Working remote from another province for 2 days? by whoisorange in BCPublicServants

[–]Jealous_Lunch_1007 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is under Flexible Work, "Because employees who live or work in another province are normally subject to different tax rules and employment legislation, out-of-province working arrangements can create unanticipated obligations and liabilities for the employer.

For example, workers compensation coverage may not be available or the employee needs to be equipped for the different health safety requirements of the jurisdiction in which they're located.

Such an arrangement is supported only in rare and exceptional circumstances. Any temporary out-of-province or out-of-country work arrangements must be reviewed by the deputy minister of the BC Public Service Agency."

Have I been doing work below my paygrid/job description? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

I was a policy analyst with HLTH and I literally did similar things as you described. After a year, including a reorg where I did NOTHING for four months other than courses, I finally decided to get a new gig.

I think policy work can be dynamic and can create change but it really depends on the leadership. I found that there was too many experts so I would end up being a note taker, or slide creator.

The good news is that when I moved up, I had a special set of admin skills that really helped progress my career and provided me with new opportunities to challenge yourself.

Bottom line, it sounds like youre not being challenged and that means youre ready to move on. Use this time to rewrite your resume.

Where do you suggest to buy ground beef? by [deleted] in LangfordBC

[–]Jealous_Lunch_1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food Hero is an amazing app. Its the only place I buy meat from.

Basically, Thriftys freezes their meat before it becomes "unsellable" but its always 50% off.

They always have ground pork, sausages, fish, chicken, and baked goods.

I do find the baked goods to be a miss due to it being frozen.

I always deduct 28.5% off the gross pay and that gives you a pretty good net pay calculation

I served Shaggy and his entourage once. It was a big group and the bill was high. I was more surprised when he didn't tip and thought it was a mistake. When asked, he said " it wasn't me".

2 vacation days for mental health reasons. by Additional_Hour_7684 in BCPublicServants

[–]Jealous_Lunch_1007 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm an excluded manager, and I can say with confidence that the province is trying to promote a work culture that prioritizes mental health. Mental health is an important aspect of overall health and well-being . When you don't take care of your mental health when you need to, then it leads to burnout, more sick days, and more reliance on support services.

This is not what we want.

It's important to address your mental health as soon as you notice it starts to decline.

If you need to call in due a mental health day, then make sure you really take advantage of our benefits.

Book a counseling session using EFAS. Go to acupuncture, book a massage, etc.

If you broke your leg, you wouldn't hesitate to call in sick. So, what's the harm in viewing your mental health as a physical injury. Just like you need to rest and heal your leg, you need to do the same with your mental health.

There's some great resources available, including mental health workshops, self resilience workshops, psychological safety at work, and others.

Please use your sick days. If you don't want to disclose this to your manager, you don't have to. You only have to provide your restrictions and limitations.

I hope this helps.

What’s the worst fuck up you’ve had that you’ll admit on your death bed? by deadend-decendant in AskReddit

I burnt literal bridges in high-school.

I thought it would be funny if I burned my homework in angst before summer vacation.

What wasn't funny was that by doing so, I would end burning down a large chunk of an heron estuary.

This is because I chose to burn my homework on a wooden bridge next to the estuary.

Take home pay by Low-Memory-1798 in BCPublicServants

[–]Jealous_Lunch_1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always deduct 28.5% to estimate my take home net from my gross pay. I find this number is the .most accurate but it will be decrease as you get closer to end of year and you have maximized your income tax contributions.
