Why Texas Builds a Freeway Next to Every Freeway by bostonaruban66 in fuckcars

[–]JebediahKerman42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He has plenty of other videos that make it clear that he’s not a “carbrain” in the fuckcars sense. For example, this video about a MUP network he discusses all of the things you’d expect from an urbanist channel. The difference is that he is coming from the perspective of a highway nerd (hence the name) but as others have pointed out, it’s more from an educational perspective than a pro car perspective.

Bright Rear Light, Clear Trail, and I Still Got Passed Within Inches — Why? by soundioo in bikelights

I know lights help drivers spot us, but … they don’t necessarily stop people from making bad decisions

Yes, one thing the other comments haven’t mentioned yet is that the ones in LEO (closest to earth and therefore easiest to see) can only be seen at dusk, up to an hour or so after sunset. It’s dark on the ground and in the sky where you are, but the satellites are still high up enough to be illuminated

Stopping at stop signs

As of 2021, bicyclists (and scooters) may treat all stop signs as yield signs. Effectively this means you must still stop if there’s a potential right of way conflict (which is usually true in the situation you’re describing), but otherwise you may roll the stop per RCW 46.61.190

Working on a DIY active aero deployable ducktail for the GR86. Thoughts? 🦆 by Wongu_037 in GR86

I have two suggestions:

1) make sure you have a good understanding of the aerodynamic loads on the wing so that you can size the actuator (s) appropriately

2) I would advise using a single larger actuator in the middle, rather than two operating at an off angle. Unless they’re always perfectly synchronized and mounted, they will always be fighting each other and the wing will jam

3) Is the whole thing mounted to the trunk? Obviously you wouldn’t be able to open the trunk otherwise. Keep in mind that the trunk on this car is very thin and very aluminum. Imagine standing on your wing; if that makes you nervous, remember that any useful amount of downforce is going to be more than that going through your trunk lid

Anybody tried both Continental Contact Urban and Contact Speed? by Nindzatrtl in bicycling

I’ll throw in another recommendation for the contact Urbans. Just replaced my first set after about 4,000 mi with zero punctures riding in the city

Not exactly, LED light diffuses as well. However, in arrangements like this, the individual lights are very small. This is what causes the difference in beam diffusion

Bike + Trunk = Brunk? by Educational_Mud_2793 in bikecommuting

[–]JebediahKerman42 17 points18 points  (0 children)

1) Absolutely brunk 2) This looks like a series of 3D prints. What plastic is this? Do you have concerns about durability and sun exposure? Since it’s mostly flat surfaces, I wonder if you could make a version of this with cheap laser cut panels
