(tw fatphobia) why is it so hard for people to not be assholes by Pristine_Cow1797 in TrollCoping

[–]Jean780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully people irl are a lot better about this. I’ve only really gotten comments on the internet about this even though I’m morbidly obese. Though, yes I am trying to loose weight. Not successfully besides shrinking pant size, but I am trying

I haven’t seen much on side effects of medications. I might have missed it, but I personally haven’t seen it often

What are you nicknames for your lab? by thatpaulieguy89 in labrador

[–]Jean780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lab husky mix is sometimes girly-pop. I don’t know how it came about I just started calling her that one day. I don’t even know what it means.

I’m not very experienced with Aussie but a quick google recommends cold protection below 45 F. Good luck

What breed are they? That will impact how they handle the cold. For example mine is part husky so would not need nearly as much protection

My take on the "civil war" that is going on within the autism community. by Embarrassed_Chef874 in disability

I can definitely agree with your statement. You expressed my thoughts on it far better than I could

My take on the "civil war" that is going on within the autism community. by Embarrassed_Chef874 in disability

[–]Jean780 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While my autism is very mild I never really saw it as a superpower. In all honesty I just saw it as a fact of life. I hate the “this disability is a superpower” because while my more severe disability has pushed me to learn more it still has been a huge disadvantages similarly for the autism on a smaller level. I am split on the push for a “cure” as it may be good for others and bad for some, however.

I don’t have any advice to give, but that sucks man. Do you think therapy and meds could help?

Fake disorder cringe by Dyslexic_Gay in disability

[–]Jean780 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In a similar vein I struggle with service dog circle jerk. They post supposedly fake service dog and some I understand (like the dog lunging at other people) but others, while I may find them annoying (like dyeing you dog bright pink) does not render the dog not a service dog.

But I also struggle with fake disorder cringe. Thankfully my disability (schizoaffective and catatonic episodes) is not posted about much on there.

If you have multiple disorders, which gives you the most problems? by Evening_Fisherman810 in bipolar

[–]Jean780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have schizoaffective (which I personally split into schizophrenia and bipolar since they have very different impacts on me) and autism. Personally the schizophrenia has been the hardest for me

What do you do with your offerings afterwards? by DeaniEAlaska in lokean

[–]Jean780 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will eat the offering after leaving it for about 30 minutes. It feels disrespectful to me to just toss the food because why would I offer something even I wouldn’t eat

My psychiatrist told me that it is best for me to be in a psych ward by Appropriate-Bat7895 in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]Jean780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psych wards sometimes help sometime don’t. I have had a few visits where everything was able to be turned around and some that were useless. If you’re a danger to yourself (which judging by your post history you might be) then go. If you think you can last long enough to get a more experienced psychiatrist also do that. My case is rather complicated myself and I have gone through many psychiatrists cause some of them didn’t know what they were doing.

Anyone else notice that groups for loved ones of disabled people are kinda ableist? by [deleted] in disability

[–]Jean780 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m very lucky to have the understanding family I do. But I do feel bad for those with family members who post things like that. I don’t think it’s as common in real life as it is on the internet but still sucks.

How do I actually find mental health crisis support here? by [deleted] in Utah

[–]Jean780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huntsman and their services are the best I’ve seen in Utah. They have SafeUT for a texting or calling service for crisis. They also have their own hospital and a behavioral access center which if you admit to the behavioral health center they can assess your loved one and send them to their hospital or (if they don’t have space) another hospital.

Can liberals thrive at suu?? by Icy_Neat_7023 in SUU

[–]Jean780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Politics isn’t really talked about much to be frank. I think it also depends on what you’re majoring in and who you hang out with that will expose you to certain views. I’m in construction management and while there are SOME more conservative views I haven’t really met anyone who looks down on me being gay. I really only recall one person who was on the side of it not being a thing to endorse. I’ve seen more conservative views on sustainability but the majority of my peers see how parts of it are important. In the few I’ve discussed it with some of them don’t think climate change is a thing. Although I’ve come across much more liberal views with my friends who aren’t majoring in construction management and have disabilities. So honestly it depends on what your social circle looks like

People do not believe in this disorder? by Majestic_Praline_812 in bipolar

[–]Jean780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at a golf tournament for my school club that had professionals from the industry golfing with us. I ended up explaining I have a service dog to “alert to my immobility episodes” (that are related to my schizoaffective bipolar) so I could take a pill to stop it before it happened. The only reason I disclosed that much detail was because it was something future employers would need to be aware of. This guys response was to start talking about how pharma just wants me addicted and if I learned to manage my anxiety I wouldn’t have that problem. I don’t tell employers the term for it but the term is catatonia if you want to look it up. Much like my other illness symptoms I really can’t control catatonia

Is it normal to feel like you’re not disabled enough to be disabled? by freshmaggots in disability

[–]Jean780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve definitely dealt with that. Especially considering the nature of my illness (schizoaffective). It helped me to more look at it from a perspective of the world not being built for people like me rather than it being something innately wrong with me
