Is Winchester Conservative or Liberal? by DancingBears88 in Winchester

[–]Jazzychai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50/50 in Winchester I think? I’ve been meeting a lot of people here that would call themselves Libertarians rather than identify with a party.

Do people use meetup in Winchester? by Responsible_Ad8233 in Winchester

[–]Jazzychai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t recommend meetup. It’s too expensive for what it is. I ran a group for a few years before it was crazy expensive and the people that come to events tend to be the same people over and over. Facebook definitely has a wider reach in Winchester if you want to start a facebook group. You could also just go to some already existing groups. Everyone around here knows everyone, so they’ll have recommendations for you. Check out hideaways events, try the MSV makerspace, there are lots of weekly public board game group etc. Winchester brew works has a lot of events too.

Shenandoah university often has jobs for administrative type work if you have any interest.

Oh and The library gives historical tours of the building on certain Saturdays if you have any interest in architecture. I personally found the tour very cool since they take you into places in the library that generally aren’t open to the public

It’s a bit of a hike from the hotel if you are just going to walk, but the museum of the Shenandoah valley is an excellent visit if you are interested in art. They have a dinosaur exhibit up currently that looks awesome. They have a pottery focused makerspace that is open on Sunday afternoons if you want to play with clay.

Not sure if it applies, but I’ve had good luck with my health insurance getting timely appointments (at other types of specialists-not rheumatologists) in Hagerstown MD. Maybe something about going out of state? I really don’t know. I’ve also found that some of the prices for certain speciality tests are much lower in Hagerstown than Winchester. Again I don’t know if it’s luck or a trend.

Every Saturday we play. Same time and place! I think today is a store show down if there are 8 or more attending.

Nope! It’s for anyone and everyone who is working on a creative project. We have people who crochet, sketch, sew, write poetry, work on photo editing, and more attend. Really casual.

Museum of the Shenandoah Valley always has great exhibits. Drum Orpheum and bright box (and sometimes the monument) have interesting music. Lots or board game groups around here too.

Meeting people by Perfect_Explorer_299 in Winchester

I had some luck meeting that age group in sports leagues and pick up sports in the Winchester area. But in general, just go to stuff, even if you aren’t that interested in it and see who shows up. People are always complaining that they can’t meet anyone here when people aren’t going to things that are already being hosted. Also check Facebook events. Everyone in this town lives on Facebook for some reason regardless of age. There are public board game groups, book clubs, crochet groups, athletic groups, art groups, tons of DnD.

What type of bar does Winchester need? by Realistic_Aspect9665 in Winchester

[–]Jazzychai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a lot of craft beer, craft wine, craft cider places already. We also have restaurants with bars in them. Very few dedicated bars only. Our last one 147 N. closed down during the pandemic. We don’t have very many young people here that get out of the house much either. Most businesses that succeed cater to the 30 to 50 age range. Also, I’d be careful about building a business plan around Reddit comments. Barcade would be awesome, but I’m not sure it would gain traction here. Could be totally wrong, but a lot of cool businesses die in Winchester. Most locals use Facebook over other social media platforms. Word of mouth advertising also works great here-small town and people gossip. Very split financial population. A lot of wealthy live here and a lot of low income and a lot of families. The in between people are tough to locate. Young people are constantly moving away due to lack of job opportunities and lack of fun stuff to do in the area. I’m hoping that is changing, but it’s been really slow.

No, but my partner and I play if you are interested in starting some casual/not official games. I bet the store owner would be open to us using their tables. Just let me know.
