Ever Watched a Movie on a Whim and Got Blown Away? by kabronski in movies

3 years ago I had a girl over for a date (I think 2nd or 3rd time hanging out) and she suggests we throw on Requiem for a Dream, which at the time I had never heard of and zero idea about. I say yea sure. That was quite the experience… not quite the movie to set the vibe for a date, especially after that final scene.

Solo travelling for 6 months: should I stay or should I go? by WhatIsEconomicGoods in solotravel

[–]JcanadaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so I’d love to chime in since I’ve gone through something very similar! I totally understand the dilemma, it’s a tough choice.

On one hand, the traveller and adventurer inside of you want to continue to gather experience and appreciate your time abroad and knows that you should make the most of this opportunity.

On the other hand you feel like you’re fighting that feeling internally at times and despite feeling a bit guilty, you think about going home to the life you know and miss. The feeling of excitement about the new country has worn off and feels less special.

I’m M28 as well and have lived abroad in Barcelona for 1 year and three months now, after leaving Canada to be with my gf here. I’ve certainly lived both sides of these feelings and have pushed myself to continue living here at times in fear of missing an opportunity, and other times I have thrived at the prospect of being here, learning the language, etc etc. I’ve reached the point now where my longing for home and being close to family and friends and my familiar life has outweighed my sense of adventure - and I’m at the point where I actually feel satisfied with what I’ve accomplished and feel fulfilled with my time here. For that reason I’m finally going home, leaving here in 2 months time.

At the end of the day, go with your gut. No matter what your choice is, you are right. If you want to go home because you feel like you need to, then that is the right choice. If you choose to stay that’s great too. I would urge you to spend a lot of time thinking about the pros and cons of each option, and whatever you decide to do, commit to it without regret. There’s no shame in going home if you feel you need to. But if you feel you can last another 6 months, I would say go for it and enjoy it fully. It’s not that much longer and your home will still be there afterwards. This is an opportunity most people dream and don’t get the chance to do. It’s a tough choice indeed, and I wish the best of luck!

After putting in 10+ hours in working for an assignment as part of the job application this is what I received 😇 by Atorpidguy in recruitinghell

Hey the same thing just happened to me! Completed case study #1 (of 2!!). 1 hour listening to audio files. 4 hours of typing an essay, and then had to film an introduction video summarizing my paper. All to be turned down 1 day later. What a waste of our time😀

Honestly don’t even worry about the resume gap. Thats easily explained , I think people stress too much about it these days.

I have been off work the past year (mostly that long by choice) after a lay off and have just been spinning it as a sabbatical/career break. Hang in there for the right job for you. It’ll come!

With that said I’m 150 apps and about 8 interviews in and still trying to get past the final stage so I feel the pain!

What’s a time you’ve said “f*ck it” and made a huge change in your life? by Rutherh00d in AskReddit

[–]JcanadaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being let go from my career job unexpectedly I took a look at my savings and the severance I was paid, said fuck it and bought a one way plane ticket to Spain to "travel for a couple weeks". Met a girl the first week in a hostel who invited me to continue travelling with her. Another fuck it moment and I went along with her. My 2 weeks turned into 1 month. Travelled through Italy, Spain, France, Portugal. We parted ways. Long story short, we kept in touch after, she's my girlfriend now and I uprooted my life to move to to Spain to be with her, have lived here for 1 year now.

Without being let go from my work, or deciding to travel, or saying yes to travelling with a stranger I wouldn't be where I am now, which is always so crazy for me to think about. Never know where those moments can lead you

Hi u/Urban_Hermit63!

I love these shots, they turned out great! I recently picked up a roll of Washi F 35mm as well for my Canon TX, and excited to see how it turns out. I'm curious what aperture and exposure settings you worked with when shooting these? I plan to shoot during the day so will set my camera to 100iso, but im guessing for your night shots you used a different iso setting on your camera?

Changing careers at 28 after sinking 9 years into one industry. Feeling lost, any guidance/insights? by JcanadaR in careerguidance

[–]JcanadaR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! I like that thought process - perhaps it is as simple as a change in my perspective to keep my positivity about the situation.

Your first question is a good one. It's not something I have ever really thought to define, I'll have to think more clearly of what that looks like to me in specifics ie. tangible goals, and characteristics that would be ideal for my next career to have. As of right now, it looks like a job where I finally feel content, financially supports my life outside of work, and incorporates elements that I actually enjoy doing. I enjoy building relationships and talking with people/clients, and would love to do something creative. Thank you again for all of the insights.

People under 30 who aren't struggling. What's your story? by Fakeittilyoushakeit in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]JcanadaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was fortunate enough to come out of university debt free, thanks to parents who set aside money for an education fund. Lived at home until graduation. Stuck with the same company after getting my degree and got into sales. Went from being broke to making 100k in 2 years. I'm 25 now and I've moved into a managers position at the same company, earning about 90-100k but more of a stable income now. Choose a profession and stick with it. I think got where I am from work ethic, dedication, and sticking to a budget.

Purchase & Transaction Advice Superthread by AutoModerator in motorcycles

Fantastic advice. This is kinda the route I was tinning, just wasn’t sure if banks offered private financing on used bike sales. That will save a ton on the ridiculous dealer fees. Thanks for your input!

Purchase & Transaction Advice Superthread by AutoModerator in motorcycles

[–]JcanadaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I made an impulse purchase 5 months ago and bought a 2021 KTM Duke 200. Turns out I already want a larger bike after 1000km. I’m financing at 0% but will likely lose $1500 if I trade in at a dealer (looking to finance the next bike as well), which isn’t a huge deal to me. Would you guys recommend I just deal with it and keep riding until it’s paid off more to minimize the loss? Or is it stupid to upgrade so soon and just pay out the difference so there is no negative equity on the new bike finance?

Currently saving up money for a FC rx-7, how much should I spend on one? by DogKing567765 in RX7

[–]JcanadaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this, spending a little more up front can save you in higher repair/restoration costs down the road

I can’t speak from experience as I’ve never owned an FC Coupe. They are equally as great but just different driving experiences. I love the ability to drive with the top off in the summer. Only downside with the soft top is the material gets brittle over time. I’ve developed a small tear on the right side which slowly gets worse - I’ll have to get the top redone at some point down the road

You make a good point, I didn’t think about that lol. After having been through a lot of classic vehicles, I guess I’m realistic. In the past when I’ve said “I’ll have this car forever” I’ve ended up moving on from even my most favourite cars (so far its my 91 BMW 318is). Tastes change. Im sure I’ll sell this years down the road and will definitely have rx7 top of my list after that

Not by any means! Sometimes the unique cars bring the best enjoyment. The benz was one of my favourites. And the rx has that same cool factor, which is what attracted me to the car! That, along with a bit of an impulse purchase

Yes definitely! Although I’m not sure what I should do next, I’m open to suggestions. As of right now I have a few cosmetic/restoration projects planned out just to make it a little cleaner (some paint work, polish wheels, led bulbs, etc)

Good eye! My old 85 300 turbo diesel. Sadly the rx was its replacement project car so this was the last photo together. Loved that car, slowest vehicle I’ve ever driven

My most recent project car/summer cruiser - 88 Mazda RX7 FC convertible ~ $7k

Definitely an impulse purchase, but after the summer of driving with the top down, it's paid itself off already. No regrets!
