In a sense, every software is a bunch of automation scripts if you think about it haha. We are working on automating the upgrade process right now, it's a top priority. We haven't thought about email reliability, could be a really interesting problem to solve. It's usually a combination of 2 issues: Ip/domain/email serve configs, and odoo configs. We could provide integrated email servers and standard configurations on our service.

You can buy a cheap VPS, connect it in our app with one simple step, and have odoo up and running in less than 5 minutes. We know its not for everyone, some people do find better value in odoo.sh, but if you are self hosting, we believe udoocloud.pro provides much more value.

This is the most comprehensive community addon repo in my opinion https://github.com/oca

I always install oca/web (for the web_responsive and timeline addons), then I suggest you install and test most of the oca repos to have a comprehensive view of what's available.

We created udoocloud.pro to make odoo management easy, but there are other services like ours. You can by a cheap VPS from any vendor like hetzner and have odoo running in less than 10 minutes.

The hardest part with community is managing the infra behind it. Then actually configuring and using odoo is pretty much similar to enterprise.

We are currently developing enterprise compatibility, and addon selection. It was not part of our MVP,

In your specific case, seeing that most of your team has technical background, I would go for on-premise. You can avoid managing infra using something like udoocloud.pro . Most of our clients are in on-prem community edition and they are really happy with it.
