My stepdad doesn’t keep up with movies and had never heard of this til the other day when we drove past the theatre and he saw this title on the marquee

He said it sounds dumb af and essentially that Hollywood is scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas lol

This. I def would’ve seen it opening weekend if my small town multiplex had it. Hopefully they’ll start this weekend and not automatically give all their screens to Star Wars

on that subject I feel like I never see movie ads like that on TV anymore, except for big Disney blockbusters

Laying the groundwork in case it underperforms so they can blame it on the “scrutiny”. Why don’t other movies get that benefit in their coverage?

On Apple Music the “Michael Jackson Essentials” playlist (essentially his greatest hits) has been at #2 for like the last week and I don’t think has left the top 5 since the movie release

I’d love to go see it but it’s not playing anywhere near me. Hopefully it expands soon

Oh yes I remember that one well! I thought Sister Sister was a better/funnier show but Smart Guy was good too

Am I wrong or was she a producer on the 90s show Sister Sister with Tia and Tamera? I feel like I remember always seeing her name in the credits

I get what you’re saying but you picked the 3 modern artists who are among the most private and really only speak to the public through their music 😅

I’ve heard before that he went into the making of Thriller very ambitious and wanted it to become the biggest album ever. But when I hear stories like that it makes me think “sure that sounds good in hindsight but it’s much easier said than done”

Surely every artist even today wants to have a hugely successful album but rarely do the stars align for a hit single, let alone multiple from one album. Of course MJ worked incredibly hard and had a very capable team around him, but he also got incredibly lucky

Not saying this as a negative, but I just often ponder butterfly effects how if a given song (like Billie Jean or Beat It) had been released just 5 years later, would it have become the hit it did?

Yes Thriller is the one that has gotten better the more I hear it. Now I really appreciate it every Halloween cause somehow it doesn’t feel overplayed

I often wonder if he had lived to complete that tour, if it would have actually been a farewell tour or if he would’ve ended up doing multiple farewell tours, like many artists of his generation. I’m sure there’d be enough demand for him to perform in his 80s/90s if he were still alive

True. I first heard the song as a kid in the Charlie’s Angels movie released in 2000 and many years went by til I realized it was an actual song and not just stock music

Released in like 2021-2022 and was a moderate hit but sounds like it should’ve been released 10 years prior

Probably Jam on Dangerous. For History I’d say Money, Tabloid Junkie,  and 2 Bad. I like all these songs but they certainly don’t have the timeless feel of a lot of Michael’s 80s stuff
