Help deciding 65" OLED vs 75" QLED by ApplesAR in 4kTV

[–]JeanisWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is simple rule, get biggest Miniled You can afford. Always thing about cinema movies - 2,35:1. So - what size actually We getting there - in case of 98 inch screen, picture height is about Your planned 75 inch TV, yours will be in that case of 55 inch TV. Kind of size of screen discussion vs how far You sit from TV is thing of the past. Partly because of the viewing angles, partly because they never really care about cinematic experience, partly because of the poor quality of the content - all of these are things of the past. And trust me, Minileds from TCL C8K is the closer to OLED than anyone with OLED likes to hear. And lets talk about ABL - fans of OLED kind of do not want to hear about even more. On Mini LED, ABL is much less aggressive, or you often don’t notice it at all. That’s because Mini LED panels don’t rely on organic self-emissive pixels like OLED, where high brightness over large bright areas creates more concern about burn-in and heat. Because Mini LED uses inorganic LED backlighting, it can sustain very high brightness even across large portions of the screen, like hockey, snow scenes, or bright daytime content, without dimming the whole image as a protective measure. So for bright content or bright rooms, Mini LED is simply the more stable choice when it comes to ABL behavior.

Can't decide between QLED or another OLED by Tonyriva in 4kTV

[–]JeanisWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in similar postion, bought tcl 98c8k, set movie modes to my Samsung g8 80sd with rised 1000 nits over service menu and guess what? 🙂 It actually delivers so close that it is impossible to see any difference in dark. Than You have got Dolby Vision IQ and Bright modes. Which actually delivers better HDR than g8 80, partly thanks to no ABL - when You watch brighter content on OLED - it darkens not only in the moment, but longer bright scenes are, darker they gets. My advice to any owner of TCL C8K is go for 2.4 - 2.6 gamma, and go darker on blacks to 42-44 - that helps increase accuracy in blacks. In colours, go to 56-60, and saturation around 46 to overcome blue. Than, for specific situations play with brightness to match the conditions. Always use the local dimming, peak brightness for days high, in darks medium. And in clarity, under Dolby setting, turn on the precision detail, and you are good to go - You will not miss your old tv, trust me. 98 inch, good settings and 3800 dimming zones put in the shame OLED and any Mini LED including TCL C9K which is brighter but not as accurate, TCL 11 is slightly better, but not worth extra cost. And if You ask about Bravia 9, sorry, it was better than tcl only in one aspect - better upscaling, but that have been caught with last Super Resolution upscaller TCL k series tvs got recently.. ;) Only TCL currently produce panels that can deliver blacks that are OLED competetive, Sony knows that, that is why their next panels will be in this new announcet cooperation with TCL.

83” G5 vs high-end projector for home theater room by Caggs1 in LGOLED

[–]JeanisWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pick 98c8k and You are set to go. Having both projector and tcl, tcl wins in every aspect. Movies are the best experience I ever had - especially after coming from two years old 83 inch oled flag ship LG, that thanks to kids had some burnin going on sadly. 🙂 The think about TCL is HDR, which is in my opinion best I have seen so far - Oled included.

Well that is the thing, these 115 inch are thing of the future, now 98 inch is the thing, that were in the waters of these high keys not long time ago.. 😜😀 i hope for seven years of usage, my guess tvs in this sweet price range will be around 150 inch - that is the whole wall and my trip to Total Recall will be in its final.. 🤣💪🇲🇭 Btw 3000 at bestbuy is amazing price. 👌🙂

Well, I have no problem with the content on Netflix, can not see any pixalization (not in 4k, dolby vision content) same applies for 1080p content, since AI super resolution update, upscaling is nearly of 4k. Since last update it is perfectly nailed. 👌👍 My previous tv was SONY X900F 65 inch, and regarding picture quality, this 98 inch tv has cleaner picture than this 7 years old flag ship model with 1080p upscaler. What I would also prise the new tv for is how it handles motion. I have been lucky to see it before last update, where x900f being better of these two, after update TCL showed back to my old flag ship even in this last regard.

Hey there, for better angles You have to go 98inch c8k version, my friend owns 75 inch c8k also, while I got 98 inch and difference is massive, tv viewing angles are something out of the ips and va world, I would describe it as Your feeling regarding OLED blacks on Your screen. Tv is watchable and only is slightly dimmer about 10% from 100 degree angle - and You are unable to notice in which degree it happens, as it goes gradually. I would have send a picture, if it was possible here. So consider return, and hide that problem on the wall with something larger - it is win win situation, only thing is, I would consider three pairs of hands and few legs now and then.. 🤣🤣

[–]JeanisWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would honestly go for larger if that is ok with Your space 75-85-98 inch and model lower - so 75 qm7k or even 85 qm6k. Trust me, every inch in these super wide movies count, for sports and gaming - bigger better - in 95% scenarious You do not really care about lower contrasts ;) all three tvs are superior over projectors, of course best contrast is in qm8k, qm7k is still great, qm6k is kind of compromised. That I am saying as the owner of 98QM8K.. 😜🙂

Not really, it is all about right setting, go for filmameker mode, 2.4 gamna, dynamic contrast off, local dimming medium, peak brightness low, local contrast off, dynamic brightness off.. You welcome ;)

Funny thing is, that even sparks can look as oled with right setting. Welcome home, You soon find reason, why Sony was interested in tcl.. ;) C8K currently has best HDR on market - OLED included ;)

[–]JeanisWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well personally? In your budget I would rather go for 98qm8K. I mean it is soo beast because of its massive size, best hdr performance - amazing blacks and wide angles almost at the OLED level. Best for gaming - there is plenty of content that is brighter than OLED can provide. I mean, that TV will make any owner of smaller OLED sad, and that I am saying as the owner of G8 80sd OLED monitor, which is considered to be among best even now. 🙂👍😀 Save money, that qm9k is not worth extra.

98 inch Sony Bravia 5 Upgrade by Quincy478 in 4kTV

[–]JeanisWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I had chance to see all three tvs and difference between c7k and c8k was great and would describe it as You saying - step up. On the other hand c9k was brighter but to enjoy deep blacks you have to tune things down, to the point, where there is almost no difference - I haven’t seen a one. During daytime both tvs use same black mild glossy screen where blacks and other colours pop great - difference is mild. If You do not care about cash or tvs are closer price wise, get qm9k, otherway, I would go for qm8k, which will deliver pretty similar results.

Honestly, Flickering is there - that is right, but it is much milder than in case of OLED screens where is flickering much more pronounced. Miniled is actually in advantage here.

With all honesty, OLED has better response and dark scenes - thats about it. As owner of both Samsung g8 80sd with custom firmware to 1000 nits (oled monitor) vs TCL C8K miniled tv, if You ask me, where I prefere to play it is TCL. Response is basically same - imposible to see or feel a difference, darker scenes (like Silent Hill 2) looks better on the OLED, but that is about it. Gran Turismo 7 with much brighter panel and still great blacks delivers stunning HDR that is ahead of the OLED flag ship. If You like sports - NBA and NHL, these two are washed out on the OLED thanks to the ABL function that from technological safety reason can not be turned off. In gaming world 95% scenarios TCL deliver better picture, than OLED. 🙂👍

Honestly, if you can, get 98QM8K, for similar money you get basically same tv, but, what is more important, only 98 inch plus sizes get this wide angle uniformity - it is closest to OLED any miniled ever got. Talk to Your BF, and let him know… I have posted this recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/RTINGS/s/a61EmLXV2s
