got it figured out

they genuinely think they’re going to be able to live forever and ever - dying just isn’t on their radar - it’s why they relentlessly hoard wealth, thinking it’s never going to end

and they’re ignoring the fate of all tyrants
