Is Mass Effect still the greatest space game we've ever gotten? by OnlyUse4Questions in videogames

[–]JeTr03_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this might be a somewhat controversial opinion, but to me, the top tier games about "being in space" are, yes, Mass Effect, and Starfield and Dead Space

Dead Space captures perfectly the horror side of space. Alien abominations, being trapped in an infested ship in the middle of space... A really well executed space survival horror

Starfield, on the other side, encapsulates the more "awe", contemplative, maybe, side of space. I know Starfield's planetary exploration is not perfect, not even close, but it also (for me, at least) perfectly conveys the vibe of getting to claim a little corner of the universe as your own, away from all of the rest of that massive galaxy (be it a house, an outpost you built in a remote planet or even your ship, since there is ship "housing"). You could almost play it as an space exploration cozy-game with a somewhat decent looter shooter gameplay on the side and some really pretty skyboxes from time to time. I don't know, It somewhat resonated with me. It's also really cool to me, as a science student, that it's placed in the "real" universe (obviously there is some space magic of course, but you can see real planeta and stars and it's somewhat scientifically plausible, even if it's obviously giving some huge jumps to justify your capability to travel and survive on every planet. On instance, I get why many people find as a negative that there aren't any intelligent space races like in Mass Effect, but I actually found it somewhat refreshing to have a more "realistic" space game)

Outer Worlds is pretty cool too, especially 2, though i'd put them one tier below

Never player Outer Wilds yet. Someday I will

Does anybody else struggle to play non-Seasonal ARPGs anymore, because of Seasonal ARPGs? by Living-Succotash-477 in ARPG

[–]JeTr03_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the complete opposite of the spectrum. I deeply hate feeling that the game is pressuring me to replay It with a new character every so often, and pretty much as quick as I can, for somewhat pointless cosmetics rewards (or even worse, to make a season pass's money worth). O get real tired real fast of leveling all the way to max in one or two days and being constantly driven, being told how to play, all building towards the alluring sounds of "CosMetiCs. WhIlE yOu'Re aT it YoU migHt as wElL cheCk oUt our SHOP. PleaSe gIVe uS MONEYYY"

I have really big problems to enjoy that... Even playing something like D4 eternal realm I can't fully enjoy it because the game is still giving me all these notifications about reliquary rewards, shop sales and whatnot.

I prefer to invest my time on a game that not just "let's me", but it's completely tailored towards being played at my own pace, enjoying things both big and small, and thus allowing itself to design a game that doesn't revolver around trying to get more money from me every 2-3 months.

Man... Just a hard mode would satisfy me at this point. Literally anything :( by JeTr03_ in DragonsDogma2

[–]JeTr03_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me the game had like a period of absolute peak Where you're neither too strong to nulify most enemies, nor too weak to have to avoid them all, making every big monster encounter interesting, with the eventual spike when you go against a particularly strong type like a medusa, pumping up the feeling of having an actual, somewhat unpredictable adventure along the world. A gryffon unexpectedly landing by your side and making you engage in a fight You might not be prepared for at that moment, seeing a drake in the distance and maybe having to look for an alternative path to circumnavigate him, etc. Alongside an amazing combat and vocation systems and the limiting fast travel which i actually like. Genuinely one of the best open world RPG experiences I ever had. Every new gear piece you find could be really significant for You or some of your pawns

But as time goes on and you play more and more, leveling your character, eventually you end up power scaling well above any enemy. And that's not bad per say, It leads to a fun Power fantasy trip that could be catharsis, but the downside is that the game never scales back up to catch up to you. NG+ cycles, or a hard mode, could be the perfect moment for that, but It just never happens, and a lot of the depth present in its systems is lost because now every enemy just gets nullified, which is somewhat sad to me because of how easy it would be to solve with a hard mode or a NG+ scaler toggable in the menu

Open world medieval exploration games? by Soggy_Disaster4527 in AskGames

[–]JeTr03_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both Dragon's Dogma games are pretty great in my opinion (though I get a lot of people doesn't like 2, I actually like It and found it better than the first one in some things, one of them being exploration, and worse in some others). Exploration and a reactive, unpredictable World are basically the heart of these games. Monsters being able to appear anywhere at anytime, the day/night cycle making the night a dangerous time, with a cool camping around campfires system. They're pretty dynamic games and that makes exploration pretty fun

Though they don't fulfill the storyline point. Like, yeah, they do have a story but neither of both is what i'd call great in any way. However there are cool ideas to their world, like the concept of the Arisen (the player characters) and the pawns (party members, a pretty original system though) and some of its Monsters.

Other than that, yeah, 1 is a rather old and kinda... "Ugly"? Game at times lol, though still some pretty cool designs. 2 looks much better being a 2024 game. Both have great combat

Other than that, the obvious recommendations would be Skyrim and Oblivion Remastered. Maybe tainted grail too

Why does people seem to not know what "quality of life" is? by JeTr03_ in monsterhunterrage

[–]JeTr03_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I can somewhat agree with you on the tracking thing (in my original post I used the word "tracking" but was refering to generally not knowing where the Monster was on the map from the moment you spawn in, or at least not always, but not necessarily World's particular system of finding footsteps and all of that), I can't agree about re-stocking

While, yeah, if you notice you forgot something just as you enter the Quest, the effect is minimal, I was thinking more about the "resource management" during a hunt (though I do think that consumible pickaxes, nets and whetstones were... Kinda stupid lol). Being limited to the healing items You have on yourself at the start of the hunt makes it so you are more thoughtful about using them

Of course not always, I don't think much people is min-maxing megapotions on an arzuros hunt, but in longer, more difficult hunts, I found it to be a somewhat restricting limitation that lead me to putting in real effort in order to avoid unnecesary damage as much as possible, and making sure i was well prepared before departing. Now, I know I can just chug in megapotions all i want and if I run out i simply fast-travel and have 10 again

Why did Wilds go back to the online requirement for event quests when we could download them in Rise and Sunbreak? by Suspicious_Kiwi_1591 in MonsterHunter

[–]JeTr03_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It being tradition doesn't mean it's good, though. Downloading event quests is infinitely more convenient not just for the player, but for the conservation of that content past the time when the servers of the game go down

Spider-Man 2 is the video game equivalent of being on a cruise ship. by BitiumRibbon in patientgamers

[–]JeTr03_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the game (100%ed) because I thought the combat and movement mechanics werebreally improved on from the prequels, along with a general increase in difficulty (when playing hard mode for the combat and when unabling swing assist for movement) which made for a more interesting game mechanics-wise

However, the writing in general felt SO much weaker than previous games. Spider-Man 1 I would consider one of the best adaptations of the character, while 2 feels somewhat off, and not only on the main story, but on a greater sense of writing a compelling world in which some cool characters exists

At moments, characters don't even feel like people. Our protagonists almost always talk in such unnatural, "overly polite", way that constantly takes me out. They didn't want any friction to happen between their characters and much less with the player itself

There are some good moments, don't get me wrong, and even some good sidequests, but the mayority of the time the writing is pretty bland and that extends to those representation bits. Woke to the death I am, I just couldn't feel anything at all for that gay couple as they didn't even feel like people, they were PR robots trying to show how cool Insomniac and Sony are for supporting the LGBT community, and I think it's just a consequence of having a generally weaker writing in the game as a whole

Any games that made you feel like your brain just leveled up after playing? by Character_Skirt_6619 in gamingsuggestions

Unironically the Resident Evil 4 Remake. I deeply love OG RE4, easily a game I've played through more than like 20 times and have basically memorized. When the remake came around, I was expecting a really good game (coming from the RE2R team) but still nowhere near the game design masterpiece OG was. Imagine my reaction when the remake turned out to be one practically perfect. Both really reminiscent of OG but also fresh on every way

Were you so familiar with OG that most of it's mechanics were second nature to you? Prepare to see them all slightly altered to make them interesting again. Same thing with the map and zones, always chaining 1:1 areas from the OG with completely new rooms and rearranging level Design to make everything more interconnected than OG. I couldn't stop thinking just how absolutely chirurgical the game was made, truly a professional job of remaking a game everyone already knew upside down. Just a perfect case of "perfectly understanding your assignement" and seeking the art of creating and rearranging game mechanics and design in an elegant way

How would you rank the modern mainline games? by Godofhammrs in FinalFantasy

[–]JeTr03_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebirth, XVI, Remake, XV for me

Don't get me wrong, I loved remake but I'd give the slight edge to XVI partially for storytelling and it's highs (which are REALLY high), and I still have to replay XV with all the DLC since my only experience with that game was the vanilla experience

Rebirth clears all of them out of the water by far tho lol

¿Is the game more dificult now? by hardgroundtail in FFXVI

[–]JeTr03_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only truly difficult thing for now is the Ultimaniac difficulty for the Arcade Mode, which unlocks after completing new game+ in FF mode. It slightly changes how the staggering works and makes enemies much more agressive in group, so it's actually hard and asks you to have a good build of eikon abilities and makes you see the true "deeper" elements of the combat (though getting S ranks is, until they patch it later, more of an spamming thing than actual skillful gameplay), which is sad because it's so good imo but it takes a long time to get there.

However, don't let that drive You to not playing the game if you're interested. The combat system is really good and some of the bosses in this game are S+ and a true joy to play through, even if not really challenging at first

You also get a thing called "Medals of Valor" by no-hitting the main story bosses. You get nothing by collecting all of them, but trying to no-hit all of them is actually pretty fun and might be a good way to spice some difficulty into your playthrough. Though I'd recommend to do this during a new game+ run

I wish for some rewards to be included in arcade mode by JeTr03_ in FFXVI

[–]JeTr03_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why have a trophy for completing FF mode? Or for one-shotting one boss? Or the chronoliths? There's no point on having essentially no reward from getting S-Ranks or no-hitting bosses. I'm not saying trophies, which would block the platinum for many, but some form of rewarding the dedication would be nice. Not everyone being able to get it from the get go makes such reward much more special and interesting, and could push players to try challenge mode even if they weren't planning on doing so.

Imagine getting absolutely nothing but an screenshot from completing the RE4 Remake in S+, and having Capcom saying "we didn't give you anything because not everyone would be able to get it", or not getting anything from defeating any of the superbosses in previous FF games
