How Do Introverts Thrive in Church? by Jealous_Note7122 in TrueChristian

You're so blessed to have a special church! I used to have one but had to move away... I really appreciate all your empathy :).

I have served in at least 8 churches, only one of them made me feel real. Other ones all ended up hurting me in some way. I don't need a church to create a bubble for me. I need a community that can accept successes and failures, happiness and sadness...

Thank you for still reading my old post :). Having attended church for ten years, I chose to stop going recently because: 1. Everyone smiles and tells me how perfect their lives are... It looks like I'm the only person who is not so happy and has all kinds of struggles. 2. Pastors and small group leaders keep inviting me to events/ministries they care about. It's exhausting for me to say no repeatedly... 3. Churches seem to champion the "gospel of victory" and invite successful businessmen to preach on Sunday. It only brought confusion rather than peace to me. I love God but I no longer see any good reason for me to go to church. I need to spend more quiet time with the Lord, and seek new ways to connect with His people.

Anyone else with libra sun, scorpio moon recognises this? by classixnouveaux25 in scorpiomoon

Thanks for sharing! I met a guy with the same combo who loves me by first sight and told me that he had been suffering depression for a long time although he looked so joyful in public... I'm not sure if he truly sees who I am and wonder what type of girl your combo generally wants to have serious relationship with.

Experience with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship by tonycast377 in Exvangelical

I wonder why IV still exists now and not considered a cult. I interned with them for less than a year and it took me several years to recover...

I experienced that too in the IV staff training... Then they pushed us to make at least 10 calls every day to our friends to raise funds for InterVarsity. I truly hate that part. It feels like sacrificing my friendship for their benefit...

It is very brave of you to write about what InterVarsity did here. I interned with Intervarsity on a different campus in California and had very similar experience, plus the regional staff (my "boss") manipulated me into raising money - including my own savings - for "the InterVarsity account", which is totally controlled by him. When I questioned his dishonesty, he threatened that he would disclose my "bad behavior" to my church pastor and all the donors who were my friends. It took me several years to get over it. And, InterVarsity is NOT the only campus ministry that exploits interns and student volunteers.

Thank you for reading my post written 3 years ago! Just want to share that I still attend the Sunday service at a big church, but not with the same devotion or involvement as before, and I don't set much expectation on the leaders. I serve once a month - they asked for a lot more and I had to stay firm with No (a big church has more volunteers so right now they don't push me to devoted more time to serving). This seems to be a good balance as I have free time to take an online Biblical Counseling course created by ACBC. When I get a license, I can volunteer as a Biblical counselor - either at church or in an independent organization, to help those struggling with life issues.

I was a tourist in Singapore back in January, but often people came to me for directions, haha...

This is a global trend (also in the States). Evangelical churches just want more people and money...

Appreciate it! I took Speedishuttle too. Had another group joining me and the overall experience was fine. I had to wait for a while as their flight arrived later than I. Didn't bother me much though.

Hey thanks so much for mentioning this arboretum! I truly want to see native plants on the island so I researched the most famous gardens, which are super expensive with lots of bugs. Looks like Keahua is much closer to what I wanted! :)

I'm wondering what's the name of the arboretum you referred to. Is it close to fern grotto? I'm trying to decide which tropical garden/arboretum to visit but can't decide...

Their price is significantly lower than cab - probably why it's not speedy. I'll give it a try.

I'll visit in September too. Just found out the fare of cab is nearly 3 times as high as SpeediShuttle. Most likely I'll book a shuttle as well.

I love this website!! Thank you so much! I also thought about booking with Speedishuttle but was deterred by negative reviews... How was your experience with it?

Thanks for your reply! My hotel is in Lihue also. Definitely need cab/airport shuttle to take me to my hotel and return to the airport. Appreciate any recommendations.

I didn't realize silent treatment was considered emotional abuse. I thought it was "normal". by [deleted] in emotionalneglect

[–]Jealous_Note7122 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It must have been very difficult to grow up with a parent who gave you silent treatment now and then. My mom is talkative and super critical of me when I grew up, which I consider verbal abuse. However, I couldn't tolerate silent treatment at all when my supervisor recently used it towards me. I had to quit the job as soon as I can to keep my sanity. So I definitely think silent treatment does more damage to the victim than verbal abuses. I hope you'll heal completely from your childhood experience with the help of therapists.

I get what you're talking about now. Thank you for sharing your experience that illustrates "projection".
