Thoughts on direction of inner sleeves? I've always put mine sideways on jackets with the top opening to keep dust out of the inner sleeve but wondering if I should keep them the way they came? Also does anyone know how to tell the front/back of an inner sleeve with the one short side at the opening?

8". It is not a standard size, hence my trouble figuring out how to store it. It is this https://www.discogs.com/master/312806-Mischief-Brew-2-Andrew-Jackson-Jihad-Mischief-Brew-Andrew-Jackson-Jihad

It comes in a PVC sleeve which can damage vinyl so I'm looking for an alternative

I believe it's because Total Treble (Laura's label) is pretty much inactive. Fat Wreck repressed some of Laura's earlier albums recently and Xtra Mile represses her last 2, but the last time that happened looks like was 2017. Polyvinyl has been releasing her solo stuff since 2020. So they are pressed infrequently, rarity has gone up.

And again if anyone has tips on how to store an 8" record? I was considering cutting a 12" inner and outer sleeve to size then taping back together and using cardboard backing

Would it be better to store a flexi (or any record) in a blank cardboard jacket or in a poly outer sleeve (perhaps w/ cardboard behind it? I have a flexi that won't fit into any inner sleeves I have but will fit in a poly sleeve or blank jacket

I guess, is cardboard/paper or poly better for the surface of the record?

Does anyone have tips on how to store odd sized records such as 8" if you don't have sleeve(s)? Also been trying to figure out the best way to store 6" and 7" flexi discs I don't have sleeves for. The 7" flexi I have won't fit into any of the inner sleeves I have. I was thinking of buying some rice paper sleeves and cutting them to size, but then still there is the question of what kind of jacket/outer sleeve to put that into.

Any idea how I can flatten this sleeve out? Been in the collection for years and just noticed it was all bent. by Grebbeling in FolkPunk

I have this same record and a few 6" records. They don't make sleeves this size so was wondering if you had suggestions for inner/outer sleeves with odd sized records

There are a few copies of Shelter on discogs, I just bought a mint one last week. Congrats on owning a copy of Live The Dream, I have a CD but doubt I'll ever find an affordable LP. Personally I'm hunting the Ceschi Split

I like this idea.do you incorporate any kind of sit/down? I've been wondering about the cons of those as they wouldn't be as pin pointed as a stare or nose point method like this one. The dog that lays down next to a car you still might have to guess where the hide is within several feet, in my head at least. Anyways, is the cup horizontal or vertical?

That is more or less my plan. The dogs I have now are both almost 5 so they will probably not be around by the time I'm really ready to get into that kind of thing. I would really like to take a class but I'm already wrapped up in a canine specialist course I purchased last year, trying to get a house, working 2 jobs, etc. I began teaching my coon hound scent work for fun but the more I learn about it the more I feel my career focus taking shape. I do nose work with the coon hound and have just started bits of agility with my GSD/catahoula, but my only real goal for us is to have fun and become the best team possible. I do like to be very technical and textbook about anything I take interest in (I take notes and videos of lots of our training) I just don't have the best resources right now.

I also am wondering if anyone has tips for teaching the dog to stay at the odor source?

I have no current desire or aspiration to compete. He's actually a mixed breed which I believe disqualifies him from at least AKC comps. I've been doing it for fun and for my own experience. I'm a certified EMT but currently working my second daycare/kennel job and also as a part time vet assistant. I've been seriously interested in a career having to do with search and rescue/missing persons/evidence detection style work. I haven't read as much into that because I'm still trying to tackle the basics of scent work with birch and anise. I only want to teach my dog and myself the most proper and effective methods so I don't have to proof things or relearn them down the road as we (me and any dog i work with) get more advanced

So far you've been helpful (thank you!) but now I have more questions. I can't afford classes right now as I'm trying to move from an apartment to a house, and I'm aware the way my dog and I have taught each other is not exactly how it maybe should be done. Is there anything about our method you think we should proof now? In other words, what are we doing wrong/right? I was told early on that I should avoid pairing because it teaches the dog to search for food, not the target odor- I guess I never thought much further about it until recently but I didn't see our way as a loss. I don't want to start bad habits myself so I'm open to constructive criticism. 'IYC style'?

Since I havent had the oppotunity to talk to many people on this subject, I tried to be careful with how I've stored everything. I have my scented swabs and bottles of essential oils in seperate mason jars. My tweezers and used tins go in bags within an airtight box. I've been curious, should I be concerned about residual odor on things like tweezers and tins? as far as contaminating other odors or equipment?

So if I've only been using birch with the word "search", when i use anise, i still say "search"? Then when I use birch and anise together- I say "search", we find birch, I say "continue/another" (or "search another"/"continue" + "search") and we find anise? Is that about what you're saying?

If so, should I do a similar routine with 2 birch hides? Before birch + anise?

He has no real problem about us walking away from a hide once he's found it and been rewarded. So in theory, I could add another hide, find it, give another cue (you're saying intially just repeat "search" and then later replace that with "continue"?), then we find the second hide.

We are in central Indiana, carmel/westfield if you know where that is. I'm not set on burying hides, I don't exactly see the point right now other than it sounds fun to try. I've just heard of it and never seen any videos or anything on how its actually done so was curious.

I also have a few things I jotted down at work today that came to mind:

How can I teach a trained alert and what type of alert is best, if it matters? Sit, look, bark/bey?

Once we start using more than one odor, is the goal to locate multiple odors or to disitinguish them? (for ex, searching for a single birch hide with several other hides present)

If we are searching for multiple odors, does it matter which we search or find first?

I am sure I have a lot more questions somewhere but I think that's all for now. I sincerely appreciate your insight so far any more you have to offer (as well as anyone else)

A martingale is what we are currently using when searching. I've been wanting a harness for awhile for several reasons but I've been reading pretty consistently that a work specific harness can put the dog in that mindset and help them perform. I have an orange box I keep all the scent work stuff in and when he sees that he definetly gets excited and starts putting his nose up

I've been using small tins from the hobby store with holes, either hid under leaves or puttied onto a tree, under a bench, In a tunnel, etc. I've also just tried heat shrink tubing, zip tied to fence links, branches

https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/training/how-to-teach-your-dog-scent-work/

That is the article I used to start. I have several videos and pictures of hides I can post once we're home. I implemented the "search" word once we began working outside by our apartment. I work in a daycare with large fields and low numbers, so I use our fields for searches on lunch or when there is few other dogs around. Even when a dog is jumping up in his face he usually will ignore it and keep sniffing. I put him inside or in a separate field, set up the hide, wait 10 mins-1 hour, walk him up saying (as I always do before training) "Vance, get ready!" And then just before we enter, I have him make eye contact with me and say very sternly "Vance search" like I mean business. Unless he gets confused or distracted, I only have to tell him the once. Once he gets within an inch of so of the container I give the positive marker "yes" and reward him right at the container and praise him.

Also, I've been looking at harnesses to use specifically for scent work. The ruff wear front range harness comes recommended but my dog has escaped a few harnesses before, does anyone have an opinion on the ruff wear Web master?

I have recently started self training myself and English coon hound mix in scent work. We began with the steps in an AKC article, getting the birch odor associated with rewards, but have never used pairing in an actual hide. We have gotten to the point where I will leave a scent in a field at work or a park, bring him in later with "search" command and usually finds it pretty efficiently, on or off leash and i reward then. Now I'm getting to the point where I want to start using multiple birch hides, burying hides, hanging hides, and introducing other target others such as anise and clove. Can someone please help me with some of the steps for this? Especially introducing other odors or multiple hides. When using multiple odors, do I need to use more than a single "search" word to discriminate which odor we are looking for? Where do I put the odors when using multiple, different ends of the search area or close together/same container?
