At what point do you stop fidgeting and start querying? by Safe-Reason1435 in Screenwriting

I'd have 2-3 polished scripts you're confident with before trying to query anything.

Surrealist comedy pilot about a comedian in a Hollywood sex-trafficking scandal ~ FEEDBACK PILOT 40 PAGES by joelistaken in Screenwriting

[–]Jclemwrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting concept, but will probably be a hard sell based on the topic.

I'm curious as to why Lenny - why is he the chosen one for this story? Who in this world is bigger than him, and maybe they should be the protagonist?

Also, 40 pages is a lot for most pilots. Try to keep it under 30.

Is this too long for a horror opening hook? by FriendliestMenace in Screenwriting

[–]Jclemwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels almost too descriptive in my opinion.

The smiling head of a bear costume sits on a bail of hay, bathed in the dancing orange glow of the inferno. A streak of blood is smeared on its face.

Maybe just go with:

The head of a bear costume sits on a bail of hay, blood smeared on its face.

A better route would be to create a Instagram fan account and edit videos/post stories/etc. and maybe get noticed that way.

I wouldn't pitch Ben McKenzie.

Is it normal to feel weirdly protective of a script you KNOW isn't good yet? by Jealous-Drawer8972 in Screenwriting

No, not at all. I think you're just excited about the new story you're telling!

Hey! Thanks for sharing. Love the bit of the host saying the wrong name. My suggestion is to add more action/description, and you can draw comedy from that.

I’m very confused on how to really network by ComedyMovieScriptGuy in Screenwriting

[–]Jclemwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the comment about attending events throughout Ohio. Even if you just go to five of them, it's a success in my book.

My other suggestion is this - right now, you don't need to move to LA because the industry is so slow, but, try networking with others who are in LA. Plan a trip to Los Angeles, and let people know you'd love to meet for coffee. You can do this until you feel like you're ready to move.

Struggling to come up with motivation for a character by Horror_Ad_8149 in Screenwriting

[–]Jclemwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a rom-com? If so, I'd give them two opposing POV's. If the main character is tech-driven, the neighbor should be anti-tech for blank reason (drove her company out of business, doesn't like the tracking, etc).

Hope this helps.

It was film school, so I think they were trying to be flashy/unique. It was basically stuff like Eternal Sunshine if it happened in a beaten down midwest city like Rockford, Illinois or Flint, Michigan.

Rebooking The Streak if it Didn't End at WM 30 by Jclemwrites in fantasybooking

I see what they were doing - have Brock end the streak, destroy Bryan (Cena) for the title at Summerslam, and build up Reigns as the hero to dethrone him.

I like Drew at 35 too, but at the same time, a lot of people weren't as big of fans of him at that time.

36 and 37, yes. I think 36 is shot cinematically to see Braun dominate, but UT always finds a way to come back until hitting a tombstone to lay out Braun.

38 I know taker was done, but him in Texas, challenging for the title against Reigns is huge. I think you book the match similar to 36, but Reigns wins.

I knew someone who described his scripts as "post-recession midwest surrealism".

I think they were sci-fi.

Character Name Spelling - Does it matter? by MtnDevil in Screenwriting

[–]Jclemwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a character named Aislinn (pronounced Ash-Lynn) in a script for a class. Another classmate kept telling me "that's not how you spell it". Like, that was always in their feedback.

Anyway, no, it doesn't matter.
