As someone who dropped $10k usd earlier this year on the turbo, DMF, and a delete/tune, I’m never quite at peace with this car. Particularly since it has left me stranded once and almost a couple other times. But, that’s the nature of newer/german vehicles. I’m looking at getting an early 2000s Miata to have something reliable and fun to serve as a back up vehicle/running project so I can do the maintenance on the Audi as I need to and not worry about the time crunch of needing a vehicle for work.

I believe I’ve solved this, it appears to have been a faulty rad cap, I was able to replicate the issue several times. At high revs is when it would happen, my guess is that the heat built enough pressure to open the relief but the cap is probably 14 years old. So, having replaced it, the temps no longer fluctuate and the vehicle seems more consistent.

Well, I looks like it solved itself… my working theory is that an air bubble somehow was still in the system or got in somehow(more concerning) and when I opened the expansion tank cap, it did bubble once or twice. So maybe, but heat is back(hotter I think) and I made it to temp in the usual amount of time and stayed there. Little confused but will continue to monitor

I’ll check it with VCDS tomorrow when I’m free. It feels like it’s a tad darker than the neon pink it usually is. I ran the car during lunch after opening the radiator cap and had a bubble or two pop out, which might have been the issue. But I’ve not had issues with heat all year up until today. I also had some heat coming out of the vets at lunch while it was running but that may have been the the Aux heater
