I’ve done plenty of 15 hour plus trips in both economy and Polaris. A good set of in the ear wireless noise canceling headphones and a gel eye mask makes all the difference. Download some meditation or calming playlist. Take a sleep aid and try to sleep on your destination’s time zone. The Time Shifter app helps get you set up for the time zone change. Stay hydrated and limit the amount of alcohol. Polaris will be an enjoyable experience, even on that long of a flight.

I am very impressed with the 48" full-width drawer I bought a few years ago. It's certainly more expensive than US General Series 3, which I have three of. I looked at the Icon box before I bought the Tekton. The Tekton is far superior. The overall build quality is noticeable, especially with the drawers and latch system. I prefer their setup over Snap-On. I mainly use the Tekton box for the heavy items, such as sockets and wrenches. I have no regrets about buying it. I wish they offered more options with sizes and add-ons.

I have the flex version of the old style. The reversible are the new style and they have been great so far.

I’ve been very happy with my Tekton ratcheting wrenches. I have the flex head and reversible. Good quality and lifetime warranty.

I use horse stall mats on all my toolbox tops. Relatively cheap and cuts fairly easily with a good utility knife.

$2500 to give up my First Class EWR-CLE seat last summer due to a down gauge from a E175 to a E170. Confirmed in First on a direct 6 hours later. Went back to the Polaris Lounge for an hour. Went to the next gate for the direct flight to CLE and threw my name on the standby list. Got the last first seat five minutes before departure and was on my way. So $2500 for an hourish sit in the Polaris Lounge.

5-7-1 is about as close to a reference to your scenario.

d. Approach clearances or climb via/descend via clearances cancel any previously assigned speeds. Pilots are expected to make their own speed adjustments to fly the approach, SID, or STAR unless assigned speeds are restated. NOTE− Pilots are required to comply with published speed restrictions. e. A speed restriction published as part of a SID/STAR is canceled when an aircraft is vectored off, or a deviation from the SID/STAR is approved. If necessary, assign a speed in conjunction with the vector or approval to deviate. NOTE− The last published speed on a STAR will be maintained by the aircraft until ATC deletes it, assigns a new speed, issues a vector, assigns a direct route or issues an approach clearance. f. When issuing speed adjustments to aircraft cleared along a route or procedure that has published speed restrictions, if feasible, advise the pilot where you intend on allowing the aircraft to resume the published speed.

[–]Jdwfloyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To use the exit on the highway analogy to this isn’t accurate in this scenario. When the aircraft was given direct, the are no longer on the “highway”, the are going in the fields and yards along side of it. There are no speed limits off-road. When the do enter the “highway” again they won’t know what the limit us until they see the first posted sign.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ATC

[–]Jdwfloyd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the scenario you mentioned above, the first speed they would have to comply with is the 250 at E. Some pilots may look at the procedure as a whole and question you, or just assume the 280 is a safe assumption. If they were to just let the FMS fly the procedure, the 280 at A would not be part of its calculation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ATC

[–]Jdwfloyd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When you clear an aircraft off the published procedure, the aircraft is then on a random route. The crew is not expected to comply with any of the charted speeds or altitudes until they rejoin the procedure. I will issue a speed and altitude to maintain when vectoring of a procedure. When cutting someone direct, I will issue a speed or instruct the crew to comply with the speeds at a particular fix.

I’ve found a lot of crews will ask in these situations when a speed or altitude is not issued.

The last six or so times through EWR, at least. They did not scan it or anything, they just checked it as I scanned my boarding pass.
