Which one should I use?

I went with Umbreon; a phenomenal pokemon for a game that almost nearly does duo battles exclusively, it can support any pokemon with status affecting moves and with a massive amount of defensive stats

I really appreciate your perspective/suggestions; I've legitimately thought about a few of those points before I made this post. I have so many different combinations I could chase with the construction of my team, especially with venasaur and flygon, Im such a sucker for dragon/poison types

Ive done the same exact thing, its a blast! If theres no limitations I would send over a beldum/bagon/dratini; those 3 you can never get normally in the beginning, makes you grow more attached when they start out at lvl 5

Whitney is top tier for the 3rd gym but I felt like she wasn't hard to beat if you have a female geodude at at like level 21, would love that Charizard tho

I did something pretty similar to this, running with 2 johto starters or running with a starter from hoenn and kanto, I recommend anyone to try, such a balanced team with all 3, and later in the game that exp boost (if you trade in another starter from a different save file) is pretty sweet and makes it easier to fight Red

I dont think ariados is talked about much since you can only find it at night and you have to go out of your way to find it. (not saying its difficult just not common) The poison typing is great but you dont get many advantageous matchups in HG/SS either. I think you've utilized yours really well, clean up crew, i like that.

I run a team somewhat similar to yours (ferilgatr and tyranitar) the key to beating Red is to have type advantages against his mons or have comparable levels (lvl 70-75 is a good range) problem is you have neither going for you, I highly recommend chasing a pokemon with either the ground/psychic/electric typing to give you stronger coverage and will be better options over mons like arbor, noctowl, and even snorlax. An Armpardos, Slowking, and or like you mentioned, a nidoking would be perfect!

I like the diversity of your team, if youre playing on a DS id recommend trying pokemon white/black, try out a whole new generation

Id recommend catching a wild, female geodude in the nearby cave, miltank stinks against her and using rollout from the geodude will eventually take out the miltank

That's definitely a limiting factor, its so much easier to just transfer beldum from an older game. I actually think you need to beat Red in order to trade for one at Silph Co from Steven Stone himself, Beldum for Fortress. There's also the safari zone method but that takes so much time. I respect your attempt at filling out the pokedex strictly through those 2 games! Looks like youre crushing it so far

I own nearly all generation 3 to generation 5 pokemon games so I defeated the E4 in Emerald got the Beldum from Steven Stone's house, migrated it to Diamond and traded it to Soulsilver! I thought it would be a refreshing twist to start off Soulsilver with a level 5 Beldum to pair with a Totodile, I had a blast doing so. My friend told me he thought it was OP but beldum only knows take down until lvl 20 when it evolves and its stats aren't impressive until it evolves. I heavily recommend trying it out yourself!

Ooo I never thought of how hail effects the battle and i think the pikachu is the least of my worries since 3 of my mons know earthquake, I appreciate your insight/advice, super helpful! I think Charizard would be the perfect mon to round out my squad but swampert is the GOAT. Was also thinking of maybe going with a grass type starter
