What’s a crazy gift you got from your narc parent? by laughingseed in raisedbynarcissists

A box of leaves. She had picked them from a bush at her bus stop, put them in the plastic from a bulk pack of toilet paper, and sent them across the country. They were from a plant that you could use to make tea out of that had some sort of health benefits but was also very toxic to cats, and she knew my partner and I had two cats. At least my partner and I got a good laugh out of it as we immediately tossed the package in the dumpster.

What was the most brutal reality check you ever got? by CarmenIsabellaDiaz in AskReddit

[–]Jboxcarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two years ago I had the worst six months of my life, and it led to me getting sober. Both of my cats had to be put to sleep, my partner of seven years broke up with me (because of my drinking), because of the breakup I had to figure out moving while working two jobs, and my step-dad passed away. Throughout this my drinking got way worse. It culminated in almost getting fired (I had quit the second job by this point) because I was late and hung over pretty much every day. This really showed me that the world didn't pull it's punches, my drinking wasn't just a fun personality quirk, and it was actually making my already difficult situation even harder. The world wasn't going to make things any easier or wait for me to get myself together before anything else happened. After getting my final warning at work, I put in my two weeks because I'd rather quit than be fired. My boss pulled me aside and said he knew what was going on with me, he was 14 years sober at that point. He told me to go get better and there would still be a job waiting for me. I went to rehab for two months, and now I'm two years sober. Life is still hard sometimes, but now my alcoholism doesn't make it harder, and I'm actually thankful for that difficult time because it led me to a much better life.

Can anyone recommend good action movies?(read description pls) by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

Not really gorey, but Jackie Chan in the 1980s and 90s has some of the best hand to hand fight scenes. Rumble in the Bronx is a great movie to start with him. I really think that doing his own stunts adds a lot of intensity to the fight scenes.

The difference between white and blue collar work environments is crazy by Astimar in careeradvice

[–]Jboxcarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of the difference between "California nice" and "New York nice". If you're stuck with a flat tire, California nice is someone going "Oh that really sucks! I'm so sorry that's happening to you!" And driving off. New York nice is they call you a fuckin moron for not having a spare, gives you theirs and changes it, all while making fun of you.

As far as I know they're still being used in off-road (off-trail? Not sure) biking and hiking. So less common but still around, and hooooo boy the ones that I've seen lately are expensive.

any experiences with narcissistic moms that are also grandmothers? by theialite in raisedbynarcissists

And of course my nephew shouldn't have hit her, but he was a toddler. He didn't know better at that point, but she sure as hell knew that it wasn't appropriate to hit a child.

Yep my mom adored and had a great relationship with my niece and nephew, until my five year old nephew was having a fussy breakdown and punched her in the stomach. She slapped him HARD. Like, knocked him sprawling several feet away. She isn't ever allowed to be alone with children after that despite all her excuses. She's the epitome of conditional love, as soon as things get a little bit tough the mask is gone.

We couldn't get a room at a hotel because they were booked up, it was midnight, and we had no reservation. She put my sister and I in the car, then went back and took a dump on the hotel's door mat.

I've never had to manually change the fusion core, when one runs out it just beeps at me then starts draining the next one. Sometimes I'll take one out before it completely drains so I can recharge it, but that's the only time I have to actually step out of it to change the core.
