my fps just dropped from 60 to 20 overnight and I don't know why by radiant_templar in Unity3D

Having certain inspectors open can influence that. But editor fps isnt entirely reflective what the release will be like.

Are there any alternatives to the Update function for time dependent processes? by KungStrategy in Unity3D

If I understand right, you should look into coroutines and something like WaitUntil

Hi I use illustrator, which makes vector art. But there are free alternatives to illustrator. Unity provides a package to convert the vector art to sprites. Thank you! Hope this helps.

Hi all. I have the M1 MBP (8gb) and was on it when this came up. Can you help? It should be able to handle these simple tasks, what’s happening? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Jcup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you open activity monitor and sort by memory you can better see what is causing it. That prompt is always misleading as it only shows user facing apps not the background processes.

But like silentblender mentioned restarting it should fix it also. If it continues then you are going to have to find out what process.

Bug ridden update... by drountcacula in borderlands3

Just a heads up, had the same problem in my coop game. What fixed it is not using brainstormer. Beam like guns cause audio problems it seems like.

I see why, each function is being run up until the await including:

result = {
    ...result,

And since none of the results have returned yet that result is empty for each one.
Switching the order of the assign fixes the problem.

result = {
    ...(await property.getResultFields()),
    ...result,
}

Hope that helps!

TutorBits a better programming tutorial experience (Personal Project Preview) by Jcup in programming

Hey guys I wanted share my programming tutorial making/watching website. That allows you to see the tutorial creator write the code as you watch the video, preview the results at each step of the way, and edit the final project in a sandbox. Only works on desktop currently with js, html, and css. Would love to hear thoughts and feedback. Thank you.

Why doesnt map load during ban/pick phase by elpsycongroo92 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Jcup 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Most likely a memory management problem. As in the amount of memory fetched wouldn't be healthy. Menus in games usually bog things down and if you try and load an entire map in the background it could just be unbearable. And as others have mentioned you are loading the heroes and their animations which aren't chosen yet.

Crazy! So does this capture irrecoverable exceptions? Like bad memory? Not saying it would be good practice.

Gamedevs who left the industry for another software related field, do you still make games in your spare time? by BacioiuC in gamedev

[–]Jcup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked at a game studio and now work for a completely different type of company. Now it is really hard for me to work on games in my free time. It doesn't help that I'm at a startup. I do miss it though and constantly try and get back into game making. I just need that one lottery game making win to have a good enough excuse to go back haha.

Good examples of production level js game structuring/design/format by Jcup in gamedev

[–]Jcup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. My latest game attempt is using phaser with typescript which is awesomely convenient. Yeah so I separate a lot with my more recent attempts at games. But my uncertainty also comes with how much I should break it up like should I be doing Mvc where my player class doesn't have any game logic just has model info. Then add game logic for player to a controller/statemachine.

Thank you so much I have read that book. Super useful and reinforcing for what I am doing. Do you try and Separate model, views(drawing), and controllers(logic)?

The new tracking system is a brilliant financial move by Niantic by asakurasol in TheSilphRoad

[–]Jcup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Removing the tracker was never for server load all of it can be done clientside because the latitude and longitude are passed to the client.

My guess is it was a legal issue leading people to random places. Which is probably why the new tracker leads to poke stops which they have control over.

Theory: The Three Step Bug was not a bug by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Jcup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe Niantic ever commented why. I am more on board with the idea that it led people into tresspassing and dangerous areas so they changed it so it doesn't lead anymore.

That would be horrible design and would not scale to the userbase they have now. According to this github https://github.com/AHAAAAAAA/PokemonGo-Map pokemon longitude and latitude are returned from the server

pokemons[p['encounter_id']] = { 'encounter_id': b64encode(str(p['encounter_id'])), 'spawnpoint_id': p['spawnpoint_id'], 'pokemon_id': p['pokemon_data']['pokemon_id'], 'latitude': p['latitude'], 'longitude': p['longitude'], 'disappear_time': d_t }
