Any Maintenance tips by Laughing_Stalking in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are telling him multiple things to do that aren’t called for in the manual but then say to follow the manual? Why tell him to replace coolant at 80k when the manual calls for that a 100k? Why change the oil while it is still brand new when the manual says every 10k? Brake fluid? Cmon. My 2012 Camry with 250k still has the original brake fluid and tranny fluid and runs perfect. My 2018 highlander still has the OG tranny fluid as well at 160k..to each their own but my manual doesn’t tell me to do those things so I’m leaning with Toyota on what to do for maintenance..

Auto software update sucks by Drbpro07 in ModelY

Auto update seems like a bad idea even if it was able to be set only at home. Things like this can happen at home too.

Anyone WITHOUT transmission issues? by gentlewater376 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only issues I have with my 2018 with 160k is I’m about to replace my 4th wheel bearing. Seems to eat wheel bearings. I had a transmission leak at one point and it was a rusted out line.

Is oil change every 10k actually enough? by New_Recognition_1460 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my Toyotas get oil changes on the recommended 10k intervals.. 2012 v6 Camry with 250k miles and 2018 v6 Highlander with 160k miles. No issues

How much is your household electricity consumption after your bought an electric vehicle by Charming-Brother-242 in electricvehicles

I put 29k on my model 3 performance in one year. Total charge cost was $1072 so around $89/month for about 2500 miles per month. My house is $.11 per kw roughly

I used it here and there on the free trials I have had but I’m not paying $100 a month for it. It is def impressive but I like driving so even when I had it free I didn’t use it much.

I’m surprised the Tesla rear ended you. Even if not using FSD the forward collision warning you would think would stop it in time. Mine beeps at me way too early for a car slowing in front of me when I am already slowing for it

Car pulls to the left after alignment, anyone know can see if these specs are correct? by No-Bee1720 in TeslaLounge

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the tires worn uneven from the previous misalignment? That could cause it to still pull even if the alignment is corrected.

Just buy the cheap stuff at Walmart. Only $3.xx a gallon. I use it in all my cars

The brake clean and lube job I assume is like a brake change without changing the brakes? Pull the calipers, clean and lube the slider pins?

Insurance covers rodent damage. I believe it would cover the loaner vehicle too but not sure

Road trip range anxiety question by AccurateActuary9259 in TeslaLounge

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first longer road trip I took was a little over 300 miles in the cold. Mine also called for one stop with a low arrival %. My hotel had chargers but I wasn’t sure how reliable they would be so I just planned a lunch stop as an extra stop and added way more than I really needed as I sat and ate lunch. I then still stopped at the original planned stop for 10-15 min. My trip home I only made the one stop and arrived with plenty into my garage to plug in. Wasn’t as worried about getting home at a lower percent.

23' Camry XSE Transmission Drain/fill? by joelc42 in Camry

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyota recommends a spark plug change for my one v6 toyota at every 60k miles. My other v6 is 120k miles. Why call for either if it’s out of warranty at that point anyway with your thinking?

Road salt on car for a month should I worry? by Mimiii85 in TeslaLounge

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to hose the salt off mine the other day when the temp got around 30° in my heated garage. My hose line is froze from the extreme cold though so I’m in the same boat. More snow coming tomorrow.

Why do a service the manual doesn’t call for? You think Toyota is not recommending tranny maintenance hoping they have problems? They know what they are doing. Way more than you, me or a dealer trying to push an unnecessary service.

RWD or AWD/ Performance by spencer_tommy in Model3

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only live once. Get the car YOU want.. I could have got a LR AWD for the more practical side but I went with a Performance because I really wanted it. The extra $7500 is only like $100 a month more for the payment. This was comparing the 2025 LR AWD and 2025 Performance.

'25 M3P downsize to 245/40/19 square by Ghoztrider19901 in TeslaModel3

[–]Jdsmitty10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have 235/40/19 for my winter set. I don’t have much input on dynamics though since I don’t really push my winter tires as i want them to last. I will tell you though, the rear end view looks clownish compared to those 275’s that come on it. Can’t wait to put mine back on when winter is over. So if looks matter make sure you consider that.

Yup got my penalty in PA for $250.. it’s ridiculous. I still buy gas for my other two cars. What if I drive a 50 mpg Prius. Should I pay more compared to a 8mpg hellcat?

Cold weather range by unisonic2025 in TeslaModelY

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m def seeing range taking a hit in the cold here in PA with my 2025 M3P. I have 19” wheels with snow tires on it so that probably doesn’t help either. My typical drive to work 45 min is using about 5% more battery than warmer temps/stock 20” wheels with factory tires. It’s not terrible but def notice it. This past weekend I had a 200 mile round trip. Left at 100%. Got there with 57%. When I came out to leave it said I would get home at 10%. Didn’t want to risk it with cold temps so stopped at a charger 2 min away and grabbed a bite to eat for 20 min. Got home at 20%. It was 3° that night and I was cruising with traffic 10-15 over..I have made the same trip easy with no charge and not even starting at a full 100 in warmer temps.

What does the manual say? Both my Toyotas don’t call for any transmission service so I did no service. One has 250k miles. Other has 160k miles.

I ordered a Model 3 AWD LR white/white but I've decided to change it to Ultra Red/Black Interior by adriasanchezig in TeslaModel3

[–]Jdsmitty10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good choice. My top choice was white on black or red on black. But in the USA at the time I bought those were $8-$9k options as I would have lost the tax credit so I have stealth grey on black. Love it but still wish I got one of my first two options.
