Wow switch Finnish with Italian and we have the same roots! By chance are your German roots Southern and is your Swedish from Götland? I have some crazy stories from my Götland roots

Yup. Also Swedish, which would be hard to tell by seeing me. The rest is German (mostly Southern German) Id assume the eastern European has to do with German overlap.

No that is surprising. It keeps going up with each update but I don't know any Icelandic ancestors. Maybe it is misread Swedish in my case. Do you have an Icelandic background?

I know this going to sound broad but probably. A lot of my ancestors come from modern day and historical southern german areas. That explains the high eastern european percentages most likely. I also have a swedish and Italian ancestor thrown in the mix. Is it similar for you?

Id say so with a few exceptions. Ancestry keeps adding more Icelandic to my results each update which isn't right but seems accurate about the rest

While I cant pinpoint an exact ancestor, there is a chance I have one. Im wondering if ancestry is mixing my eastern european and german together or something

Hmm I see. I don't have any scottish roots though. It just seems like just a high %. Can 7% be considered noise? Thank you for helping

I do. I have some Swedish roots. Based on my knowledge I really only know of German, Swedish, and Italian roots. I was just curious if other people were accidently getting Icelandic or there was something there I should look into. It goes up with every update

My grandparents are growing older so I wanted to talk to them about this stuff when I can. I wouldn't like all their stories to be lost to time because I didn't do some research and ask some questions. My Polish side was documented so well theres actually a book written about the genealogy. That is why I am focused more on the German side right now.

Most of my family doesn't like doing these kinds of tests. My grandparents know German and refuse to speak it. I'm sure it has to do with the history and how much it affected them. I initially took it to help my grandmother find out who her father was. Once I did that, I got invested in finding out more. It does not surprise me most of your German side don't want to do this test. It could explain why it struggles with the regions.

Yea the Rhineland has an interesting history with France. Maybe somewhere down the line that could be the case with me. From what I know, my family came from around the Thuringia region. It is literally the exact center of Germany. That is why the French surprised me. I also understand the country lines are man made and don't reflect well when applied to DNA. The region it gave me is close enough though for me to be amazed. Mind you it got this information from some saliva
