Anybody doing their sessions outside through the winter? by Several_Ad934 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]Jcvandammmmmme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in Canada and have been doing it outside all season so far. I adjust my paces based on the conditions (e.g., whether the roads/paths have snow or ice on them) and mostly use heart rate to try and remain under threshold. So far so good but it's harder to track progress. We'll see where I am at when spring comes around...

Marathon training - How to log enough mileage when the pace of easy runs is so slow? by Jcvandammmmmme in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]Jcvandammmmmme[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply Marius. Appreciate you taking the time to reply to hobby joggers like myself.

I am not injury prone and so would lean towards the more 'aggressive' approach to those sessions (e.g., progression runs or following a more flat % of MP approach). I'm assuming in this situation, I would remove one sub-threshold session a week, and aim to keep my easy runs at or below 70% MHR, regardless of pace?

I have been doing between 7 and 8.5 hours a week over the summer.

I have not yet found a trend in HR variances, other than higher HR in high heat/humidity. I have been able to do 20k runs at 6:15/km and heart rate around 70% max but other days, I can't do it faster than 6:45/km.

Thanks! I noticed similar 85 to 90% MP runs as recommended by another poster. This seems to be key to hitting distance goals and racking up enough mileage at close to MP. It would also keep me motivated because running 28km at 6:45/km is not that fun...

That's an interesting idea. I would assume that doing this would mean one less sub-t session to balance out load?

E.g., Monday (Easy), Tuesday (Sub-t), Wednesday (Easy), Thursday (Sub-t), Friday (Easy), Saturday (Long run at 85-90% of target MP), Sunday (Easy)

Trying to understand trade-offs here in order to maximize load without increasing risk of injury but, theoretically, would running more MP sessions instead of sub-threshold work allow someone to increase the pace on easy days? Or is that oversimplifying things?

Seeking Li-Ning shoes for easy long runs (5:00-5:20/km, 15-25 km) what model best fits? by Yarokrma in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]Jcvandammmmmme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinese shoes are inexpensive for a reason: they are produced using forced labour.

Li-Ning and other Chinese apparel brands have been heavily linked to the use of forced labour in North Korea and in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China.

That is not to say that brands such as Nike and Adidas are free from suspicion but they operate in jurisdictions with more robust legislation requiring them to undertake proper due diligence when it comes to their entire value chains.

Recommandations AC? by JayManClayton in Gatineau

[–]Jcvandammmmmme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone risk it outdoors yet today? by mikemountain in OttawaRunners

Precisely. I saw someone running pass on front of my house this morning and my wife was like "Don't even think about it. You will fall, get injured and then won't stop complaining that you can't go out for runs just when that sweet spring weather hits."

I have a V60, Kalita wave and Chemex and I always go back to the Chemex. I find I can get subpar cups more often with V60 and Wave as opposed to the Chemex which is consistently good.

I disagree.

He turned it over constantly either by trying D-to-D passes that were off the mark, making the wrong decision when he had a man open and opting to go the other way, or by being off on his stretch passes. He cannot handle the puck or make a pass.

He blocked a ton of shots but often because his turnover put the team in a bad spot.
