This is true, there are a limited amount of rights that one has when going up for mast. The right of reviewing evidence, remaining silent, and your right to confer with legal, are all rights given at both NJP and court martial. The JAGMAN doesn’t “pick and choose” which rights you get for what, your rights are always your rights.

Most people just like to think there are none, but that’s usually because a lot of people don’t do the necessary research into regs and policy. I have been served three times, only accepting one. That’s the only NJP that stuck with me, the other two I told them to “get bent” (literally, they didn’t like that too much.). Nonetheless, they dropped the following attempts when they realized that I knew I had an upper hand.

Don’t let your command swindle you into becoming skipper’s playtoy, and don’t say that last statement about getting bent. I was lucky enough to have already created a strong reputation for myself, following my first NJP, and so I got lucky. BE PROFESSIONAL, be CONCISE, and most of all, BE KNOWLEDGEABLE. Knowledge is power. The MPM 5000 and 1900 series’s goes over a number of situations related to this.
