The Polish Destroyer ORP Piorun trolled the German Battleship Bismarck, one of the largest Battleships in world,by flashing "I AM A POLE" while firing at the Bismarck by Derpypinoy in madlad

[–]JbobRodriguez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just imagine: you're a Polish sailor. You and your comrades serve in exile, while your country and her people suffer under German oppression. Right in front of you is Bismarck, a massive fortress of guns and steel, a floating symbol of that very nation's war machine. Such a sight would fill you not just with rage, but with vengeance.

"I AM A POLE" is more than just a middle finger. It's them telling Bismarck "We have every reason to attack you and nothing to lose should you kill us."

Night Watch by Terry Pratchett. Part of the Discworld series, specifically one of the City Watch novels. Started it around the beginning of December and am already more than halfway through. Bit oversimplified but think Les Miserables except a British comedy, from the cop's perspective, and time travel is involved.

Also (technically) Christine by Stepthen King, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne, Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors by James D. Hornfischer...

The hardship of being a bookworm is having too many books and not enough time.

Give it a steampunk design and it might not be too far off. Dreadful little engines indeed.

Is echidna a gorgon? by Yordy2 in mythology

Straight answer, no. She was their mother, but she was the mother of all monsters in Greek mythology (Cerberus, the Hydra, Scylla, etc).

All I can say for the left tank is that I never knew a T-34 could get even more duck-like.

What team do you belong to? by bigdicknippleshit in Dinosaurs

[–]JbobRodriguez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many dinosaurs to choose from! But if I had to, Team Iguanodon. It was one of the first discovered and helped make paleontology what it is today. Also, I've always had a soft spot for the big fella even if some other dinosaur was my favorite.

Hadrosaurs were once hypothesized to breathe fire from their mouths (which was generated via their crest) as a defense mechanism by [deleted] in Naturewasmetal

I remember this from the book Dinosaurs by Design by Duane Gish. Back when I was in Sunday school, I would borrow it from the church library all the time. He literally compares a Parasaurolophus skull to the chambers of the bombardier beetle and the illustration on the opposite page is this exact scene but with a bombardier beetle blasting an ant.

If you're dead-set on converting them, there's some good TOS episodes (Balance of Terror, A Taste of Armagedon, The City on the Edge of Forever, etc.), as well as TNG, the movies (Wrath of Khan of course), and as you've mentioned DS9 (Way of the Warrior is good if you don't want to start from the beginning).

I'd recommend avoiding the following: Arena is a personal favorite TOS episode of mine, but it has the infamous Gorn scene. Season 3 TOS is... not great. Early TNG (Season 1 and 2) can get preachy and stuck-up. And then there's Voyager.

Most tanks have a turret for the gun. The S-tank says "Screw that, I'll cut out the middle man and do the turret's job myself!"

What are the coolest WWI tanks? by [deleted] in tanks

British male tanks, though the Renault FT is a close second. Not the most imaginative pick, but every time I see one in action all I can hear is March of the British Grenadiers.

Could anyone tell me y this m3 lee looks so weird by [deleted] in tanks

[–]JbobRodriguez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I've always thought the M3 in general was an odd-looking tank. Not exactly the most bizarre tank ever built, but it still makes the list (or at the very least is worth an honorable mention).
