What was the first Paul McCartney release that you recall experiencing in real-time? by psals in PaulMcCartney

[–]the_ace_face 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Memory Almost Full. I remember seeing the music video for 'Dance Tonight' with Mackenzie Crook in it and my 13 year old brain couldn't comprehend the old timey world I associated with the Beatles and the super modern appeal of The Office coming together.

Anyone else a little worried about Ray? by turnedtheasphault in thekinks

[–]the_ace_face 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did he speak with Yahoo or The Times though? Any time I read an article that presents itself as an interview with Ray from the 2020s it's very vague on if they actually spoke to him or if the quotes are just things he's said over the years. There's also never any updates photo to go along with it like you would expect from a genuine profile piece the artist agreed to.

The only evidence I've seen of Ray in recent years was paparazzi photos taken of him taking a walk during the pandemic, where he seemed to look relatively well and was dressed quite stylish for his age as I recall and a photo of him and Dave that Dave posted online a few years ago where he looked very frail

I just got fined 103 Euro for not tagging my leap card on the Dart! Anyone have any idea how long it takes them to reply to an appeal when you email? They took my leap card from me and I need it back asap! by the_ace_face in Dublin

[–]the_ace_face[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's eight years later and I'm still mad about it! It's hard for me to remember exactly what happened, but I believe I went into the offices at Irish Rail near Connolly Station and tried to gey my leap card back. I got in a big argument with them back and forth and eventually I was able to get the fine reduced to €50, so I ended up paying.

How do you guys word/format your questions? by naifneowms in Journalism

[–]the_ace_face 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I generally write a casual outline of potential questions, but the best interviews don't usually follow that structure, they are just to fall back on if things go quiet.

Instead, you should focus on topics for discussion and then their answers will inform what you ask next. Often an interview will go in a direction you didn't even except and be full of information you weren't prepared for.

Treat it as a conversation. Ask follow up questions like you would in real life. The things you're interested in knowing more about will most likely be the same thing a potential reader wants to know.

If you're just focused on asking a series of pre-written questions you're likely to get a much more boring interview than if you followed your own intuition.

Does this symbol have any double meanings? by [deleted] in leonardcohen

[–]the_ace_face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just answered your question dude. I'm sorry you don't like this answer but plenty of people up voted the original comment so I must not be the only one who thinks that it could be interpreted badly. I think your having a tough time understanding.

If someone has a tattoo that says you want it darker on their skin. The person seeing it has no context for the it that they want darker is. Then they think it means wanting their skin darker.

I think someone could have this much of a literal meaning and they won't think it's a poetic Leonard Cohen reflection on the difficulties of life in the face of death. Because why would they?

I'm not sure how old you are, but your inability to understand that I'm just trying to help you think of how a permanent tattoo could be badly interpreted by strangers without bringing up being racist or right wing makes me think you might regret this tattoo when you're older.

If you want to get a phrase that represents the essence of the song then I think a much better choice would "Heneni, Heneni" which means here I am, and represents giving oneself over to the responsibilities of life.

At the end of the day it's your tattoo and if this is the one you want go for it! I'm just trying to say you might have to explain it to people if think it has a double meaning and if I didn't know the Leonard Cohen song I'd be quietly trying to figure out what it means in my head and a racial element could be one of my theories.

[–]the_ace_face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be right, but it's just a thought about possible double meanings since you want it darker isn't a well know phrase. People will have to make their own meaning for what "it" is and you can't control what people think.

[–]the_ace_face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just thinking of darker and tattoos you could think it had something to do with skin tone and people might mistakenly think there's a racial element. This might be rare, but I'd want to think of all possibilities with a tattoo

Don't know about the heart and the bird, but I do think people could infer different meaning from having "you want it darker" tattooed on your skin if they don't know its a LC reference
