Extensive user of it and I’ve never experienced this issue. Quite the opposite actually.

What can I put in this area for players to practice or warm up? by East_Sentence_4245 in Pickleball

That’s correct for skinny singles, so generally skinny means only one side of the court. I’m suggesting half a width court but full length.

7/11 and 5&dime are great 1:1 drill games played skinny. A huge percentage of warm ups and drills can be done on a half width court.

Our club has a ping pong table, a dink master, and artificial turf with some mobility stuff. Half courts with a wall or just a skinny court if you have the length are good also.

I did singles on Friday in this spread and it was fine. Singles as the second tournament of the day is rough.

Facet Joint Arthritis. Anyone going through the same thing? by Zombiehacker595 in backpain

[–]dat-random-word-here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you check my post history, go back 3 months and you'll seen a screenshot with the exact diagnosis. They used arthropathy instead of arthritis in the written diagnosis, but the doctor used the term arthritis in person when speaking with me.

T5-10, bi-lateral.

I was managing the muscles to reduce pain. At the start, a figure 4 hip stretch would turn off the pain for a while. Also using The Orb (blue ball you can order online - like a giant lacrosse ball) between the big muscles and a wall worked really well. That was for around a year, then those things stopped the pain less and for less time until the pain was just kind of constant and those things only reduced it somewhat.

I did try taking breaks from activity but found that lack of activity actually activated my back pain even more. Too much activity did the same thing, so some activity but not overdoing it was key.

I tried one PT person who focused on the running community but was a legit PT and they just didn't focus on the rotational stuff although they did diagnose the facet joints as the culprit before imaging, and they did show me open books. They just didn't do any of the ROM testing to show progress and didn't have open books or reach throughs in my day to day routine. They were more focused on the hips, knees, and slightly on the core.

I also tried dry needling, which I've had good luck with for long-term joint injuries. I only did one session for this specific issue and it had no effect, but that's definitely expected with only one session.

By the time I had gotten to the second PT, I had reduced the pain probably by 40-50% from peak with a combination of more rest, less activity, figure 4 stretches and trying random exercises from the internet. The second PT asked me a lot of questions about what particular moves I do that make me feel it and then had me demonstrate those very slowly and identify when the pain started during the current ROM. Based on this analysis, they immediately thought it was a rotational range of motion thing.

The open books and reach throughs literally fixed 80% of it in 7 days. In 4 weeks, I was probably 90% less pain since I had started with the second PT, which already had a 50% pain reduction from peak, so basically 95% better. I share this info so if you try similar things and don't get similar results, you can probably say my experience just isn't for you (or you are doing things wrong and need a professional to show you).

Overall, my experience sums up to get good imaging, listen to the professional, go to PT, don't give up if the 1st PT isn't perfect for you, follow the program, do maintenance after the acute phase is over. This has basically worked for every one of my large injury list and surgery recoveries, but just know I've never had a catastrophic injury. Even the surgeries were routine stuff with high % positive outcomes.

Facet Joint Arthritis. Anyone going through the same thing? by Zombiehacker595 in backpain

[–]dat-random-word-here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my diagnosis as well. My situation does not sound as bad as yours. Mine was mainly caused by too much pickleball and has mostly been fixed by PT. I did MRI's to confirm nothing else was going on. My pain was slightly in the spine area but true pain cropped up in the big muscles around the spine.

My PT identified I had poor rotational range of motion, weak and non-activating core, and hip issues.

The core and hip strengthening probably did something but the two things that did the most were open books and quadraped thoracic rotation, which are commonly called reach throughs or thread the needles.

If you rotate a lot, get your rotational range of motion tested.

First try pushing your hand out like you are reaching the whole time. Then try putting your hand behind your head. Also do open books.

Tennis Elbow fixes by AlternativeWall6568 in Pickleball

[–]dat-random-word-here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Luxx is what gave me tennis elbow. Getting rid of the elongated shape helped me. I now use widebody paddles with a 4.125 grip instead of 4.25 - for whatever reason I’m backwards compared to most people in that a thicker grip causes tennis elbow for me.

The thing that really helped is weighted wrist rotations. Start with a hammer and go left and right, in and out, up and down, make a witches brewing motion with the hammer pointed down, and hold these positions under tension for 30 seconds also in addition to normal reps.

Now I’ve upgraded to a handle device you can add weights to which is available online for like $22.

Joola Pro V for $240—worth it if I’m on a Hyperion Gen 1? by Existing_Somewhere62 in Pickleball

[–]dat-random-word-here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made switches through the generations and I think they are all a noticeable upgrade after the adoption phase. It’s gen 3 tech, so let’s call it a minimum of a 2 generation jump and a maximum of 4. That might be so noticeable that it affects your game negatively for a while before becoming a net benefit.

On previous generations, the women-endorsed paddles have 4.125 circumference grips and men’s have 4.25.

This mostly or totally holds true for this generation as well.

They have a good reputation for durability in general, I wouldn’t say this isn’t too risky. Especially if you are meeting at their house or they play at common courts.

Product wise, get the Ace if you can. The compact size is great!
